yogini··on Ask HN: Async work Is dead?
Strongly agree!

I believe remote work and async communication increased the feedback loop and reduced focus. For you to get your PR reviewed/merged or simply unblock some other person, will require more time than working together.

yogini··on [dead]
Downvotes can be a strong signal for a user posting /sharing some content on the feed that this is not a right content for a platform. Just like the way moderations happen on Hacker News, on Reddit or on stackoverflow.

What are your opinion on enabling downvotes?

yogini··on Show HN: Peerlist raised 1.1M to build credible alternative to LinkedIn
Some thoughts on this

(1) - We are discovering more ways to verify past experiences. We think capturing relieving letter is one of the ideas here, but we are open to suggestions.

(2) We absolutely agree with this impression. The core principle of Peerlist is to help build Proof of work. We wanted to start with specific user personas during beta and then cater for others. We started with published content (including public GitHub repos) as it was easier to build with public APIs. We are planning to add more ways to fetch private (non-IP) metadata about the contributions on Peerlist in secure way to help a wider range of users.

yogini··on Ask HN: Should I build a web or a mobile app for my MVP?
Web app!

I have 3 hypothesis for this

1. When the business/idea is new, a lot of time goes into brainstorming and connecting dots. Hence creating a web app becomes easier and iterations becomes smoother.

2. If the idea is new, it takes time for people to get convinced and download your mobile app. With web app first approach, you can start acquiring users and then build an app later.

3. The resources requires to build an app, get it approved and launch it on app store are pretty expensive effort-wise as compared to web app.

yogini··on What I learned in 10 years, as an entrepreneur
Have started my entrepreneurial journey a year and half back and I can relate to some points. Some points are definitely learnings that I am going to keep with me. Thank you for sharing this. More power to you.
yogini··on Any way to change existing font in a pdf?
There are certain tools available online like Adobe Acrobat or PDF2Go.
yogini··on Ask HN: What are your goals for 2023?
1. Start reading (Atleast 12 books in a year) 2. Start writing technical article (1 article a week) 3. Better work-life balance
yogini··on Ask HN: Reason for Twitter Threads from “Influencers” Explaining Basic Things?
I have been very actively using Twitter for around 18 months and I have two observations on this 1. When someone is beginner and they see such threads, they engage with it (either like, retweet or bookmark) so that they will save the resources for later use. 2. They engage (quote retweet or comment) on such threads to get engagement in return. The "influencer" in this context will reply/engage back with them giving them more attentions.

This becomes useful in both ways and also this is considered as a perfect way to gain followers. May be thats why :D

yogini··on Ask HN: Experienced engineers, are you passively open to new opportunities?
I think Yes. I know many engineers who are passively open to opportunities.

This is because most of them are happy at their work but if someone with better opportunity or opportunity aligning with their career path reaches out to them, they consider it.

We have hired a senior engineer by this strategy only and it works.

yogini··on Ask HN: How is your company training you to become a better developer/engineer?
I have been a part of training sessions in my previous organisations, but in my opinion, training will not create a 10x engineers.

Why?

Most of the training sessions I attended or used to happen in my organisation were on very general topics. All these topics can be easily learnt via any other medium like youtube.

Instead, I have seen pair programming or code-reviews making better engineers. The organisation used to change the pair programming partners every sprint making us understand new ways of working every time. Plus reading other's code in code reviews exposes you to new patterns making you better at writing code.

yogini··on Ask HN: How to raise a seed round in a down market?
What I have been reading these days a lot, raising money is highly dependent on the type of product you are building.

I think its good to approach some angels and raise pre-seed.

yogini··on Ask HN: What are the best short tech/engineering books you have read?
Release It!: Design and deploy production-ready software, a book by Michael T. Nygard

This book is around 380 pages, but an amazing read for everyone working on creating softwares.

yogini··on I Don't Like Medium
Medium used to be one of my go-to platforms for reading and writing (This is back in 2018). The clean look of reading articles, and the amazing content made me sold that time and I was also a monthly subscriber because it was adding immense value to me.

But, things changed drastically when Medium started promoting its paywall like never before. Most of the good content went behind the paywall and it pissed off so many writers as well who did not want to write under it.

Recently read about Medium changing their recommendation engine and it is really good. But because there are so many other good platforms evolving, it will be hard for so many people like us to go back to Medium. Substack is really good, but I always find it difficult to discover good content on Substack.

yogini··on Ask HN: How to Design a Website?
I am a developer and I used to struggle a lot creating a good looking websites. What helped me pretty well is using platforms like Dribbble to take inspirations.

On Dribbble you can search for the specific kind of UI that you want to built, for e.g. Admin Dashboard, Login Page, Splash Screen etc and you will start seeing so many good designs in front you.

Once you have that set, you can shortlist 3-4 designs and take inspirations from them. You should also mention the designer in the project rom whom you took inspiration. I mostly used to do this for my side projects.

May not be a very good way to do things, but atleast it will help you get started.

yogini··on Lessons learned from interviewing 100 founders about fundraising

yogini··on Lofi.co – Relax and Focus
This is amazing! Thanks for sharing
yogini··on Taking a break from social media makes you happier and less anxious
It's a great article!

What I think is, it's the comparison and less focus span, that leads us anxious. Though social media has a role to play in this. We also have to accept the fact that it has become a part of our lives, so understanding the core of problems we face would work in long run.

yogini··on Bad Times Are Coming for Startups

yogini··on Show HN: Story of Creating a LinkedIn Alternative
We have a blog that talks about the tech stack, you can check it here https://blog.peerlist.io/everything-about-our-migration-from...
yogini··on Should We Celebrate Acquisitions?
I think, even though the company gets acquired, the service to the customers never really ends. I take it more like a retirement, you proudly build something, you are happy about it, now you want to either slow down with your work, take a break or move on.

I might be wrong in understanding this, but I think if they made it to the point where other companies could consider acquiring them, it should get celebrated :)

yogini··on Ask HN: What is the best language/framework for getting things done on the web?
Recently moved my app from ReactJS to NextJS to support SSR. The community support and the amount of resources it has is incredible.
