xxxxxyy1··on 27-year-old nurse vaccinated with AstraZeneca dies in Georgia
> basically a religious reverence where no measure is too severe to prevent even one death

What infuriates me is the Krispy Kreme promotion...if the public health establishment cared about "saving lives" they'd outlaw Krispy Kreme. And in the obesity epidemic, we see yet another example of the utter incompetence of all the educated technocrats that claim to care about our wellbeing. Newsflash: they don't. Our society is profoundly ill - something that's happened under the expert guidance and advice of the current regime that everyone glorifies.

If there was one policy that could kill the most people while seeming benign it'd be offering them a free donut every day for a year with proof of your vaccination card.

xxxxxyy1··on Ask HN: How do old (30plus) software engineers remain excited about the field?
I had an interview where they weren't expecting me when I showed up (red flag 1) and the interviewer asked how old I was and after I responded said "wow you look like you're in high school" (red flag 2).

I always wonder how far I could have taken that legally, but I'm not litigious.

fair to say that uncle bob has achieved more success than most people discussing this, and pretty much all of the discussion here is beyond toxic
xxxxxyy1··on Bitcoin is not a Battery – it is a Sink
> has a value to rich people who have most of the money

so you're agreeing that value is entirely dependent on subjectivity and circumstance?

> There's no value created by crunching random SHA-256.

So I shouldn't have to pay high wages if my employees aren't creating anything of value?

People seem to pick and choose when they believe the labor theory of value.

The point of the matter is that value *is* what people are willing to pay for something.

You could argue that a Van Gogh is just arbitrary colors applied to a canvas, it's not worth anything inherently other than through the subjective valuations of other people.

xxxxxyy1··on A rare clotting disorder may cloud the world's hopes for AstraZeneca's vaccine
My position at the moment is that I'll get vaccinated when they stop demanding it & it's finished the normal FDA approval process.

I've seen way too many 180deg reversals from the people that typically treat "profit-based" healthcare with a complete critical attitude.

Combine that with the extreme theater and propaganda efforts for complete conformity, i.e. forcing everyone to wear masks even people that can reasonably be considered extremely low risks like those that were previously infected or vaccinated. It just doesn't make sense, since they demand maximum evidence from their detractors and minimum evidence for when they put forward various threats, risks and fears.

I can't upvote this enough.

Additionally, it doesn't make sense to have a one-size-fits-all approach to vaccination as though people who already got infected require vaccination.

I get Jonestown vibes from the public health establishment, since the policy position is absolute conformity. No exceptions!

Doesn't infection from the virus confer immunity to other proteins not found in the vaccine(which AFAIK only induces immunity against the spike protein)?
