I'm not saying you're hiding anything it's just easy to see why you have this opinion. My example was not outlandish and is relevant. Vs the argument you made which was a purposefully dishonest analogy.
My hope is not to state that ads are evil as I don't believe that, just to point out that you are a person who serves ads, I also never state any of the opinions or beliefs you say I did, Have a nice day!
I don't think comparing Journalism to Netflix or ESPN is relevant since they provide quality entertainment (at least in the minds of their base) vs Journalists who stretch out 2 bits of searchable information into a 10 page ad puzzle full of psychological poking.
Yes, most journalism is less valuable than the critically acclaimed fantasy horror Stranger Things. This doesn't mean Journalism is less important or that good journalism doesn't exist. Honestly it's crazy to me Journalism doesn't see more critique. Most just sensationalize, fearmonger, and point fingers.
There are other things we could mention like, maybe there are many people who can afford NYT but still don't want to pay for it, but that's not what we were talking about. That being said, thanks for the reminder about other countries... I'm sure everyone on HN forgot about globes.
As an exaggerated albeit relevant comparison; this is like saying you don't want police even though there are lots of criminals, you can always just walk away if things look suspicious. This assumes you have the eye to determine what is suspicious. I was hoping I wouldn't have to worry about crime in the first place.
I was working at Microsoft during the switch to Skype for Business and the employees were dogfooding the beta. Terrible time to be alive.
There are many mechanisms we can rely on, like teaching someone the tradeoffs of a dangerous decision.
I simply stated Nintendo doesn't care as much, which is true, I didn't say "Nintendo absolutely doesn't care and won't do anything ever unless it's Switch related." I'm uninterested in replying any further since it's not getting across that I'm not diminishing the Smash issues, it's clear you're passionate and Nintendo are being real arseholes for sure.
You say the smash community has suffered for a decade (dramatic) but they still made Project M on GameCube and delisting Dolphin from steam is not that big of a deal. I don't need to get into Smash Tournament drama to tell you this with certainty and I have all the knowledge and history to back up this claim.
I've played Smash competitively for 2 decades and have been emulating since 1998 so I know the history better than most; my statement was not opinion. I'm not saying they absolutely don't care about older emulation but they care much more about their bottom line e.g. Yuzu.
Tishing would be more easily inferred than Smishing if they want to keep the phishing part for recognition. I can't find or think of any other examples in English where we combine a word with an acronyms first 2 letters pronounced phonetically.

That's my argument, #1 news iOS app means nothing
I would never listen to someone who proposes reallocating high-level talent resources as an important and solvable problem where the solution is, tell those people their passions are a waste of time. I also don't believe this person understands the talent market as they quote the "Many of the most talented artists of our time work in advertising," nonsense. Yes their are smart people working in advertising, but it's no deeper than that. There are other spaces and industries that have more brilliant minds.
The truth is, you don't know with certainty if working on VR technology is more meaningful or not.
Once you get used to the input style the complexity makes the character and thus the game more fun and interesting.
