xyzal··on US and UK refuse to sign AI safety declaration at summit
I think the saddest fact about it is that not even the US state weilds the power. It is some sociopathic bussinessmen.
xyzal··on Thomson Reuters wins first major AI copyright case in the US
I can't understand how some commenters frame such a result as not good. The big players will have no problem licensing large corpora to train their models, while my tiny site won't be vacuumed (legally at least) by scrapers if I won't agree.

My willingness to upload my projects anywhere is in the historical lows given the current state, honestly.

xyzal··on Everyone knows your location: tracking myself down through in-app ads
I would like to bring attention to this project. They aim to function in an application firewall like manner and manage to block connections by category, classified by domain name. Android only though, and the 'full' version is available only on f-droid due to some anti-adblock-like Play store policy. https://trackercontrol.org/
xyzal··on Ask HN: AI bots everywhere – does anyone have a good whitelist for robots.txt?

xyzal··on Amazon's AI crawler is making my Git server unstable
No. Feed them shit. Code with deliberate security vulns and so on.
xyzal··on Ask HN: Why can't Mozilla offer a paid privacy tier?
I would love to see a 'Donate to Firefox' button in Firefox. I would even donate on a monthly basis.
xyzal··on Ask HN: Predictions for 2025?
Autonomous slaughterbots will become reality
xyzal··on Oasis: A Universe in a Transformer
Maybe we should train models on Mario games to make Nintendo fight for the "Good Cause".
xyzal··on The Eukaryote, the First Cell to Get Organized
You made me laugh out loud. Thank you.
xyzal··on Canvas Fingerprinting
Is it not better to set CanvasBlocker RNG mode to 'perisitent', so that for the same domain you get a same fingerprint?
xyzal··on Canvas Fingerprinting
You can change some metrics that contribute to the fingerprint between sessions, that the fingerprinting party assumes are stable over time.

There is no utility for the fingerprintor of getting your unique fingerprint, when that fingerprint wont be registered ever again.

If you use Firefox, look up the CanvasBlocker extension. It can even make the fingerprint appear consistent when first party domain is the same.

xyzal··on Laziness Death Spirals
Sometimes I am not sure if I am depressive or lazy.
xyzal··on Microsoft's AI chatbot will 'recall' everything you do on its new PCs
Recall from some cloud service I bet
xyzal··on Novo Nordisk facing pressure as study finds $1k drug can be made for $5
Isn't everything healthcare-related much more expensive in the US?
xyzal··on A drone that calculates coordinates using a camera and Google Maps
I sense potential for anti-anti-drone warfare.
xyzal··on 'Impossible' to create AI tools like ChatGPT without copyrighted material, OpenA
The legal entity owning the brain should be responsible for that brains output. That is, you should be responsible for the output of your brain and OpenAI for the output of its LLMs.

Seems simple to me.

xyzal··on World of Goo 2
This will be an instabuy for me, even if it is just new levels with same gameplay as the first one.
xyzal··on Al Jazeera reporter's family killed in Gaza strike
I can't understand how is Israel with such an approach not creating more Hamas recruits.
xyzal··on Ask HN: How do I stop companies from scraping my site?

xyzal··on A compendium of funny, and downright bad licenses
That's perfect! I am gonna use the "DON'T BE A DICK PUBLIC LICENSE" for my next pet project, maybe adding a clause about AI ingestion.
xyzal··on Nightshade, a tool allowing artists to 'poison' AI models
Not exactly concerning image AI, but regarding LLMs -- in case your site does not depend on indexing -- you can easily generate boatloads of garbage text via Markov chains and invisible-link them.

One cool project for that> https://github.com/jsvine/markovify

(Personally had the most fun outputs when constructing the corpus from technical articles mixed with esoteric babble)

Active defense!

xyzal··on Halfsies
Congratulations, you may have discovered your unique talent! Now, about the monetization strategy ...

:)

xyzal··on Ask HN: How do I stop companies from scraping my site?
I think they are interested in rendering the corpus of text from their site unsuitable for training LLMs by stuffing it with nonsense more than preventing scraping.
xyzal··on D.C.'s ban on cashless businesses takes effect
Great idea for the next ban!
xyzal··on Webring Technology
Also, you can feed OpenAI bot et al. boatloads of garbage text for bonus points.
xyzal··on NixOS just dropped Anduril as a NixCon sponsor
I wonder where that anti-military sentiment in U.S. tech stems from? At least in former Soviet bloc, we view your military in quite a positive light. Well, for sure in a more positive light than armies of competing 'superpowers'.
xyzal··on A DIY ‘bionic pancreas’ is changing diabetes care
A friend showed me AndroidAPS's automation capabilities and my jaw dropped. "If this SSID is visible, I am in a gym, so lower basal rate by 20%".

xyzal··on Railway Oriented Programming
Somehow, this comment lifted my spirits. Thank you!
xyzal··on Putting Down the Pen: Reflecting on Oryx’s Journey
I think it happens if you write because you must/are obliged to, instead of writing just when you want to. Like, when you transform programming from a hobby to a job :-)
