xxxxxyyg1··on America Has a Ruling Class
The stereotypical NYT reader is precisely the ruling class.

The ones that always say their opinions are not a matter of politics.

The ones that claim "reality has a liberal bias."

When faced with divergent opinions or norms, goes straight to "misinformed" or "uneducated" for a label.

Generally speaking, they're nauseating, moralistic hypocrites.

xxxxxyyg1··on The Pandemic’s Wrongest Man
It's going to be interesting to see the inevitable backlash when some fascist populist leader rises to power and uses the normalized vocabulary of "spreading misinformation" to abuse people.

> Also, there is often a confusion where scientist say "we do not know (yet)" and it gets interpreted as "it does not".

Scientists seem completely comfortable saying things like "racism is the real virus" though, when only a short time before they claimed anyone going out in public for non-essential activities was playing a game of human sacrifice.

The idea that they're hesitant to make unfounded conclusions is wrong because there's been all sorts of bizarre statements throughout the entire establishment over the course of the pandemic.

Doom scenarios are the norm, and usually offered with no to little evidence, meanwhile any good or slightly optimistic news is always downplayed.

> According to the studies I linked above, closing schools during outbreaks saved many, many thousands of (mostly adult) lives.

How many millions of children have had a profound impact on their lives, essentially sacrificing crucial years that determine the rest of their lives?

Some people seem ok with sacrificing children to save (primarily) the elderly.

xxxxxyyg1··on Ontario to enter four-week, province-wide Covid-19 shutdown on Saturday
If we're going to be super sensitive about the almost non-existent threat of children wrt sars-cov-2 why aren't we also super sensitive about destroying any semblance of normality in children's lives?

Surely this damages children in their crucial developmental stages when they're deprived of social signalling, and effective teaching methods (sorry, Zoom doesn't cut it).

As science would inform us - humans have millions of years of evolution searing social interaction into our biology. Cutting this out will have profound effects.
