xs_kid··on Rails Google Summer of Code students and mentors
I love the idea.
xs_kid··on Rails Google Summer of Code students and mentors
probably they were waiting for students to start coding to announce this
xs_kid··on Gabriel García Márquez, Literary Pioneer, Dies at 87
I love this one from same author:

"On the day they were going to kill him, Santiago Nasar got up at five-thirty in the morning to wait for the boat the bishop was coming on. He'd dreamed he was going through a grove of timber trees where a gentle drizzle was falling, and for an instant he was happy in his dream, but when he awoke he felt completely spattered with bird shit."

xs_kid··on Rails 4.1.0 released
the rails team is waiting for a patch to do it
xs_kid··on Rails 4.1.0 released
it's pretty hard to do something better with the current status of Rack
xs_kid··on Rubygems.org AWS bill for Feb 2014 [pdf]
I guess host it in AWS is a benefit for the integration with other services hosted in Amazon like TravisCI (the most popular CI for open-source Ruby projects) and Heroku (the most popular hosting for Ruby projects)
xs_kid··on Lotus: Ruby full stack web framework
Talk is cheap, show me the code ;)
xs_kid··on What I Didn't Say
you can not expect to have women as core committers immediately, first step is get more women involved in community and OSS.

I don't think the work that Python/Django people are doing to get more women involved in the community can be easily ignored.

xs_kid··on What I Didn't Say
what about the software that he creates? will you stop considering using Django in future projects?
xs_kid··on What I Didn't Say
You don't have idea about what is a "witch hunt" and using that metaphor to describe some tweets is very insensitive and softens the absolute horror of people killed in real witch hunting.

Do you know that witch hunt still being a thing in some countries of the world?: http://www.eltiempo.com/colombia/medellin/ARTICULO-WEB-NEW_N... (title translated: Woman accused of being a witch in a town in Antioquia was burned)

This is a witch hunt: a woman was accused of being witch and _burned alive_, do you think that is even comparable with the tweets of Jacob Kaplan Moss?

xs_kid··on Girls Who Code
+1, adding some money to Shanley's account
xs_kid··on Girls Who Code
> several of her circle started Gittip accounts and they are cleaning house

459usd/week*52weeks/year = 23k/year - taxes = ~10k

They will be rich soon.

xs_kid··on List of minimalist frameworks
Found this nice Sinatra micro-clone thanks to the page:

https://github.com/guilleiguaran/nancy

xs_kid··on List of minimalist frameworks
agree padrino is pretty near to Rails, what's the criteria used to determine if a framework is minimalist or not?
xs_kid··on Rails 4.1.0 beta1 released
No everyone likes that approach, some people prefers to save tokens in yaml files (see on github, you will find a dozen o plugins that do same thing)
xs_kid··on How to send DMs on Twitter without permission
Isn't a bug according to twitter employers:

http://twitter.com/jmhodges/status/411975535703511040

xs_kid··on Ben Noordhuis's Departure
"Many of you already have expressed your opinion regarding recent drama, and I'd like to ask that you please respect our wishes to let this issue rest, so that we can all focus on the road forward."

Sure, please don't talk about this anymore since it can harm to Joyent's reputation and business.

xs_kid··on Ben Noordhuis's Departure
Sure, he voluntarily resigned after of being called an asshole and sexist by the project owner (Joyent), seems totally expected in my opinion.
xs_kid··on Ben Noordhuis's Departure
Because of this incident (and Joyent response on it), Isaac Roth from StrongLoop and others are asking for a neutral home for project:

https://groups.google.com/d/msg/nodejs/mqSf47HhmyY/Wl8Od9vb1...

xs_kid··on Ben Noordhuis's Departure
Before of this incident each company (Joyent & StrongLoop) had two core members in the project, now StrongLoop have only one: Bert Belder
xs_kid··on Ben Noordhuis's Departure
Joyent was clearly trying to harm the reputation of Ben and of his employeer StrongLoop
xs_kid··on Ben Noordhuis's Departure
That was Joyent defending their control over to project, remember that Ben & StrongLoop were a menace for Joyent:

http://venturebeat.com/2013/09/18/can-this-startup-steal-nod...

xs_kid··on Bundler to be integrated into Rubygems
Right and the guy of the last comment of the issue is proposing also an solution for it:

https://github.com/soveran/cargo

xs_kid··on Collaboration not Derision in the Node Community
It's just me or there are some (a lot of) tension between Joyent and StrongLoop about the management of the project?
xs_kid··on The Power of a Pronoun
Obviously Node.js isn't a community project, it's a Joyent project and this is a clear confirmation of it.
xs_kid··on Rails 3.2 Performance: Another Step Slower
OH: "Stupid Rails team. Why can't you fix performance issues based on anonymous New Relic stats alone?"
xs_kid··on The perils of mixing open source and money
Sure, paid by companies, they aren't asking for funds in kickstarter.
xs_kid··on Ask HN: PHP vs. Node.js vs. Go for a new startup?
I remember you criticized on twitter this point of Node some time ago and the response of some leaders of Node community was like "Sorry, this isn't Erlang" and "Erlang is better but it's harder"
xs_kid··on Guido van Rossum, John Resig, DHH, and Pamela Fox are Judges on CreateHS
Use short names in cases like this:

Guido, John Resig, DHH and Pamela Fox

xs_kid··on Ask HN: Getting paid to work on open source full-time?
in a related note a friend of mine that's rails core member is interested in getting a job working full-time in rails, anyone want to hire him?
