xkiwi··on Are You a Robot? Introducing “No CAPTCHA ReCAPTCHA”
It rise privacy concern for me.

If real name and email validation is mandatory, I will wonder what Google will use that data for. Is that some kind of monitor tool which want to know REAL NAME, EMAIL ADDR whenever you want to use a website?

Don't forget Google always beg for your telephone number for "security reasons", Google+ wants your real name for "Policy reason", I upgraded one of my Nexus to Android L, and everything I do has to sign in: some game(Botanicula for instant) work fine without internet in Android 4.4.4 but requires internet signin in Android L.

Now, quote from "Government Information Requests"

"less than 0.00385% of customers had data disclosed due to government information requests."

Only 699529.6 round to 699529 customers had data disclosed.

xkiwi··on Why Google is Hurrying the Web to Kill SHA-1
Why SHA-2 instead of RSA 4096 or SHA-256? Even the RSA is compromised but 4096-bit will take a lot more(maybe few more hours) resources to decrypt.

==edited==

Thank you for the reply.

xkiwi··on Why Google is Hurrying the Web to Kill SHA-1
Https is to prevent wiretapping and man-in-the-middle attacks.

The problem now is even you established HTTPS connection, the weak SHA-1 encryption will not protect you.

xkiwi··on Linux Laptop Recommendations
I use compressed air to clean the fans every 6 months, also applied new Arctic Silver 5 cpu paste.

I have fans controlled not to run unless CPU or GPU over 52C.

Looking for a replacement like Thinkpad is extreme hard.

xkiwi··on Linux Laptop Recommendations
I have t42p, t43p, t60 and t61 running CentOS and Ubuntu.

#All of them has up time for more than 500 days. #T42p been on since 2007. #I am missing old IBM laptop, almost everything are serviceable.

I believe in "user-serviceable" of anything, Cars, Washing Machines and old IBM/Lenovo laptops.

Same theory works here.

xkiwi··on Death by Inches: The battle over the metric system in America
I am implementing imperial system on our currency.

12 cents = a dime. 12 dimes = a dollar, 12 dollars = a thousand dollar. 12 thousand dollars = a million dollar. 12 million dollars = a billion dollar.

can you tell me how much is a billion dollar in a dollar unit now?

xkiwi··on Choose Firefox Now, Or Later You Won't Get A Choice
One thing I want to point out immediately when I saw this post: Chrome makes virus-like auto-update, It just freak me out. Google keeps their product auto-update and gave a reason: better services, but ALL I CAN FEEL is FINFISHER is coming closer and closer.

Second, Firefox give me more freedom so far. I can install whatever plugin I want, regardless whether violate Google's terms of service. Instant example, you can't download a Youtube video with chrome store app.

xkiwi··on Death by Inches: The battle over the metric system in America
Right way. Driving on the right makes so much more sense than driving on the left.

If you're driving a manual transmission car on the right side of the road, you'd steer with your left hand and change gears with your right. This works out nicely for right-handed people, i.e. 90% of the population.

xkiwi··on Show HN: Pangoly – Build your shiny new PC
#1 Almost all games are created by PC, and port to console, not the other way around.

#2 Almost all games can play on PC, maybe just with lower setting.

#3 PC games are for people who like to discover => example how someone found out how to enable watch dog's E3 graph setting. But you have no control over console.

#4 Almost all console games are created by Pc, oh wait.

I wish there are more pictures like these available on internet. Anyone know where to look for?
xkiwi··on Devops needs feminism
As a founder in tech field, I use a few steps to detect feminism,

1. If they have equal opportunities/equipments?

2. If the statements are bias based on other people instead of looking problem within themselves first.

3. Do they have the right/enough knowledge in the field.

In my experiences, Number 3 is very important. I never meet anyone with enough practice & knowledge about programming complains about gender problem. Stories I read is about people cannot write a single line of code but wants to be the executive/Project Manger.

xkiwi··on Why didn't we patent the spreadsheet? Were we stupid? (1999)
that's not my point. I hope people really have a deep through before they do anything.

But, I have more interesting to troll and patent trolls. Both are fun and worth doing.

xkiwi··on Why didn't we patent the spreadsheet? Were we stupid? (1999)
I immediately come up with an idea to patent stupidity, so no one is allowed to be stupid or they have to pay a fee.

Kickstarter is so restrictive is because they wanted to maximized profit & also result of their taste. Put restriction on hackers who really innovate and create real products? well good luck with that, I am with freedom.
