yawaworht1978··on You block ads in your browser, why not in your city?
Do you believe he doesn't have some sort of affiliate manager or pr department managing media and social media presence?
yawaworht1978··on You block ads in your browser, why not in your city?
I agree, she/he/them are champagne socialists.

And his quote in the top post is hypocritical, at least the advertisers pay for displaying the ads, banksy appears to use the anarchist non payment approach.

Maybe all his revenue goes to charity but I sense an artist complaining about capitalism while laughing to the bank.

yawaworht1978··on The cost of cloud
Indeed there is an odd element to that, as when it's all said and done, AWS itself is an on-prem infrastructure too.
yawaworht1978··on JavaScript for Impatient Programmers
How much time would you say is fast enough to build a full front end and back end login/authentication system in nodeJS with any db ? I mean including throttling, pwd reset, forgot email/pwd, 2fa, confirmation email etc? Most of the tutorials are notoriously outdated and won't work bc dependencies, but I have build one such app.

For someone who knows the J's basics , I mean

yawaworht1978··on Steam has been banned in China
Maybe they don't want a dull population sitting many hours playing games and eat junk food.

Or they want the population to use some domestic platform, I am not sure, but even the Google ban has some legitimacy perhaps, when considering the amount of misleading news articles.

China does propaganda, the US outlets lie selectively according to their bias.

And such things can and will lead to having Trump elected with his maga disciples.

I think both are equally bad, just different.

yawaworht1978··on Steam has been banned in China
I don't know about the us, but in some places in Europe , the police or a security agency passes by daily to pick up a form that's filled out when checking in.

Source, friend worked in a hotel and I have seen it with my own eyes.

yawaworht1978··on Ask HN: Those making $500/month on side projects in 2021 – Show and tell
How much did you pay for it and are there any corruption issues? How big is it and do you sell wholesale or own brand or both?
yawaworht1978··on Now DuckDuckGo is building its own desktop browser
A mix of Firefox , opera(I kinda like some features), safari without the proprietary issues and the chromium parts minus the tracking would be amazing.

Rooting for the team, everyone used to say it's too hard to create a new browser from scratch, the monopoly is too overwhelming etc.

But we got brave, at least it's something fresh. And it appears duck has generated money or investments for following googles path. Next they could go for an email client, a good copy of the Ms suite and a video platform and google might become dethroned some day.

yawaworht1978··on Ubisoft's unprecedented “exodus” of developers
I can do quite a bit beyond hello world, speak German and have right of residency. What are the salaries for such programmers? Do get in touch if it's really that simple, I am ready to roll. The job requirements on the job pages are all a bit ridiculous with the requirements, am genuinely curious, if you reply with an email I can contact you I would love to have a chat. Danke vorab.
yawaworht1978··on The Universe Is Expanding Faster Than It Should Be
So it is something but we don't know what, right? Is it safe to say it's not something from the periodic table or we simply don't know at all?

And, in order to understand a something, do we always need that something to interact with EM radiation?

yawaworht1978··on Amazon still isn't doing enough to stop bait-and-switch reviews
Assuming this is the person's first viral video and they have no affiliate contract yet, do they get something in retrospective?

And if someone is a partner, how much money would they make just by the views? Let's exclude followers etc. Do they get something for just the views or do they have to have ads in the video?

yawaworht1978··on Amazon still isn't doing enough to stop bait-and-switch reviews
Does that work consistently with AliExpress or are there many scammers? I have read pretty bad stories, am curious.
yawaworht1978··on Don't start with microservices – monoliths are your friend
I have worked in companies which had monolith software, but they have been large and established businesses.

I will not name names, but I can say this...

All but one had constant, repetitive and quite painful failures, not fixable, it seemed. One company was an exemption, with some failures but a clear culture of pushing issues while implementing new features.

And one company I have been with from startup days till 150 employees had a microservice infrastructure, I have never seen so little downtime, such a smooth back office, front end, database, reporting system. The cto was owner and main developer, if something went awry, he would start working on the fix within minutes, no matter the day or time. The fastest issue response time ever. 2 lifetime downtimes of a handful minutes for the full service, and a couple components which didn't work for maybe an hour or sometimes overnight. I have to say though, when one microservice broke, it took down more tangential services than one would think, but other than that, hands down the best software I ever worked with.

yawaworht1978··on Mercedes-Benz wins approval for Level 3 autonomous driving on the Autobahn
Or Egypt, not too long ago, I read there was only a literal handful of traffic lights in the whole country.
yawaworht1978··on Mercedes-Benz wins approval for Level 3 autonomous driving on the Autobahn
Large part of the blame imo is the ridiculous fact that no governing body nor any car manufacturer came up with things like:

DUI test else engine does not start.

Speed limit as per road and weather conditions no car needs to do 70mph in the city or 150 mph anywhere.

Alertness check and monitoring , if not alert, car stops and that's it.

yawaworht1978··on Mercedes-Benz wins approval for Level 3 autonomous driving on the Autobahn
Wow, didn't know this.

Polar opposite of what Tesla is doing. If they can't match this, that's the whole German fsd market gone for them, possibly whole EU, as they will harmonize the Requirements.

yawaworht1978··on Mercedes-Benz wins approval for Level 3 autonomous driving on the Autobahn
German highways are special when it comes to this. Many of them have no speed limit at all. If traffic permits, you can travel at 180 mph and it's perfectly legal. You will see many Porsches doing so, you will see the electronically limited BMS do 155mph and you will see that things like vans travel at 100-110 mph as if it's a normal thing. This 60kph speed limit would simply look out of place on an Autobahn as they call it, and I gather this stem is only to be used on the motorway, specifically designated.

Sounds incredible until you witness it yourself.

yawaworht1978··on Julian Assange can be extradited to the US, court rules [pdf]
Daily mail has a headline that it's based on the promise that he won't be held at one of the supermax prisons. Does not sound very convincing.

The us still has Guantanamo and black sites around the world.

yawaworht1978··on Two lines of CSS that will improve HN on mobile (IMO)
Ok, but there are also other css things I would like to add on mobile, but how can I do this without a console, do I need an extension like grease monkey?
yawaworht1978··on Over 200 newspapers now involved in lawsuits vs. Google, Facebook
It's hard to tell, even in hindsight.

Maybe something like free access without ads to paper subscribers.

I just tried to run a search query with explicit "without google" and am returned the full spectrum of google marketing tools:-)

yawaworht1978··on Over 200 newspapers now involved in lawsuits vs. Google, Facebook
The newspapers have missed the opportunity to monetize for themselves and now need to roll out everything anew.

As they should, today's google amp links are much worse content wise than daily mail articles, and that's one hell of a low bar.

yawaworht1978··on Show HN: I redesigned my landing page to be as unprofessional as possible
Well, I would agree on that.

I get a white page , a horizontal line and this content:

502 Bad Gateway nginx/1.14.0 (Ubuntu)

yawaworht1978··on Apple broke up with me
Not immutable for all.

There are people who escaped war zones with no papers behin

Syrians in Germany, Bosnians in Arizona and many other such examples in the UK.

They often provide 1.1.year as dob.

yawaworht1978··on Germany: New government plans 'right to encryption'
To me, both don't make much sense, but the American example can be exploited very easily by a holiday indeed, if someone desires to do so.
yawaworht1978··on Octopuses, crabs and lobsters to be recognised as sentient beings under UK law
Yes ,don't cook lobsters alive I would say.

Most animals can definitely feel pain, maybe even insects.

Don't cause them unnecessary pain.

It's pretty said that the so called most intelligent animal species needs laws to understand that.

yawaworht1978··on I analyzed SaaS billing dark patterns
I absolutely think a CC upfront opens many doors to potential abuse and hidden recurring charges , obscure opt out etc.

Could use alternative methods to prevent spam, like sms etc.

Requiring a credit card is asking for too much trust from the user.

yawaworht1978··on Google loses challenge against EU antitrust ruling, $2.8B fine
Interesting calculation. Did they deduct taxes paid, salaries and dev time?

If not, this was a negative sum game for google.

Would be very curious to know.

yawaworht1978··on Uber, DoorDash and similar firms can’t defy the laws of capitalism after all
Yeah can't defy nothing with this model. A handful of parasitic wannabe visionaries grabbing as much investor money as fast they can so long the sales pitch sounds ok, meanwhile "disrupting" all laws they can and paying workers less than minimum wage. Seems like the drivers have wisened up in some places.
yawaworht1978··on Julian Assange Extradition Appeal: Day 2
I don't like the us foreign policies at all, nor the military forces and all the politicians everywhere collecting dust with their knees when the us is manhandling instead of using diplomatic channels.

However, I don't like wannabe anarchists like him never, ever taking responsibility. He ran away from the Sweden case, whatever that was about.

And I don't like this "he was just propagating the messages that are sent to him". He was taking money(called donations) and the operation was large, WikiLeaks is not some one person garage operation. This was internal government document leaking as a service, period.

Many Californian companies are generously using NDAs for much less critical info and leakers or thieves pay hefty consequences. Why wouldn't Assange?

In many places this would be classified as straight up espionage. He provocated the us government and military, of course they were to go after him.

It's not right, it might not be legal, but it was bound to happen. Anarchists don't believe in rulers ,rulers don't believe in anarchy and the rulers have the bigger guns, plain and simple.

yawaworht1978··on Google has a secret deal with FB called “Jedi Blue” that they knew was illegal
I agree, even a hefty personal financial fine which pushes people to the verge of bankruptcy will not impress these people. They will get a new high paying job eventually. The only adequate punishment is a long prison sentence and it would deter other people from doing the same. Btw, also send the "reports" IE management who enforces the project straight to prison with the bosses.

Sounds radical, maybe, but all the other laissez-faire and self regulation approaches have not worked.

A prison sentence also means not employable in the same salary segment ever again.

These people hide behind large legal teams and always remind everyone about their large responsibilities. But when it comes to be responsible and liable to bad things, nothing much happens.

Just prison, not like in china, where some executives have simply been executed.
