yeknoda··on AI Determines Sex of Person from Brain Scans
There’s some linear and obvious differences like the brain volume. Don’t need ai for that lol. I think I remember that it’s a 20% average difference. Downvote me please
yeknoda··on Jeff Dean: Trends in Machine Learning [video]
Didn't watch it. Also hate it.
yeknoda··on What's the fun in writing on the internet anymore?
We've lost the plot, the point of it all, in the blind pursuit of transhumanism. The current seismic shifts are merely the most noticeable reverberations of the long march of technics and the fall of religiosity.
yeknoda··on Russia Using Musk's Starlink Systems in War, Ukrainian General Says
They also use iPhones, windows, PCs, etc.
yeknoda··on Sam Altman Wants $7T
7T spend would include power sources for the data centers and chip factories, and he is probably advocating big nuclear/solar builds.
yeknoda··on Handwriting but not typewriting leads to widespread brain connectivity
Guess that makes me a dumbass.
yeknoda··on Taggers have sprayed graffiti on 27 stories of a downtown Los Angeles skyscraper
Death penalty.
yeknoda··on Self-driving as a case study for AGI
This is often said, but isn’t labor force participation at the lowest level ever? And aren’t a good fraction of jobs so called bull shit jobs that could be eliminated with often a positive net result, particularly gov etc.
yeknoda··on Amazon plans to charge for Alexa in June–unless internal conflict delays revamp
They are considering charging because Alexa is about to get a massive update with agent capabilities. If you are paying 20/month for gpt4, you are probably willing to pay much more for amazons equivalent but that can actually do things for you like get groceries, get things delivered, one command purchase, etc. maybe even buy plane lowest cost plane tickets or make reservations.
yeknoda··on What it will take to unleash the potential of geothermal power? (2021)
it's comparable to human energy consumption

yeknoda··on Microsoft is looking at next-generation nuclear reactors
Zero capital deployed
yeknoda··on What drives this madness on small modular nuclear reactors?
Space launch costs? Lol
yeknoda··on Ukraine aid's best-kept secret: Most of the money stays in the USA
500,000 Ukrainian casualties
yeknoda··on What drives this madness on small modular nuclear reactors?
You are doing the same thing I think, projecting past nuclear costs into the future, and assuming past cost reductions for solar and wind.

In any case, you are not correct about the timelines for renewable and storage. The average time to get an approved grid interconnect is 4 years. And all these power projects can take 5-8 years to deliver.

yeknoda··on What drives this madness on small modular nuclear reactors?
The fact it is historically not encouraging is exactly why it should be encouraging for the future.
yeknoda··on Blender 16yo winner of UK young animator of the year
The robots eat?
yeknoda··on Apple agrees to $25M settlement with US over hiring of immigrants

yeknoda··on Valar Atomics: Pulling oil and gas out of thin air with nuclear fission
Yawn. Another nuclear fission startup, seems to be a new one every week.
yeknoda··on Light can make water evaporate without heat
Of note, Gang Chen was recently slandered and unjustly prosecuted by the US gov for china research collaborations. Good to see he is getting back on his feet.
yeknoda··on Nucor and Helion to Develop 500 MW Fusion Power Plant by 2030
Altman strikes again
yeknoda··on Surfactants safely take down mosquitoes without using insecticides
Would not recommend adding anything to water streams. Water with surfactants could cause more permanently contaminated water. Water is remarkably clean despite all the pollutants and garbage and dirt out there because particulates and contaminants deposit and fall out of solution relatively quickly. Surfactants could slow that down.
yeknoda··on Anti-ageing protein injection boosts monkeys’ memories
Immortal is not eternal
yeknoda··on China’s first domestically made passenger plane completes maiden flight
Lol. What are they supposed to do? Invent a completely new technology for a solved problem? The anti china sentiment is basically closeted racism at this point. Ever thought that maybe engineering design is somewhat deterministic? There’s not that many ways to design things… physical laws, manufacturing technique, and material properties are highly constraining and basically force a limited set of designs to accomplish the task at hand.
yeknoda··on China overtakes United States on contribution to research in Nature Index
whatever you need to cope
yeknoda··on The market is mostly being flooded with web developers
Also lots of online DIY tutorials, so many frameworks, etc. The learning got too easy, the tools got too good. For the best really. Was getting to a point where the flourish mattered more than the content.
yeknoda··on Previously unknown isotope of uranium discovered
More like can exist for an observable amount of time. Can smash particles together, and for a tiny moment you can have an arbitrary isotope.
yeknoda··on The average American has the same life expectancy as the worst part of England
Race/age correction please...
yeknoda··on Bicycle
yay
yeknoda··on South Korea has the lowest fertility rate, which has lessons for us all
For now. Over time, low fertility families will die, their genetic and cultural material will disappear, and the remaining human population will be dominated by high fertility families. There are extremely strong feedback mechanisms that play out pretty quick. Survivors survive!
