yieldcrv··on Meta Uses A.I. Data Centers to Avoid Billions in Federal Taxes
yeah, and accountants incur some liability by signing off on tax filings

it moves liability off of the tax filer onto them and one can also add another layer with the tax lawyer

but the liability does exist, so they have to weigh their compensation with the weight of the government

okay

yieldcrv··on StreetComplete on iOS is now in public beta

weird choice, from 2023, to code an iOS app. but it doesn't matter today in 2026. frontier models can manage weird software stacks

yieldcrv··on Meta Uses A.I. Data Centers to Avoid Billions in Federal Taxes
To satisfy the experiments vs operations criteria, all they have to do is deploy a software update to the inference library for slightly higher tokens per second, and compare, you know, in an experiment

This is something we all do

pitchforks down, its the reporter and the non technical accountants that are wrong and both groups should be replaced

yieldcrv··on Meta Uses A.I. Data Centers to Avoid Billions in Federal Taxes
I disagree, this is an article about Meta’s finance department being full of risk averse accountants and that being used as validation, when they shouldn't be

The IRS does enforce this credit

Moving beyond that, its super easy to rationalize how these are used for experiments

People post framework after framework every day here that eeks more performance out of the same inference hardware

That will satisfy the experiments over operations need easily

The IRS isn’t the authority when they disagree, the courts are. And in court you can tell the IRS to pound sand and tell reporters to take it up with Congress

Thats my observation when people retort “whataboutism” in usually a geopolitical context

Its not ever clear to me that people are aware that their own country or a place they respect engages in the same practice as the place they are denigrating

Like, sure I would like both places to fix their problem but dont you have better things to do like fix your own?

the current AAA studios will keep that going. they just wont be the future AAA studios

the market doesn’t want 15 year lead times and overly expensive and delayed games that don't experiment on anything

every friction plaguing the industry is solved by distributed indie developers being able to make richer experiences faster and cheaper

yieldcrv··on Unknown number of Texas voter registrations went unprocessed due to DPS error
did I miss anything?

so consensus is, no. you just didn’t like the way I wrote it

yieldcrv··on Unknown number of Texas voter registrations went unprocessed due to DPS error
I didn’t discount that at all

> it is accurate that any voter registration tweak has been used to decline legal voters ability to vote

yieldcrv··on Unknown number of Texas voter registrations went unprocessed due to DPS error
one party says its rampant and cant prove it, they think the other party relies on non-citizens voting

the other party says its not rampant per say and resists all capability to prove it, because they think the solutions to proving legal voter status would be difficult for their citizen voters to accomplish

amusingly, the limited audits done always find improper votes for the first party, although nothing rampant

ironically, Commonwealth and European countries all have the voter status proving requirement that the first party is asking for, despite this being seen as an extremist right wing idea to be distanced from

in the US, it is accurate that any voter registration tweak has been used to decline legal voters ability to vote so the left - despite being more congruent ideals with the rest of the developed world - does have unique considerations and skepticism

did I miss anything?

I can play devil’s advocate too

but let’s not pretend solo developers were ever going to have a voice actor suite and hire that talent en masse

the transactions were never going to happen

and now the outcome will be better than the studios that are making those transactions

yieldcrv··on Meta takes down a critical video about meta AI Glasses after filming at Meta
agreed

I just can’t find the user experience different enough for me to feel like my western friends have any point to make about China

the west has a thin partyless corporate layer controlling all facets of life and your ability to participate in life compared to the government doing it directly

but its okay because if you don’t care about any of that you can talk about it (in person only because nobody will hear it for long elsewhere) and you won’t be disappeared? *unless your citizenship status is questioned

amusing cope

yieldcrv··on Gemini 3.8 text-to-speech
uninspired

so one of my interests is reducing the payload size for video games

the vast majority of the image sizes have been audio recordings, and its been that way in different qualities for the last two decades. this is still the case as more varied and comprehensive audio is pursued by studios at unfathomable expense and still failing to cross a bar of realism

good voice models are just a few gigabytes in comparison and can supplant all of that, and be run locally at this point. Future ubiquitous hardware configurations in consumer devices will make inference dedicated and computationally cheaper and faster

although AAA studios are hamstrung and will be deeply unpopular if they stopped booking voice actors

everyone else who would have never had the capital for voice actors will just use this and have richer experiences until they themselves are AAA studios from the market buying their rich experiences

this will vastly supplant the assumed and uninspired “tricking humans” use case from that video. once it crosses a threshold of ease, the applications will expand

yieldcrv··on Montreal adopts bylaw banning insults against police, municipal employees
now thats news to me, I need to look into that

edit: after looking into it, this seems embellished and laymen level of legal understanding that I see everywhere. I wanted to believe though! There seems to be no functional difference for Quebec as a province in Canada compared to others, despite some nuance.

I saw it alot in the fake KYC world, phantom commodities trades

and all those things listed wouldn’t be prosecuted, as long as you don’t touch mortgages

I would say KYC in general is a joke and nobody cares, as long as FinCEN and the DOJ believe KYC is working. But as far as the peddling of forged PDF’s go, very common, just not at the point of where the more damaging crime occurs ….. except in mortgage fraud, where that crime explicitly considers the fake employment letter to be the crime

yieldcrv··on AI coding has made CI a bottleneck, so we reworked ours to keep up
> Despite our test suites almost quadrupling since the start of the year

I think the SDLC needs to be re-evaluated, tests, specifically unit tests, are just cosmetics. "wow its so easy to get high coverage now!" as opposed to why we're doing it in the first place

I don't find agents to be using tests any differently than a junior or mid level developer. I don't find humans to be using tests any differently than a junior or mid level developer either.

Basically, the tests are never guiding the features, they aren't highlighting regressions, the test is simply modified for the updated application. Unit tests especially.

I have found end to end tests to be useful, and also unblocked. They can tell when the actual user experience has changed, and go back to the feature's implementation to stop altering the user experience in unexpected ways.

additionally, I find this across every industry that was worried about AI. basically, whatever best practice was neglected due to lack of investment into your org is now being done without additional investment into your org. that's a good thing. now we need to look at the purpose of the best practice, and if that purpose itself was already solved in the process.

Mandarin is high on my list, but its almost all for business and the people wouldn't be interested in me (different melanin). Whereas socially our Ukrainian and Russian refugees are way more interested in me, and there's potentially some business anyway.

More business in China though, tricky to prioritize since I'm doing any of this for the abundance of intimacy and the slavic people come with that, for me. I need to learn Mandarin and Russian.

at least Cantonese is no longer seriously a contender in my sphere. That was distracting
