xname2··on Tim Cook: Technology Should Serve Humanity, Not the Other Way Around
So you think "a massive overhaul of Foxconn's employment practices" will serve humanity?
xname2··on Many Colleges Fail to Improve Critical-Thinking Skills
90% of college "critical thinking" will result in same conclusion. 9% will change their conclusions to match with the majority. 1% will be shamed.
xname2··on TeX Live 2017 released
You can try bookdown.
xname2··on Twitter co-founder: I’m sorry if we made Trump’s presidency possible
I don't think he wants to censor speech. He may suggest to use Twitter as a platform to promote certain kind of speech, with sort of technical means.
xname2··on Ask HN: How do I switch from being a passive consumer to an active producer?
Find a lover, get married, raise at least two good kids. This will be your best contribution to the society.
xname2··on Let them paste passwords
The end result of "discourages use of a password manager" is definitely this for normal users: use the same password for all website logins. How is this a good thing?
xname2··on Google, Not the Government, Is Building the Future
Did you post on wrong thread?
xname2··on Google, Not the Government, Is Building the Future
This is apparently unfair. You should do this to the parent thread.
xname2··on Google, Not the Government, Is Building the Future
Did I even mention “free market”? Did I say government should not get involved at all? Where is this negativity coming from?
xname2··on Google, Not the Government, Is Building the Future
I may agree with your first sentence. I don't know how to respond to your second sentence.
xname2··on Google, Not the Government, Is Building the Future
Thanks for your insight. This term is apparently useless.
xname2··on Google, Not the Government, Is Building the Future
Government doesn't need to build the infrastructure. Government need to provide institution for business to build infrastructure.

Not sure what you mean by 'propagandaland'. I'm glad so many Americans still believe in limited government. This is one of the most important / best features of this country.

xname2··on U.S. Census director resigns amid turmoil over funding of 2020 count
Should the new electronic system really cost that much? Do they work with the SV, or will they just give the project to a terrible contractor like the health insurance exchange market?
xname2··on Apple plans to spend $1B to support advanced manufacturing jobs in the U.S
South China Sea.
xname2··on Loss of Coral Reefs Could Cost $1T
This number does not make sense at all. Yes, certain sites lost visitors because of loss of coral reefs, but how come this financial effect is global? Do visitors go to other places? Even if they stay home, don't they spend money on other things? Even if they don't spend those money, can the savings help them in the future? It is just ridiculous to claim losing certain visitors as global financial cost.
xname2··on Twitter allegedly deleting negative tweets about United Airlines incident
Does twitter shadow ban also?
xname2··on ReactXP – A library for building cross-platform apps
AS a C# programmer, I hope MS can be more focused on Xamarin. Have tried react kind of staff, just can't get into javascript.
xname2··on IoT garage door opener maker disables customer’s service after bad review
What do you mean fire customers in B2B? You can terminate service with business customers anytime you want to?
xname2··on The Lasting Consequences of Student Debt
It is not just stupid. It is politically motivated. The idea that people should be responsible for individual decision making is somehow contradict with today's teaching in humanities and liberal arts. It is no coincidence that almost all of those professors are far left and they advocate students should just major in whatever they like, and at the same time they hate business school, and at the same time them agree with free college to everyone, etc.
xname2··on Yale Climate Opinion Maps
Many times survey does not matter (that much). People will say they are concerned, but their action may reflect they do not really care at all.

Are people at east and west coast really concerned about global warming? Let's don't simply ask them, but check their action instead. Are they selling beach houses? Are we seeing price dropping in beach houses?

xname2··on For 18 years I thought she was stealing my identity, until I found her
Here is how a black SJW addresses the issue: Black Single Mothers Are More Than Scapegoats

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/rasheena-fountain/black-single...

So, basically if you think single motherhood as a phenomenon is a social problem, in her mind, you are blaming single mothers. I never understand this kind of mind-twisting.

xname2··on Top Obama Adviser Sought Names of Trump Associates in Intel
7th paragraph ->

Last month when she was asked on the "PBS NewsHour" about reports that Trump transition officials, including Trump himself, were swept up in incidental intelligence collection, Rice said: "I know nothing about this," adding, "I was surprised to see reports from Chairman Nunes on that account today."

xname2··on [dead]
The way the author tells the story is totally upside-down. You have to read through the text very carefully to figure out what really is happening in policy change. To the end, you still can't. You need to read a real report to learn what's really going on.
xname2··on We’re losing the information war
Here is another example: "A Sea of Charter Schools in Detroit Leaves Students Adrift" https://www.nytimes.com/2016/06/29/us/for-detroits-children-...

According to NYT: "half the charters perform only as well, or worse than, Detroit’s traditional public schools."

According to data from the cited study: Half the charters perform significantly better, around half no significant difference, a small percentage (1% in reading, 7% in math) perform significantly worse.

See: https://jaypgreene.com/2016/06/29/nyt-hatchet-job-on-charter...

xname2··on We’re losing the information war
"To the extent that there is bias, it is slight and subtle." This is a delusion. NYT has a bad record in reporting data. One easy example: "Amid ‘Trump Effect’ Fear, 40% of Colleges See Dip in Foreign Applicants". https://www.nytimes.com/2017/03/16/us/international-students...

Quote from the original report: "39% of responding institutions reported a decline in international applications, 35% reported an increase, and 26% reported no change in applicant numbers. " http://www.aacrao.org/docs/default-source/TrendTopic/Immigra...

xname2··on Twitter explores subscription-based option
Will the service change the current top-comments-all-negative situation under all of Trump's posts?
xname2··on No evidence to back idea of learning styles
The statement could be true, but has nothing to do with learning styles. Because everyone "learn better when graphs/charts/drawings/illustrations are part of the instructional material".
xname2··on Study: Immigrants Founded 51% of U.S. Billion-Dollar Startups
How about Canada? They have a point system. Should they have even a higher percentage?
xname2··on Show HN: Freeter is out of Beta
Does it only embed webapps? Can I put a desktop app, say MS Word, inside it?
xname2··on Fake Sweden expert on Fox News – no connection to Swedish security
So many comments here imply that there is no immigration problem whatsoever in Sweden. It's all Trump/right-win made-up. But it is not true:

https://www.nytimes.com/2017/02/24/world/europe/sweden-natio...

Sweden, Nation of Open Arms, Debates Implications of Immigration

"In 2014, the anti-immigrant Sweden Democrats gained 12.9 percent of the vote in parliamentary elections to become the country’s third-largest party, up from only 2.9 percent eight years earlier."
