ycombonator··on HN shadow banning certain news links?
The link is not flagged, it was automatically hidden. Why show it when I am logged in vs show something else for user who is not logged in ? Isn’t that “shadow banning links” ?

ycombonator··on Marriott says 5.2M guests exposed in new data breach
Marriot is an outsourced shop (TCS, Cognizant et. al). They are an empty shell run by “managers”.

NEVER LET A CRISIS GO TO WASTE. This is similar to the ads Grubhub ran recently that looked like UNICEF campaigns. Clever marketing.

ycombonator··on Mass layoffs reported after Starsky Robotics fails to find buyer, investors
Just checked out the demos on their website. I have always been curious what graphics they use to represent what car sees. Are there any open source versions of these out there to explore ?
ycombonator··on Ask HN: I'm away from the software industry since 2017; what has happened since?
In my humble opinion, frameworks and mostly hotshot languages are akin to celebrities. If I asked hey I was away for 10 years spending time in remote island and just came back to LA what changed ? Nothing changes in the main business. We’ve got few celebs come and go Toby Maguire, Lin-Manuel Miranda aka React. They still need to bring back Ahnold for Terminator (looking at you C) or Tom Cruise for MI (looking at you C++). The industry is the same, you need inputs film money and people to generate outputs that people enjoy.
ycombonator··on There could be meteors hitting the atmosphere close to the speed of light
Physicists out there, Shouldn’t the mass of these objects increase as they are traveling at that speed according to Einstein. Also does the increase in mass means size of just mass within the same size ?

ycombonator··on Show HN: FounderPhone – make customer support personal with SMS
I still don’t understand the value in this. How is this different from Apple Facebook Zendesk et al. contact platforms which provide certain level of anonymity to the customer ? Also is this a matter of simple Twilio to Slack hook integration ?
ycombonator··on Twitter locks WikiLeaks account days before Assange's extradition hearing

ycombonator··on IRS scams:A taxi driver saved an elderly woman from being scammed out of $25,000
IRS scams mostly originate from India, I get one a day from “John Huntington” with a thick Indian accent from IRS enforcement desk. I can see how old ladies can get scammed easily. The government can shut it down now, all it needs is a legislation to require VOIP to POTS terminators to require the billing address and ownership information of each phone number they terminate. Game over.

ycombonator··on Chrome 80 Is 30% Slower Than Chrome 75
CVS is an outsourced shop, stripped to the bone. All their IT jobs have left Rhode Island over the years to be replaced by “managed services”. It’s highly unlikely they will read your feedback.
ycombonator··on Your New Medical Credit Score Could Deny You Care
Maybe congress should actually focus on privacy legislations than being obsessed with orange man.
ycombonator··on U.S. immigration policy has been a boon for the tech industry in Canada
They will all eventually will migrate to US once the policies are relaxed. This is a typical path for immigrants who can’t get into US directly: Rest of the world -> Canada -> acquire TN Visa -> migrate to US
ycombonator··on Apple’s New Map, Expansion #7: Final Parts of the Continental U.S.
Apple Maps is no where near google maps. It took me to someone’s driveway as “an entrance to” an elementary school, when in reality the school was behind their backyard with no direct access. They haven’t fixed one thing I painstakingly reported over the years. I wanted Apple Maps to succeed but from what I gather they are too disorganized to compete with Google Maps.

ycombonator··on U.S. files lawsuits over robocall scams
Would passing a legislation which requires these gateway carriers to verify the billing addresses of their customers through their banks(IRS scammers) force these companies to filter out most of them ?
