xinayder··on Anthropic Is Building a Predictive Surveillance System to Monitor Activists
Don't forget the main point that Anthropic reported the user to the police but didn't share any of his messages or conversation history with the cops. Because their security policy doesn't allow it.
xinayder··on DaVinci Resolve 21.1
How come most mainstream distros have support for said codec but Blackmagic cannot/won't add support for it on Linux?

Why can Openshot, Kdenlive, any other Linux-native video editor edit MP4 files but DaVinci cannot, unless you pay for it?

Genuine question.

xinayder··on DaVinci Resolve 21.1
They'd rather add agentic AI support instead of adding proper codec support on the free Linux version (which is already supported on Windows).

smh

xinayder··on Git hosting that never leaves Europe
How is this different than Codeberg?
xinayder··on Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look [video]
I'm a bit skeptic of the game because it's pushing higher prices in the industry while being totally unjustified.

But I'm not surprised at all? Like, all of these things the game does were/are entirely possible within the FiveM scripting API. Take a look at GTA RP servers like NoPixel, they've been pushing the limits so hard on a 13 year old game.

And the same API exists for Red Dead 2, which has a visual upgrade over the engine used for GTA V.

I don't know, I guess I'm expecting something to be wrong since it's very frequent and common nowadays for AAA games to ship broken and incomplete.

I hope I'm wrong, though.

xinayder··on How Europe is killing makers and micro-entrepreneurs
Even then, being allowed to ship and package in Germany may as well be valid for other EU countries? I mean, you register in a single country (ideally where your business is) and then the other countries can just accept your packaging bureaucracy?
xinayder··on OpenLogi
It's not virtue signalling but it shows that if the author of said software (if there's one) didn't bother to spend time writing things on the website, there's a correlation that they wouldn't bother spending time writing code either.

And that's what I see first thing on the repo. Lots of LLM-style writing in the README, which makes me think if this is a vibecoded app, which looks like it.

xinayder··on OpenLogi
Was there any AI used in either the website or the code itself? It looks like a product of AI and not man-made.
xinayder··on Attorney General seeks to block Discord in Brazil
Long story short, Brazil's First Lady suggested at a security meeting that Discord should be banned because of some obscure servers that promote self-harm and other type of violence, targeted at minors.

The Attorney General took her suggestion and plans to take Discord to court and block it, despite Discord having moderation systems in place and the First Lady and other politicians not knowing this was done in a private server which is almost impossible to moderate.

On the other hand, mainstream social media like WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram and Twitter are used daily by organized crime to post pictures and videos of murders, assassinations and other crimes they commit, and no one's asking these platforms to be banned or the very least that something be done to remove the offending content from there.

xinayder··on Show HN: Pokémon Emerald Ported to Raspberry Pi Pico 2
This. Project would look a lot more cooler if it was done by a human. It was vibecoded to hell and I can't find a note on the README that says it was vibecoded and/or assisted with LLM.
xinayder··on EU rules on AI models become enforceable. What's going to change?
As I said, and others pointed out:

quality regulations don't curtail innovation.

I repeat, if your business model (which like the big majority of the entrepreneurial world is based on) is against regulation, it's wrong.

I don't think it's acceptable to have a billionaire tech bro dictating everything I do in my life while he gets rich by selling my data. One of the reasons regulation exists is to protect customers.

It's about damn time the business world moved away from the capitalism mindset that you NEED to explore the consumer to be successful. We have a lot of examples in Europe where if the company is even a bit less shitty and is sympathetic to the customer, it increases trust and brings in more revenue because your customers trust it.

xinayder··on EU rules on AI models become enforceable. What's going to change?
There is no AI regulation in the US and look at where we are, everyone depends on it, SOTA models are doing CSAM and porn deepfakes, and there's no regulation in the US to prevent this from happening

nor there is regulation to inform a user something uses AI or the dangers of being dependent on this magical oracle.

xinayder··on EU rules on AI models become enforceable. What's going to change?
Or having mandatory security checks in place after frequent accidents on supersonic planes is bad...

The aviation industry must be one of the most regulated ones and it's entirely necessary to guarantee the safety of passengers and crew. You don't see anyone complaining about it except Boeing who failed QA in the past couple of years and killed some hundreds of people due to their oversight.

xinayder··on EU rules on AI models become enforceable. What's going to change?
If your sole business model depends on having no regulation then your business model is wrong and predatory.

Regulation doesn't hinder innovation, it's just that CEOs want that quick buck instead of being responsible and using regulation for their advantage.

xinayder··on Google will expand age checks on Android worldwide till the end of the year
The billionaires are pushing for identifying kids online for whatever reason, saying it's to "protect the kids" when we don't need Orwellian-level of surveillance.

We should counteract this by forbidding internet access to billionaires, or restricting it so much, so they can stop playing with something they don't understand.

xinayder··on Premier league bans gambling sponsors
Bets try to engage with the user, crypto ads don't have a call to action or journalists saying "hey you can get X BTC if you bet that there will be a red card in the next 5 minutes".

Can't we build a gateway in the internet that detects if someone is a influential CEO or something and just bar access to the internet?
xinayder··on Anthropic A.I. Model Finds Flaws in Tough-to-Crack Encryption Algorithms
Title reads "tough to crack" and the article literally says "weakened algorithms".
xinayder··on “We have information that Moonshot distilled Fable for the development of K3”
I wonder if this was caught with the malware code Anthropic included that detects if you're in China...

xinayder··on GitFut – Your GitHub stats turned into a World-Cup-style player card
The cards are not World Cup cards (I thought it was in the style of the Panini sticker album), and judging by the style of the whole website, it tells that this was vibecoded.
xinayder··on Opening up 'Zero-Knowledge Proof' technology to promote privacy in age assurance
For these things you listed what we have already is enough and works. We don't need to authenticate our ID with a 3rd party prone to data leaks, a simple person looking at our ID is good enough for a dealership.

Banks already verify your identity as well and don't require you to use a government app.

Law enforcement asks for your ID and check it with their database, which is already enough as well.

We don't need age attestation for accessing websites.

xinayder··on Opening up 'Zero-Knowledge Proof' technology to promote privacy in age assurance
From my limited knowledge of ZKP I believe there are protocols that don't allow token reuse, i.e., once you consume a token for one round, you cannot reuse it for another attestation.
xinayder··on Opening up 'Zero-Knowledge Proof' technology to promote privacy in age assurance
There is literally no way of us knowing if Google hasn't chosen to cheat during the ZKP protocol or not. Zero chance.
xinayder··on Opening up 'Zero-Knowledge Proof' technology to promote privacy in age assurance
We don't need age attestation or any kind of identity attestation, period.
xinayder··on Opening up 'Zero-Knowledge Proof' technology to promote privacy in age assurance
> Proper ZK proofs don’t work that way. N different proofs will not be linked to each other

in theory. How do you do that on paper? How do you "anonymize" this data, to make it so they aren't related to each other?

This is just like Facebook implementing the Signal protocol on WhatsApp. They technically can't access your messages, but they have all the metadata which most of the times will allow someone to infer the content of the conversation.

xinayder··on Opening up 'Zero-Knowledge Proof' technology to promote privacy in age assurance
How about not needing to do age verification?
xinayder··on Opening up 'Zero-Knowledge Proof' technology to promote privacy in age assurance
You also can't know if Google has broken any of the ZKP promises, or in terms of the field, if Google is cheating and uncovered the secret bits you shared.
