Stuff they talk about include:
- 90% male bias on Kalshi.
- Polymarket is all crypto so that probably introduces bias.
- He says 60/40 is still a coin flip.
- Prediction markets are just another sentiment tracker, that the 60/40 is still a coin flip race.
I know that a significant amount of high schoolers "go to bed" at 11pm, then scroll until they pass out at 2am. Maybe we can have a law that makes social media companies restrict their own app usage after 12am in their local time. Is someone going to argue they want themselves or their kid to have the ability to sacrifice the next day (and their growth/health) for some late night scrolling?
Or perhaps a law that forces operating systems to restrict all social media consumption after a certain period. Limiting everyone (or just minors) to only a few hours of content consuming dopamine a day. Overall happiness and GDP might just go up haha and does anyone spend 4 hours scrolling and say that was time well spent?
Experiencing life and using/growing your brain is literally the opposite of using social media. Would Einstein have overcome social media to still do everything he did? Maybe he would have used it to his advantage.
There's also the problem of group think and conformity that really is a dangerous thing with social media comments paired with a society score (upvote count). That's another discussion altogether and very interesting to think about any effects from that. I like to remind myself that in 50 years it's this generation that will be running the world.
Gambling is one of the worst addictions one can acquire (no health drawbacks) and unfortunately young men seem more predisposed to such dopamine hits. I think it is one of the more less seen issues that is growing today. At least going to a casino is a friction point and optimizing for a one click app is probably not good. Perhaps we should cut it off before yet another insanely powerful lobby that feeds on addiction grows and can't be stopped. It seems the boulder is already rolling down the hill though.
Look at what happened with Robinhood when they made trading feel like a game and removed fees. That $10 commission used to make people stop and think, even for just a second. Now, there are tons of young guys who’ve lost a lot, if not everything, but we don't hear about them. My younger brother and his high school friends are literally counting down the days until they turn 18 so they can get on Robinhood, hoping to get rich like people did with Gamestop. Maybe we could have a higher age limit like 24 or something because the real issue is the youth who are prone to sabotaging themselves.
While it might seem like a weird place to draw a protective line, but I don't know, I'm sure many people today would want protections for half the stuff you mentioned if our congress was actually functional. I'd say we have to start somewhere and online gambling is definitely a behavior that is not worth optimizing our access to. If we know people are vulnerable to this stuff psychologically, why put more potholes that people can fall into? Are we really doing this just to build another multi-billion dollar industry that leeches off regular people? Let them go to a casino when they’ve saved up a couple hundred bucks for a fun night, not blow $100 in their car during a 10-minute shift break.
Anyway just my thoughts happy to hear counters, we could just allow people to make their own decisions but can anyone make the argument that overall society has the discipline to turn easy sports betting into a net positive? Perhaps but hey we can bet on it. :)
Here's a HN post with a really good top comment that talks about psychological eye strain that really resonated with me, plenty of other advice in there too you might like: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=34518343
Good luck!
I guess the real question is how to increase voter turnout. Maybe some crazy influencer marketing campaign, where influencers do meetups right at polling stations lol.
What if we offered some monetary or tax incentive if you vote like 4% off your taxes? Or you get $100 or something. That would cost around 30B and maybe it's worth it??
Anyone tried Cloudflare before? I was thinking of trying them next it seems they sell domains at wholesale prices as it's not how they make money. Along with that vercel billing debacle that recently happened people were recommending cloudflare as an alternative for hosting as well so things could be streamlined a bit.
I'll give it a shot over the weekend but if anyone knows I'm curious!
They have a MGD Drop (red packaging) which is liquid/oily and an Intense drop (purple packaging) that is nice and thick.
You can find them rarely at retail pharmacies as they are still expanding in the US but you can order them on Amazon.
