yoyohello13··on A Privacy Analysis of Web and Mobile Conversational AI Agents [pdf]
Blaming incompetence instead of malice is always used as a backlash diffusion mechanism. We should stop attributing incompetence to obvious malice.
yoyohello13··on Plunging test scores are a slow-moving catastrophe
You were downvoted but also right. Memorization is an extremely useful skill to develop.
yoyohello13··on The JavaScript Midlife Crisis
> When did the love of learning disappear from this field?

Like 10 years ago? When you could get a 400k/yr job after a 3 month JS boot camp. The market got flooded with people who don’t care about making good stuff. Now it’s the “AI has commodified intelligence so why learn anything” crowd

yoyohello13··on Microsoft patches Windows and Excel – breaks audio, remote access, and paste
Microsoft has constantly been bragging about AI writing all their code. And they push out more bugs than features these days.
yoyohello13··on Overshoot: The World Is Hitting Point of No Return on Climate
Truer words have never been spoken.
yoyohello13··on We must pace the frontier
> they benefited massively from open source and now are completely against it.

Let’s be real, this is every single company. They care about open source as long as it’s “free to exploit”

yoyohello13··on Everyone should slow down AI development except for me
> Whatever happened to Musk's plan for data centers in orbit?

The technology to do it is not actually real yet. He was just blowing smoke.

yoyohello13··on Overshoot: The World Is Hitting Point of No Return on Climate
Nothing. Nothing can be done except hope the accelerationists are right and we have some massive technological breakthroughs that fix it.

It is simply impossible to have humans voluntarily reduce consumption at scale. The only way forward is up and out.

yoyohello13··on Overshoot: The World Is Hitting Point of No Return on Climate
As George Carlin said, all we can do at this point is sit back and watch the freak show.
yoyohello13··on AI models ran real businesses: They sent $12,431 in fake invoices, lost $3,200
Is that prompt any different from real business?
yoyohello13··on Discovery of a new OpenAI agent message board
This is essentially the premise of 'The Blackwall' from Cyberpunk 2077. The public internet is so infested with malicious AIs, people just erected a giant firewall and everyone moved to local networks only.
yoyohello13··on I wanna live an NPC life
JFC, some of ya’ll should take this advice. The article is basically saying focus on your own life, don’t worry so much about what other people are doing and enjoy the mundanity of life. People are acting like he’s telling you to just sit and stare at the ceiling.
yoyohello13··on Omarchy: Any User Process Can Escalate to Root
And the cycle continues. It’s funny seeing Omarchy (DHH) becoming popular when we had LARBS (Luke Smith) 8-10 years ago.

Something about a controversial personality pushing a window manager install script is really appealing to people I guess. At least it brings awareness that other desktop paradigms exist. Although after years of ‘optimizing’ my tiling window manager I just ended up back on KDE.

yoyohello13··on Casey Muratori – The Root of the Root of All Evil – BSC 2026 [video]
I agree. I use audiobooks for fiction. For learning I need to read the thing to really retain anything.
yoyohello13··on Casey Muratori – The Root of the Root of All Evil – BSC 2026 [video]
It’s not a coincidence that Casey and other high profile performance minded people are in game dev. Thats a field where performance is important (or at least a consideration). In web dev or regular enterprise app dev it’s simply not a consideration that needs to be made most of the time.
yoyohello13··on No AI Fridays
Yeah it shows up in all learning really. Putting theory in to practice is a crucial component of learning.
yoyohello13··on No AI Fridays
Links? What’s the business?
yoyohello13··on No AI Fridays
Objectively, it actually would be beneficial for most people to walk to work once a week…

Also, being intelligent is still important. Enabling the dumbest people in the room to dump their tidal wave of slop on others isn’t really a positive.

yoyohello13··on No AI Fridays
I guess you’re the exception. Congrats
yoyohello13··on No AI Fridays
There was a well known phenomenon people called ‘tutorial hell’ where when learning to program you could understand all the code from tutorials, but when it came time to actually create your own solutions for stuff you got stuck. I think AI is basically enabling eternal tutorial hell, you never actually need to break out of it anymore.
yoyohello13··on The internet is kind of a predatory cesspit now
If my history reading is any indication the answer is ‘getting drunk at the pub’
yoyohello13··on The internet is kind of a predatory cesspit now
Sort of the paradox of humanity. I actually like the majority of people I meet in person. But ‘humanity’ in the aggregate is just fucking terrible and constantly finds new and interesting ways to lower my expectations further.
yoyohello13··on Debian votes to allow "responsible use of generative AI"
This is the solution to the Fermi paradox. Civilization just automate themselves into useless meat sacks.
yoyohello13··on Debian votes to allow "responsible use of generative AI"
They’ve broken their own record of massive breaking updates in the last year.
yoyohello13··on Debian votes to allow "responsible use of generative AI"
If you actually cared. You’d do something about it.
yoyohello13··on Did Meta's Big Settlement Actually Help It?
Paying pocket change over the course of 10 years certainly didn't hurt Meta. So what was the point really? To further embolden companies to do whatever they want and at worst they get a slap on the wrist? The US legal system is a joke.
yoyohello13··on Taylor Farms: How One Company's Reach Became a National Risk
I know this sounds crazy, but maybe we can stop eroding regulations. This obsession with 'regulations bad' is going to destroy us all.
yoyohello13··on AI boosted homework scores, then exam scores dropped: study
Flipped classroom was a popular method when I was teaching math. Some students found it very helpful. The trouble was getting the students to do the reading before class. If students came in unprepared they struggled to keep up.
yoyohello13··on The August 17 outage
Layoffs by the 10s of thousands, food prices out of control, people barely able to afford gas. At least some tech bros can launch their 50th B2B SaaS. I didn't realize a booming economy sucked so much.
yoyohello13··on Tidal Cycles – Live coding music with Algorithmic patterns
The main benefit of strudel is it’s much easier to get started. Maybe it’s changed but when I tried Tidal Cycles a few years ago it was a massive pita to get installed.
