ycombinatornews··on Ask HN: What Are You Working On? (July 2026)
Love this! Waterline still seemed cryptic but the scramble was a fun read. I am not following neither of these niches so just a passerby opinion!
ycombinatornews··on Ask HN: Who wants to be hired? (May 2026)
Linkedin link seems to be broken? Might be bc of the · character
ycombinatornews··on Vera: a programming language designed for machines to write
Same here, reminds of JIRA’s field_17190 in MCP responses instead of description (and in similar excel-like systems)

Good luck managing hallucinations on that context

ycombinatornews··on Qwen3.6-27B: Flagship-Level Coding in a 27B Dense Model
Curious how do you run opencode and qwen locally? Few times I tried it responds back with some nonsense. Chat, say, through ollama works well.
ycombinatornews··on Show HN: Ctx – a /resume that works across Claude Code and Codex
Great callout about the prompt caching, this switch is going to burn subscription limits on Claude real real fast.

Unless the goal is to move from one provider to another and preserve all context 1:1. And I can’t seem to find a decent reason why you would want everything and not the TLDR + resulting work.

ycombinatornews··on Emails to Outlook.com rejected due to a fault or overzealous blocking rules
Very happy I decided to ditch outlook (and did it) this year after 10+ years. Every other year some part of the system would break, deliverability, authentication or 2FA. More ads, less value.

Eh. Another product driven into ground by Microslop

Hilarious

ycombinatornews··on Ask HN: What are you working on? (February 2026)
Learning the autonomous coding, there are so many different skills, tools and ways and only some of them seem to work.

That means I have to: - build something so I can evaluate the results. - track each of these projects separately otherwise they turn into dust after quite some time. Gladly claudesidian seems to be working well with the unstructured stream of inputs. Feel like hooking it up with some task tracker cli and calendar and notifications could make life a bit better too. - plan next projects to keep evaluating other skills and tools

It’s been discussed so many times the amount of new or personalized software that appears and will appear and it seems so true.

Whatever I built I am actively using myself - a text rewriter that cleans some of the AI speak and has MCP and cli (at https://www.refineo.app). Math teaching and solving extension at https://math.photos and a self hosted stock opportunity discovery tool that runs locally. This is just to automate what I did before manually and scale it up a bit.

> Any new ideas

There’s no product yet to cover the needs of all of us launching the software into the internet void. Any ad platform out there is a hot and very outdated mess and I just can’t. There is going to be a better way with all the capabilities we have and someone is going to really nail it.

ycombinatornews··on Ask HN: What are you working on? (February 2026)
Awesome! Love the location based discovery. Unfortunately sign up ended up with 500 error!
ycombinatornews··on Tell HN: Merry Christmas
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays everyone!

Thank you HN and HN community for sharing the most interesting places of internet, ideas, discussions and points of views. Learned a lot and hope to learn more.

ycombinatornews··on Tell HN: Azure outage
So that’s why CapitalOne is out today. Even though their (incorrect) status page says all systems operational.
ycombinatornews··on People regret buying Amazon smart displays after being bombarded with ads
Thank you and agree! I am waiting for a good moment to get rid of that ad display listening device. Life gets its way!
ycombinatornews··on People regret buying Amazon smart displays after being bombarded with ads
Same with any Amazon device. I wish there was a way to recycle Alexa so it’s not just a e-garbage… after all my personal data and insights were mined
ycombinatornews··on T-Mobile claimed selling location data without consent is legal–judges disagree
This! I did a long drive last week and was surprised that spam calls knew exactly the area code I was in. Realtime …

Chilling realization

ycombinatornews··on How Anthropic teams use Claude Code
Using slash commands that describe engineering/task workflow (steps) and /clear once it’s done solves this.
ycombinatornews··on Measuring the impact of AI on experienced open-source developer productivity
Thank you for the last paragraph.

Same thought came when I was reading the article and glad I am not alone.

Anecdotally, most common productivity boost is coming from cutting down weird slow steps in processes. Write an automation script, campaign previewer for marketing, etc etc.

Coding seems to transform to be a more efficient (again anecdotally) but not entirely faster. You can do a better work on a new feature in the same or slightly smaller time.

Idle time at 4% was interesting. I think this number goes higher the more you use a specific tool and adjust your workflow to that

Offtopic - what kind of unicorns now hire fully remote people with that experience?
ycombinatornews··on Ask HN: Conversational AI to Learn a Language
I’m building https://instantlyfluent.com, a small project to help people and myself practice languages before travel. It works through voice or text chats with AI.

I tried Gliglish but didn’t like how it was structured. So I started turning my own “learn a language before a trip” routine into something easier to use.

Dutch is not supported yet, and there are still some rough edges. But the idea is simple: help people remember words by using them. You say or type something, and get a reply you can hear or read.

In conversations on IF, there is no fixed path. You can start with a topic, then ask to switch to something else. It’s meant to be low-pressure and flexible.

Still figuring things out. Happy to share more or hear from others working on similar tools.

Almost finished with it after few days. I think it is must read and the fact author testified adds more reasons.

Glad to see this on HN.

ycombinatornews··on Mark Zuckerberg Says Social Media Is Over
Maybe should have not done 2016 Facebook elections?

Ads all the way, almost no posts from my network, and bunch of unmoderated, Onlyfans promoting reels. Thanks.

ycombinatornews··on The Wright brothers invented the airplane, right? Not if you're in Brazil
Or to expand this a bit more - they learned and documented how to have controlled flight. They were the first ones to have flights measured in hours. Big difference from just a one off flight.

(there is a great book about this https://share.libbyapp.com/title/1815407 )

Agree on the DIY too! Added a _fresh_ trailer before a movie and it makes the experience close to cinema
ycombinatornews··on Show HN: Transform your codebase into a single Markdown doc for feeding into AI
You can ask Cursor to use information from specific folder (aka your 4M lines) and it would summarize it and use that.

Not a replacement for full 4M lines but it might work for some tasks/prompts

ycombinatornews··on Show HN: Transform Your Codebase into a Single Markdown Doc for Feeding into AI
My question exactly. Repomix seems to be tested util for something like that.
ycombinatornews··on Resigning as Asahi Linux project lead
OT, Have you had any issues with WiFi setup with this Mac Mini? I tried multiple distributions and most of them have troubles with detecting WiFi chip on 2014 mini.
ycombinatornews··on Ask HN: What Are You Working On? (October 2024)
I love pastmaps! Nice to see you on HN!
ycombinatornews··on Techniques used by developers to bypass App Store review
There are many more ways to do this. Most of iOS developers who ever published apps know that.

Hiding a functionality from Apple is a ticket to account and company ban and is not worth the hassle. Unless it was the intention of the whole enterprise.
