Our grandma got a huge pain relief from her lower back pain by replacing her hips earlier this year. She had some back operations previous years but they haven't helped at all. She starts a pilates session next week :)

yread··on Meta takes down a critical video about meta AI Glasses after filming at Meta
If anyone wants to see the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dHKhYL3is5o

He did harass them a bit. I'm looking forward to Meta taking down all videos where someone is a bit harassed. Internet will be a much nicer place!

yread··on Microsoft killed FoxPro in 2007. Anyway, here's FoxPro revived
I have learnt programming watching my mom code in foxpro (using el editor) in the early 90s. I would sometimes correct her missing parantheses haha. She made all UI out of box drawing characters, unbelievable amount of work compared to today.

Yeah just today it told me in a snarky way that my CPU (7940HX) doesn't exist and that I must have misread it and it's either 7945HX or 7940HS. Yes, AMD (re-)branding CPU models makes things difficult but I thought we are past AI models making such egregious mistakes
yread··on Samsung is expected to more than double output of its HBM4 and HBM4E DRAM
Yeah the 300 already felt like a splurge - it's the max. 96 was less than 200 I felt kinda stupid not just going with that. Imagine 96 of anything now for less than 200
yread··on A Necessary History of the Oddest Letter: W
Hungarian doesn't have that many letters with diacritic (only 9: á, é, í, ó, ú, ö , ü, ő and ű), they use digraphs (cs, sz,. ..) for some sounds. Maybe they meant Czech (15: á, é, í, ó, ú, ů, ý, č, š, ž, ř, ď, ť, ň, ě)? or Slovak (18: á, é, í, ó, ú, ý, ŕ, ĺ, č, š, ž, dž, ď, ť, ň, ľ, ô, ä)

yread··on If AI coding is lowering your code quality, you're not managing quality right
This is really quality as in "Quality Management System" rather than good code

> forming “public private partnerships” to tear open old wounds while screwing the working class on behalf of corporations.

Sorry what does that mean? Are all PPPs woke or something? Did US elites ever stand with workers against corporations?

yread··on I had Gemini train its own replacement for $9
I was hoping he tricked Gemini into running the training on the cluster that Gemini itself is running on. That would be novel!
yread··on Anthropic tells investors it will be profitable for second straight quarter
running an AI business with 80% gross margin if you leave out the cost of the compute is not difficult. What other COGS even are there?

yread··on Following complaints, Dyson is withdrawing its $500 toothbrush from sale
I had good luck with soldering repairs with them. The wires are super thin at the base of the brush where the wireless charging coil connects to the PCB and they often break.

yread··on Show HN: The cheapest GPU cloud – H100s at $2.04/HR, H200s at $3/HR
vast.ai has H100 at 1.93/h, H200 at 3.8/h but no 2500$ minimum. It's also possible to get a DPA with them, see where the machine is, this feels a bit comparatively dodgy

yread··on Dyson CameraJet electric toothbrush
On topic of dental innovation why isn't there a toothbrush with accelerator that would monitor which areas you've cleaned and where do you need to work more?

Or even better: a device (like dentures) that you put in your mouth, bite on it and it brushes all your teeth at once

yread··on Creepy Crawlies
We need a solid way to prove we are meatbags. How about a simple USB accessory that goes around your neck and measures your ECG. It could also give you subtle electrical shocks (in a unique pattern; a challenge) and measure how the ECG responds to that.
