xoptions··on Ask HN: How to find what I am really good at?
You may not find it by asking others. You will lose sense of time if you really want to get good at something. Sportsmen do not go on a quest in their childhood. They are playing in the middle while their peers are enjoying birthday parties.

The good thing is you are exploring a lot. And exploration never ends until you begin to enjoy getting tired.

xoptions··on Ask HN: How is Rock against Slack for remote collaboration?
This is a useful nuance. Small but very impactful.

xoptions··on Ask HN: How do you define an entrepreneur?
That is what I am trying to contest here, a manager can also be an entrepreneur. One does not need to own a business to be an entrepreneur. I believe it is a mindset. Even a manager running P&L of a division can be an entrepreneur if one can deliver on ways to create products/ services to improve lives of customers/ users.
xoptions··on Ask HN: How do you define an entrepreneur?
Yes, sometimes even an incremental improvement can create great businesses. e.g. Freshworks, earlier known as Freshdesk, started as an economical version of Zendesk.
xoptions··on Ask HN: How do you define an entrepreneur?
I agree that it requires one to lead and take decisions. I am not limited to the usual definition. I want to know if you agree or disagree with the usual definition. By the way, leadership reminds me of an excellent essay, Solitude and Leadership by William Deresiewicz: https://theamericanscholar.org/solitude-and-leadership/
xoptions··on Ask HN: How do I learn how to tell a good story?
There's a free course on art of storytelling by Pixar on Khan Academy. https://www.khanacademy.org/computing/pixar#storytelling
xoptions··on Ask HN: How are good borrowers rewarded in your country?
There is First Republic Bank that rewards edu loan repayments. If you close it early then it rewards you with cash as a percentage of interest that were yet to be paid. It believes that it will earn more from the customer in its lifetime.

e.g. if you repay a 10 year loan in 4 years. You will be rewarded with cash as a percentage of interest that were yet to be paid in next 6 years.

Is it true that credit behaviour is better in economies where ratings strictly affect non-banking aspects of life?
xoptions··on Ask HN: What are good Qs to check the emotional state of a person before hiring?
Thank you for understanding. I believe in HN as much for cross questioning as for showing empathy.
xoptions··on Ask HN: What are good Qs to check the emotional state of a person before hiring?
Thank you stocktech. I don't mind roasting, it's part and parcel of an online world where some people find pleasure in trolling behind a veil. I am grateful that HN is an empathetic community and I shall continue to trust it.

These questions are about candidates past, however I intend to know the current status of mind. This reminds me that I was able to confirm a candidate's state by asking him about his daily routine. His after-work-hours were very depressing for me. Conversations are serendipitous - how they have an innate quality of bringing out the best from within. :-)

xoptions··on Ask HN: What are good Qs to check the emotional state of a person before hiring?
Yes. I have been burned recently. We hired an excellent candidate fitting exactly to our needs. We found him to delivering more than we expected in first two months. And then in third month, he started avoided us and resigned by the end of it. There was nothing wrong with him nor anyone had any problem with him. In fact, he was the most sought person at water-cooler too. I loved him for his ability to question anything and everything. He was open-minded for improvements too. Hence, I am assuming that he did not join in right emotional state. The initial excitement was due to a new beginning, probably.
xoptions··on Ask HN: What are good Qs to check the emotional state of a person before hiring?
Yes. I am talking about mental health. Thank you for asking.
xoptions··on Ask HN: Get acquihired or continue bootstrapping 3y+ startup?
- Startups are challenging and it NEVER gets easier. In hindsight, the stories that we tell are exciting to share.

- Downsides of acquihire is that we may not adopt to the culture to build markets. I want to work and build on their product (i am a user). They want to expand to a market that we are targeting and our domain knowledge attracts their team.

- Currently, I really want a direction: our TG is affected by the slowdown. It is also the TG that will emerge first as soon as the markets open. I am unsure how long the delay is going to last. In next few years, if the acquihire turns out to be right then I'll be in the centre of building markets that I love. In the long run, I want to build a useful venture. It will be the last place where team mates come together to build their careers.

- I never thought of actively looking for buyers because I would not buy my own company today. Although we have customers, I think we have a lot to do before we begin to surprise ourselves.

- Two roles that we could hire: This is an interesting point. I don't have to think of those two roles, it is on my mind. As and when we get a hint of getting a bandwidth for those two roles, we'll roll out the JDs.
