yogrish··on Show HN: First WebGL app. Uses NOAA data to visualize storm paths back to 1848.
Awesome app. Sorry if I am asking some basic question. I have one observation about storms here, why Equatorial regions seems to have massive storms and that too above equator but not below.

http://learningwebgl.com/blog/?page_id=1217 is a good starting point.
yogrish··on Buddhist monk's brain produces highest reported level of gamma waves
If we some how view a "3D Spectrogram of Gamma waves" of people across the globe, then it will have peaks (like Himalayas) in and around Tibet. Everywhere else, there will be Troughs/Valleys.
yogrish··on The lactose-tolerance mutation
In India, Cow is more of divine than Bovine. As author rightly mentioned "Agriculture-plus-dairying became the backbone", in Indian civilization, it has been imbibed in culture that they both go hand in hand.Their interdependence is well known Cow eats Grass/waste crops, Cow dung/urine is used as manure for the crop and mosquito repellants etc. And outputs of both are enjoyed by the farmer - Crop and Milk products :)
yogrish··on Ask HN: Where do you keep your ideas?

yogrish··on Show HN: I spent two years working on an HTML5 game. I finally released it
why most of the games emulate Mario? I am not a gamer, but for me, the first impression appears to be like mario...though the plot and creatures are different.
yogrish··on Founder Stories: The Ups and Downs of Startup Life at WeddingLovely
Great Post Tracy. Great going for your startup and ATB. Thanks for being open in talking about your current troubles and not giving a rosy picture about ur startup.
yogrish··on Indian Railways, live on Google Maps
Very nice app esp. in context of India where train timings are highly unpredictable. How are they getting real time data - GPS fitted or Indian rail opened APIs?

Good that they mentioned why it is not exact real time ..."For security and regulatory reasons, the information published on RailRadar is delayed for 5 or more minutes."

edit: Rephrased.

yogrish··on Analyzing the iPhone 5 Geekbench Results
As pointed in his previous article (http://www.anandtech.com/show/6292/iphone-5-a6-not-a15-custo...), a comparison of iphone5(or its custom core) with Krait(QC custom core) using Geekbench would have been beneficial and insightful.

Very nice collection. Few sites I never heard of. Thanks for sharing. Btw, You Mentioned Amazon and Google Ad-sense in Privacy policy. I don't see any Ads, have any plan to keep Ads on this site and make revenue?

Its just a farce, wondering how this reached front page.
yogrish··on Apple Never Invented Anything
I was under the same opinion as the author. While the Apple Vs Sammy was going many ppl said every feature iphone existed before. But, iphone has the right mix of them in right proportions and that has made it Tick. W.r.t Patenting rects with round corners etc, I too disagree with Apple. Violating Trade dress by Sammy is not acceptable either.

yogrish··on Everyday.me (YC S12) - an "Evernote for Your Life"
Nice App. I worked on this Idea for quite long time and discussed with many web developers as I am not into web development. Many suggested me to learn and develop but I couldn't. That is a different story. My perspective was different and it was not just simple Private Journal of your personal life.It meant to improve your way of life. I thought of many features which can do so. For example: Capture moment and also mark some as milestones along with its type as good/bad or traits like new learning's/adventurous etc etc. Thus at any point of time if you look back, how your time period(last year lets say) had been. you will know if it was insipid or adventurous or had any new learnings etc and where you need to improve. Pls feel free to discuss with me if you need more feature ideas.
yogrish··on Show HN: App creates a meal plan that satisfies your nutrition constraints
Very nice and useful App. Please consider options for different metrics as well like KGs and Metres/CentiMeters.
yogrish··on Samsung internal document evaluating the iPhone (translated)
IMO, Samsung has come a long way in smartphone market just because it copied or got inspired from one and only Apple. Few years back it was one among Nokia,RIM,HTC. Now, it has transformed/evolved itself Technologically and Aesthetically (see the power and design of S3)by looking at apple (i would say getting indirectly groomed by apple) and now as analyst Neil Shah puts it "Volumes have polarized around only these two brands".(http://mashable.com/2012/07/27/samsung-surpasses-iphone-ship...) So,it is time to pay back at least part of its profit share to Apple. And then, from now continue on its own innovations instead of Ctrl-C &Ctrl-V from Apple.
yogrish··on Writing graphics software gets much easier
Results are impressive with "snake image segmentation" alone but OK with other algos. http://people.csail.mit.edu/jrk/halide12/

I didn't get how algorithms expressed in this language are faster, if it is just a 'Representation'. Is it because of its efficiency in parallelization? If so, any hand tuned assembly should be on par with it. any other thoughts?

Btw, the title "Writing graphics software..." is misleading as 'Halide' addresses only Image processing on CPU/GPU but nothing to do with 3D/2D graphics software.

yogrish··on How I Data Mined the top 300 paids apps to create Tehula's icon
Good job. My thought is after Facebook came to limelight, most of the icons are made in cyan-blue. No wonder your result, as well as your icon is towards that.

yogrish··on Entreporn: Learning vs doing vs wasting time
In short: "Start every day as a PRODUCER, NOT a CONSUMER. Start your first free moments of the day with thoughts of what you really want to do" One of the Best Practices, I recently came across on Reddit/HN and I am still 'trying' hard to follow :)
yogrish··on Samsung profits surge 79% boosted by smartphone sales
I completely agree that it is a copycat, that's why I mentioned 'hook or crook'. But how many copy cats are making it to top in any sector. Some thing more is there with it technology wise or marketing wise. Would like to hear Any other thoughts.
yogrish··on Samsung profits surge 79% boosted by smartphone sales
Even though a late entrant, by hook or crook Sammy has become top seller of smart phones along with Apple. It is almost pushing Nokia,RIM and others out of market. This is definitely appreciable.
