xvxvx··on Is the Food Industry in Trouble?
Claiming GLP-1 use is a bigger factor than pricing is kinda nuts. I’d like to see that data because I think it’s wrong.

That being said: I hope to see a move away from packaged junk food to fresh and healthy meals at supermarkets. Most supermarkets have fresh meal sections now, but these are shipped in daily. I’m thinking more in line of a fully functioning kitchen in stores, relying less on preservatives.

Maybe one day soon we’ll look back on junk food and TV dinners as an unhealthy relic of the past.

xvxvx··on Ask HN: If AI took your job tomorrow, what is your plan?
Sell my home. Withdraw my 401k. Buy a small home outright, somewhere away from the bullshit and find a non-tech job knowing that I don’t need much money to survive. A sort of semi-early retirement.
xvxvx··on Tennessee inmate still alive after being administered two lethal injections
“executioners had injected both syringes of lethal injection chemicals” and Christa Pike was “still alive and snoring”

2026 is really something else. 3 months left.

xvxvx··on California bans child marriage, a practice still legal in 32 US states
Campaigners always use examples of old men marrying young girls but that’s not common at all.

96% of children getting married were 16 or 17, and 85% of the adults marrying those children were 18-23. Not quite the horror show that campaigners push.

I agree that no one under 18 should be getting married, I just question their tactics.

xvxvx··on Uber Wait Times Rise 19% as Prices Climb 53%: Study
I’ve noticed a sizable decrease in Amazon Prime delivery speed and quality this year. Items often see their delivery window constantly pushed back, even to the next day. Some items have gone missing. Some arrived damaged. A far cry from the early days. Waiting for the inevitable price increase to counterbalance the decreased service.
xvxvx··on Anthropic's IPO Prospectus Is a Fucking Doozy
‘Anthropic is making a massive bet that AI will transform the global economy more profoundly than industrialization, electricity and the internet, according to its IPO prospectus seen by Reuters.’

I mean, if you’re gonna aim big may as well go all out. Next week OpenAI will claim to transform the global economy more than life itself.

All horseshit, of course. Still haven’t found a benefit to AI in my work or personal life. I hope the crash is a doozy.

xvxvx··on U.S. Strike on Iranian School May Have Been War Crime, U.N. Report Says
Bombing a school full of children, twice, killing 100+ ‘may’ have been a war crime. What’s the alternative? An oopsy?
xvxvx··on Iran strikes on Amazon data centers caused permanent loss of customer data
So I literally have a better backup system at home than Amazon?
xvxvx··on 'My Husband Has No Friends'
I’ve seen and heard this common misconception from women for many years now. It’s not unusual for men to regress socially as they find a mate and start a new family. I personally have done that and prefer time with my family over socializing with friends. And my friends seem to do the same.

But for women, this doesn’t seem to happen as much. Pity the poor men being dragged to social functions against their will. I literally have a T-shirt that states ‘Sorry I’m late, I didn’t want to come’.

Saying your husband has no friends is incorrect. I’m sure he has plenty of friends, he just doesn’t spend much or any time with them. That’ll change when the divorce finalizes.

xvxvx··on Valve's Steam Frame costs $1,059
My Meta Occulus was fun but has been gathering dust for a few years now. I wonder what the market for VR is these days.
xvxvx··on USB-C v 3.5mm: Which one offers better audio quality?
I’ve never had any luck getting digital music to sound as good as my vinyl collection. Noticeably not even close. Tried everything you can imagine up to the point a friend brought over his $1000+ DAC and even he saw a massive difference in quality.

Streaming and digital music is very convenient but there’s a massive trade off in quality. As someone who was stung by low quality MP3s in the Napster days, I cherish my vinyl collection.

Don’t let audiophiles put you off. If you truly love music, investing in a record player and decent sound system is well worth it.

xvxvx··on Microsoft patches Windows and Excel – breaks audio, remote access, and paste
That’s my bigger fear in this scenario: that they did limited testing with the internal agreement that any small issues that arise can be carried by the customers. As long as it didn’t fully break, it can be released.
xvxvx··on Microsoft patches Windows and Excel – breaks audio, remote access, and paste
I’m lazy and don’t want to spend the rest of the year trying to get Linux running on my Alienware desktop. I think most of the software I use is available on Linux, I just need to find the time to get started.
xvxvx··on Microsoft patches Windows and Excel – breaks audio, remote access, and paste
Aside from the audio issue, it feels like the remote access and pasting issues should have been discovered in QA. This constant slide in quality over the past few years has me looking to Linux as an option.
xvxvx··on US Government worried that AI companies can't innovate without legal theft
Par for the course when it comes to US law enforcement and the government. This mentality has, in varying degrees, caused anything from slavery, to lung cancer from tobacco, to black lung in coalminers, and mental health problem with children using social media.

If it generates revenue, thus taxes, then fuck it: let it be. That's their mentality.

xvxvx··on Commodore 64 released September 1, 1982
My experience was the same. Loved my Spectrum 128 but friends had the Commodore and its graphics were superior. Very expensive though.

The magic in the air in those days will never be replicated.

xvxvx··on Apple reveals 'shocking evidence' from ex-employee's MacBook in OpenAI suit
Reminds me of the story of an ex-Coca-Cola employee who offered to sell the secret recipe to Pepsi. Pepsi immediately let Coca-Cola know and it was handled. Not a good look for OpenAI. They come off as desperate and unprofessional.
xvxvx··on Musk's AI company sues its users as victim lawsuits over Grok deepfakes mount
The fact that Grok could even do such a thing is the main problem here.
xvxvx··on Tim Cook Stepping Down as Apple CEO Next Week: 15 Years in Quotes
‘I'm proud to be gay, and I consider being gay among the greatest gifts God has given me.’

Zoinks. He’s in for a surprise.

xvxvx··on Y Combinator's Ankit Gupta faces backlash over H-1B comments
It was clearly a minor joke but I don’t think people realize how close to the fire the immigration debate is. There are sections of X making plans for seizing the property and belongings of deported H1B visa holders. It’s extreme but not impossible.
xvxvx··on Flock CEO gets his house blurred out on Google Maps and Zillow
Tells you all you need to know about Flock.
xvxvx··on U.S. State Department pauses immigrant visa applications
A poem on a plaque on a foreign statue, written 107 years after the formation of the United States is neither legally binding nor central to what the US is. And the poem doesn’t endorse visa scammers.
xvxvx··on Years of reported brain injuries linked to a Six Flags roller coaster
Since when did CNN need a subscription?
xvxvx··on U.S. State Department pauses immigrant visa applications
They’re doing what they should have been doing all along: enforcing the visa rules. The system is being gamed so they have to crack down. There are around 10-15 million illegal immigrants in the US, not including mass visa fraud. It cannot continue.
xvxvx··on Twitter – The Square Is Back
Is it still going to be a run by far-left, pearl-clutching, virtue-signaling, cancel-culture vultures? Or will people be able to discuss without censorship?
xvxvx··on RevMed's Pancreatic Cancer Pill Priced Above $475,000 a Year
Luckily, the entire field of medical science is solely about curing disease and saving lives…
xvxvx··on Would you give Grok bot access to your bank accounts?
The modern equivalent of posting photos of your credit card to 4chan.
xvxvx··on The Rings of Power Introduces LOTR's Next Generation of Dwarves
I genuinely love this show but YouTube is stacked with for-profit, rage-bating haters. They’ve been hating on the show since it was first announced and have created a whole ecosystem around it.

What’s fascinating is that they’re all right-wing trolls, and engaging in the same behavior that they have railed against on the left (cancel-culture, concern trolling, clout chasing). They’re also unashamedly racist and sexist.

The show is great. Check out Rings & Realms on YouTube for super detailed episode analysis by actual fans of Tolkien.

xvxvx··on Meta reaches $17B settlement over social media harms to children
I’m beyond sick of how this country operates. This is small potatoes for Meta and stops the $1T+ lawsuit, which would have had an actual impact on these scumbags.

Time and time again it’s the same story: the Protestant worship of money and wealth at the expense of others. If it makes money then it’s a blessing from God, and thus cannot be evil.

Sorry, Americans, but your children will be mind raped with social media and pornography to grow the GDP. Don’t put up a fight: the government has their back. And an army.

xvxvx··on Apple Maps Ads Are Here, and There's No Way to Turn Them Off
‘Enshittification is the gradual process where online platforms and services decline in quality as companies shift from pleasing users to ruthlessly maximizing corporate profits.’
