Obviously they posed enough of a threat to human lives that a publicly traded company would distance them immediately.
Doesn't take much to figure this out. This is not some censorship or content moderation.
It appears people have trouble distinguishing between platforms that promote terrorism/violence vs free speech.
This weird extreme idealistic version of freedom of speech doesn't include harming humans or threatening peace.
Really crazy how much influence some people have.
noticed this especially when a YC company is in the submission. its funny because all they are doing is selling to the same buyers (many who are also YC companies) creating a sorta ponzi scheme where you constantly have a supply of "IPO ready" to take advnatage of the bubble which is now bursting and you have increased astroturfing
HN used to be above this. I feel increasingly that many submissions are just purely marketing hidden under a FREE sign.
enjoy the ever costly capital as rates go to the moon!
There is a lot of time wasted in learning a DSL and than wrestling with the limits of what it can do. For most infrastructure scaffolding you can get away with just CLI and anything longer should require something as natural as CDK.
I also will never use Azure or Google! Why should I waste time learning DSL and it's syntaxes when I am using the best Infrastructure as Code provided by AWS? The UI is familiar and I can always reach into CLI to quickly experiment and web console for learning what each parameter does.
Sure there is value in using Terraform but I think all it does is just another Kubernetes type of busywork. 20% gain for 80% investment. Not really a good way to spend your hours, sort of like writing tests before you write code from scratch.
We will disagree but I trust my experience than what I'm told to do exactly because I realize these standards are largely just dog whistling junior developers eager to please their managers to get them on a "free" solution that ultimately bubbles up to the C-suite with some McKinsey or Forrester branded market analysis pdf attached with setting up next steps.
Not only has big corporate interests invaded consumer interest, they've hijacked the open source movement, into just series of raising money and hoping for a large IPO payout or acquisition by other corporate whales. This is why these days avoid popular opinions/standards, especially when large number of people push for them on social media.
TLDR; HashiCorp is a good example of how to use open source offering as a trojan horse to boost the personal wealth of it's investors and founders and I am increasingly wary of "standards" or generating voluntary champions within companies to parrot and becomes salesman for a bit of glory and recognition. THIS NEEDS TO STOP. Very few end up surviving the test of time. Relational database and Java is stronger than ever. Javascript took a good decade to become recognized but it's still treated as a different class than boring technology. Boring and straight forward is resilient, novelty and complex is not.
I think your last point on salaries: This will increase salaries for those with a lot of experience but you are correct, for vast majority of digital art degrees graduating will suffer from demand plummet.
I really fear for the young Z generation, it appears the bar to entry is increasing as these AI tools automate bulk of their requirement.
It's akin to how github copilot generates a ton of boilerplate work, something that used to be delegated to junior devs.
What good can they even accomplish if they get triggered by a disney character or a specific flag?
I'm glad that the CCP will disappear in our life time. Question is, how petty will the next Han Chinese led government be? They've always sucked badly at maintaining large bureaucracy.
there's your problem right there.
edit: wow i just saw the lecture video and this seems like a tool that lets you detect/analyze radio frequencies emitted from almost any device (?) and lets you emulate the packets (?) or wave patterns to manipulate the data it sends out?
this seems like a really powerful tool. I wonder if you can open car doors with this. Also wouldn't this mean that this tool could become illegal as a result?
Up until 90s, early 2000s it was common to read Hanja in newspapers. Starting around 10 years ago they all disappeared. English words have largely replaced complicated Chinese characters and young Koreans no longer learn it.
Instead English loan words are now used so much that most Koreans can't go a few paragraph without using it. Downside it leads to confusion as to what the original Korean words meant. But for sure it is not comparable to Japanese which absolutely requires you to memorize a few thousand Chinese characters, their strokes, pronounciation and meaning.
huge nuance here. it is not fun memorizing hyroglyphics
I would say hebrew is also another interesting alphabet system
nobody is learning Finnish before Korean or Japanese.
you mean like japan? what about US where women have unfair advantages?
so your solution is for those women to marry you right?
where do you get this idea that a culture "treats women like shit"? if anything telling women to whore themselves to rich men inject drugs and kill their fetuses seem to me like that definition if we are gonna play stereotypes.
yeah I heard of the plastic theory and I think the air pollution in Korea is an overlooked factor. The fine dust particulates must have some impact on the reproduction system.
maybe even Ramen? Koreans consume a ton of instant ramen. High rate of alcohol?
I am interested to hear more about the impact of plastic. It is unavoidable and its widely used in Asia.
...what I really think is contraceptives is having an impact and that we are politically blocked from discussing it. What happened in Korea since 2010s? Huge amount of contraceptive pills were sold as society adopted a more laissez faire attitude towards sex. 10 years later those women are not trying to have babies and cannot. Is this too far fetched?
We are seeing the same issue in most western countries that correlate with high contraceptive usage. There is just less children being born but not an issue where contraception is tough.
immigration is going to happen regardless of koreans want it or not and I finally understand why the Korean governments has been pushing soft power for so long, they were planning for this scenario.
I don't think the outcome is going to be as bad as some nationalists make it out to be, for sure most immigrants are going to come from other Asian countries but I do not see it say reaching the dysfunctional state of Western Europe with mostly muslim/african migrants. This is not to say that Southeast Asians won't be pushed to the fringes and experience discrimination that puts them on the same anti-host country culture like in France for example.
first feminism in korea is toxic. they are female version of incel culture. very few things translate well to western audiences who unfortunately do not read past headlines on reddit. one example is this left/right equating to US left/right wing. this Korean feminist is also similar, it is not an counterpart to the US feminist movement. there are very few moderate feminists in the mainstream. it is of the radical variety calling for violence against men. for example, they caused controversy for instance streaming sexually assaulting underaged boys and poisoning patrons at a restaurant and uploading it in their community groups. In fact many Japanese feminists point out how toxic the feminist in Korea are, they are not about equality, they are about usurping. Most just live with their parents.
now thats out of the way, sex crimes are treated differently in korea due to the complex judicial system that is the result of multiple period of colonialism. its not as rampant as reddit has you believe but the punishment is also too lenient and should be stronger.
more women are entering the workforce and they are afraid to lose their careers. the same is true in advanced economies, women in these part of the world have far more choice and power than in third world countries. of course they are not going to give up their comforts. the redpill take you are subscribing to is NOT what Korean Koreans subscribe to. After all there is a record number of cohabiting men and women in Korea, they just simply choose not to have kids or get married anymore.
also if you think you have game in korea just because of your skin color, trust me, they know exactly why you are here and they dont care. the "white sexpat" have ruined it for rest of us here. most international marriage in korea is between neighboring countries. this is true for Japan and China as well. People who look like each other but are from different cultures.
