yissp··on Drawing Text Isn't Simple: Benchmarking Console vs. Graphical Rendering
That's what I assume based on how they describe the benchmark. But personally I would be more interested in input latency.
yissp··on Emacs 29.1
You still need to set up an LSP server, so not exactly out-of-the-box. Something like clangd or ccls for C/C++.
yissp··on The Pacific Northwest Tree Octopus
This is great, reminds me of a classic from my childhood, the house hippo https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=TijcoS8qHIE

yissp··on Valve's latest Steam Deck trailer briefly plugs a Nintendo Switch emulator
Portal was released on the Switch, so presumably they do have some sort of relationship.
yissp··on The $300B Google-Meta advertising duopoly is under attack
Newspapers, magazines, cable TV, product placement in films, ... even if you're paying you can definitely still be the product.
yissp··on Jack Dorsey says his biggest regret is Twitter became a company
Not Apple per se, but NeXT was pretty important in the development of the early web as I understand it. The first web browser / editor (WorldWideWeb) ran on their platform.
yissp··on LibVF.IO: Add support for GPU Virtual Machine (GVM)
Is this similar to the virglrenderer project? https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/virgl/virglrenderer
yissp··on Nvidia publishes 73k lines of 3D header files for Fermi through Ampere GPUs
They did add GBM support, for what it's worth https://www.phoronix.com/news/NVIDIA-495.29.05-Linux
yissp··on The History of ‘Ampersand’ (2020)
I've made the mistake of trying to add an extra statement to a one-line if and forgetting to add a block too many times. Although now GCC has -Wmisleading-indentation which should catch that.
yissp··on Vala Programming Language
They could have used a comma for floats, as is common in many non-English-speaking countries. Although I guess that might become ambiguous with its use as a parameter separator.
yissp··on Show HN: Find out where your supplements are made & sourced
It's still not really clear to me what the difference is between the two. The wikipedia page seems to use the terms interchangeably. What does it mean if a brand is listed as "GMP" but not "cGMP" or vice-versa?
yissp··on Why do people not notice our enormous, prominent, clear and contrasting banner?
I was totally expecting it to be a quote from a Gibson novel or something.
yissp··on World’s Highest Website
> There's Muana Kea, which is the _tallest_, meaning the furthest distance from the mountain's base to its peak.

I had thought Denali in Alaska held this honor, but apparently the base of Mauna Kea is considered to be the ocean floor which makes it taller. Interesting.

yissp··on Viddy: A modern watch command. Time machine and pager etc.
It's a reference to the film A Clockwork Orange (also where the name "viddy" comes from). https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:LudovicoMalcolmMcDow...
yissp··on Mundane chores are all the rage in gaming
Tetris?
yissp··on The Coming Food Catastrophe
I would think feeding corn to a human is more energy-efficient than turning it into biofuel and burning that in an engine, although now I'm curious exactly how the two compare.
yissp··on Mainboard Terminal – A Retro-Style Computer with a Modern Core
I'm excited to see more cool projects like this based on the Framework mainboard.
yissp··on Ask HN: Why is Google Premium not a thing?
You can replace the default web view, although I believe it requires root access. I've been using https://www.bromite.org/system_web_view for a while and it works pretty well.
yissp··on Ask HN: Why is Google Premium not a thing?
I'm pretty sure it does. I don't see any adds in Google search with uBlock Origin installed.
yissp··on Long-Chain Omega-3 Fatty Acids Improve Brain Function, Structure in Older Adults (2014)
There are also algae-based EPA / DHA supplements.
yissp··on Mercedes-Benz says Level 3 self-driving option ready to roll
The "Pinto Memo" [1] being a notable example. Although, as the article says, the cost / benefit analysis was against "societal costs" of the safety issues, not just the cost of litigation.

yissp··on Historic fertilizer crunch threatens food security
Hardly anyone is making compact pickups anymore. Even models that used to be in that class (e.g. Tacoma, Ranger) seem to have gotten a lot bigger over the past 10 years. I find it disappointing, I always thought they were a great compromise between fuel efficiency while still retaining most of the utility of a regular truck.

yissp··on South Africa is running out of Marmite
They both have a similar savory / umami flavor, but Marmite is much, much more intense and also quite salty unlike nutritional yeast.
yissp··on How can I get my boyfriend to stop digging his tunnel?
As I'm sure any Minecraft player has experienced.
yissp··on Samsung's latest Galaxy A53 is 33% slower than the previous Galaxy A52s
If you access the website from a mobile browser it will nag you at every opportunity to switch to the app. It's quite annoying, so I wouldn't be surprised if most people give up.
yissp··on GNU ed ate my homework
Technically I think vi was an interface for ex, Joy's ex-tended version of ed.
