yonibot··on Angular 2 Beta released
When people point out that Google is behind Angular, they fail to mention that the level of investment is nowhere near that of Facebook in React.

I've been loving using React. Building in components is fantastic, and it just feels like writing Javascript. That's a win in my books.

yonibot··on Re-base: A Relay inspired library for building React.js and Firebase applications
What is the appeal of Firebase? Is it only useful for people who either don't know how to write RESTful backends or want to write one very quickly?
yonibot··on Ask HN: What is your front-end stack of choice if you start a new web-app today?
I'm also using 1x, but not sure what to do for new production apps right now.

yonibot··on The school that hates rules
This article reads like an almost verbatim regurgitation of A. S. Neill's points in Summerhill, his excellent book on the school that he built and the "free school" system that he pioneered.

Neill's belief in the inherent goodness of children and the power of freedom on their development resonated strongly with me. However, Summerhill was a unique book written by an eloquent man - almost a statement of philosophy, rather than a well-researched manual. Which is fine for a pioneer. Unfortunately this article does not add anything to the subject, and is really just a reiteration of arguments made half a century ago (without even quoting the original title).

yonibot··on Ask HN: Who is hiring? (March 2015)
Would you be open to hiring remote / partly-remote developers?
yonibot··on BPA alternative disrupts normal brain-cell growth, study says
I own a Klean Kanteen, which is also stainless steel, and I really like it. But when I bought it and looked into the matter, a lot of people were talking about how stainless steel water bottles made in the far east could contain traces of other metals that may not be as safe.
yonibot··on The Science and Art of Practicing
Would love to hear more about your background - At what point in your life did you get into coding? What sort of coding work do you do?
yonibot··on Yehuda Katz and Steve Klabnik Are Joining the Rust Core Team
It's not mature enough to be a contender for Ruby/Rails or Python/Django yet, but assuming it gets there, it may offer incredible performance. Teepee (a Rust HTTP library under development) put together a page that explains the current state of affairs: http://arewewebyet.com/
yonibot··on Yehuda Katz and Steve Klabnik Are Joining the Rust Core Team
Guess who makes them cool :)
yonibot··on Yehuda Katz and Steve Klabnik Are Joining the Rust Core Team
This is reassuring - I'm happy to know that you've bet your personal business on it, and really glad that they've got you and Steve on board. Looking forward to great things from Rust, and excited to get more involved!

There's nothing illegal about the occupation per se, although it is clearly a bad situation for the local population.

As far as the current conflict is concerned, Israel is one of the more moral armies around. It is fighting against Hamas, which houses weapon stores among densely-populated civilian areas and builds tunnels under civilian areas to launch terror attacks, leaving Israel no choice but to fight among urban populations. As if that were not enough - Hamas tells its own people to ignore Israel's warnings to leave town, because they know that civilians are their best defence. As opposed to occupying, using human shields is actually a crime under international law. See http://www.icrc.org/customary-ihl/eng/docs/v1_cha_chapter32_..., for instance.

yonibot··on Deep Intellect: Inside the mind of the octopus
I took a scuba diving course with an instructor who formerly worked as a diver with a local aquarium, and he related to us that the aquarium had to replace their octopus population every few weeks because they would keep dying of boredom, so to speak. They would put the food in hard-to-open enclosures, but it just wasn't enough. Octopuses need to be challenged and engaged. It gave us food for thought about whether we should be keeping creatures with such a powerful intellect in captivity.
yonibot··on Abstaining From Alcohol Significantly Shortens Life
When articles like this come out it's important to exercise a bit of healthy scepticism and look at whether this study was funded by interested corporations. This does happen, and sometimes through non-profits that are themselves fronts for corporations. See this excellent article by George Monbiot from a while back: http://www.monbiot.com/2006/02/07/smoke-rings/
