xmjw··on The curious case of the missing period
Holy shit. This is one of the 2 bugs in my career I never solved. (That I knew about, and lost sleep over, etc…)
xmjw··on ‘AeroNabs’ – Inhalable Protection Against Covid-19
Anyone remember the Benzites from Star Trek TNG? I guess we know what that gas they breathe in is for...
xmjw··on Sending Cat Pictures Over The Phone (2015)
I was lucky enough to see JF demo this, really cool work.

xmjw··on What Happens When One of Your Coworkers Dies
I've had this twice. Once to a car accident on the motorway in 2002. Once to a bizarre form of leukaemia such that (from our perspective) the guy had back pain on Thursday, and died over the Easter weekend by Tuesday in 2009.

Still think of them both from time to time. Some of my now-ex colleagues still comment on the anniversary of their passing on Facebook. I don't think I could honestly remember the dates if they didn't... Their names always stick with me though.

xmjw··on XKCD 1190 is now more individual frames than there are XKCD comics.
Perfectly true - it was more a point about how many drawings there are for this comic given the total number of comics he has done. So I guess I'm commenting on the amount of work he had to do. If you think about the massive 'pan and zoom' comic year or so ago, that was a similarly vast undertaking. I thought it was a catchy headline, but you make a very good point.

Yes - after a couple of days it slowed down and now updates once per hour.
xmjw··on Over 1000 frames in, XKCD 1190 is still going

xmjw··on This page is served by the small web server running on a Sinclair ZX81
I appreciate that by posting it here, it has almost no chance of standing up to the traffic... But it was too cool not to share.
xmjw··on Pirates playing a game dev simulator complain about piracy
Great article! If you get paid to produce software for a living, it strikes me as pretty crazy to happily rip-off other people's work.
xmjw··on Write Better with Draft
I'd love to be able to use this an en embedded or API based thing. (For money, obviously...) It would work really well inside something I've been working on - it's basically a supercharged version of what I'd planned on building in-house. Love it.
xmjw··on The Minecraft Test: How to Tell if Your Console Is Screwed
Totally, this is why I've started churning out game ideas and concepts ever since I found Cocos2D for iOS. Constantly throwing them away, but the point is I can easily try without a lot of knowledge and financial investment. If Apply TV wasn't a bit laggy for mirroring, that would be my perfect console.

Android, etc equivalents are, of course, available...

xmjw··on What should we call the "phone"?
I've noticed a lot of people tend to refer to them by the device type, 'have you seen my iPhone/Blackberry/Android' etc. But I think the concept of a 'phone' has evolved and the meaning of the word is changing/has changed. I don't hear people say 'smart phone' vs 'phone' anymore, but 'phone' vs 'feature phone'. Obviously I'm rather ignoring landlines...
