xf00ba7··on This architecture tastes like microarchitecture [pdf]
That's what I'm guessing too, something a bit like SPARC but more flexible. Seems you can get a data movement win if you don't mindlessly move the entire linux task struct on every swap.

Awesome Trump negotiating skills in action! Can't wait to see more cost cutting from POTUS.

In all seriousness though, the F-35 has cutting edge tech. So does HPC. The United States can't build the worlds most cutting edge supercomputer to benefit humanity (not even $1B invested), but we can sure as heck build something that kills people for 400x that. I'm not sure where our calculus went wrong, but somewhere things have gone horribly awry.

xf00ba7··on Broadband left out of infrastructure goals, and how the FCC wants to fix it
The question is....does the FCC really want to fix it?
xf00ba7··on Ask HN: What C++ parallelization framework do you use?
seems like OP wants something without explicit threads/locks if they mentioned Kokkos/OpenMP type constructs...just a hunch.
xf00ba7··on Obama Administration Halts Construction of Dakota Access Pipeline
I wonder how long this is actually going to last? A few months from now and I suspect there will be an entirely different view from the new administration.
xf00ba7··on Managing Parallel, Part 1
Very good write-up. From the linked paper, looks like variation matters far more at lower service times than longer ones. Definitely like the data-flow modality, not really sure how the really big-data data-flow packages embody actual data-flow semantics. Seems like most of the backing stores used for redundancy negate some of the benefits (but net you redundancy)
xf00ba7··on Broken link finder – Free and quick tool
Umm, can't you just use wget in spider mode? As in:

wget --spider --force-html -r <url goes here>

Seems that's much faster, easier? Could be missing something. Will this tool help me fix my broken links too??

xf00ba7··on American truck drivers could lose their jobs to robots
At some point everyone gets phased out. The question we should be asking, is how do we prepare to transition people from one job to the next more quickly. Coal miners are a perfect example. They're largely stuck. They haven't the money to send their kids to school to do something else, nor do they have the $$ to do it themselves (and likely not the time either). We need to rethink (as a planet), how we deal with churn.
xf00ba7··on Ask HN: What book have you given as a gift?
An imaginary tale, the story of sqrt( -1 ). link: http://press.princeton.edu/titles/9259.html. One of my favorites. Oh....also handed out the foundation series in combined hardback form to a few folks for the winter holiday. I loved that series as well. Thankfully so did the people I handed it out to.
xf00ba7··on Apple should stop selling four-year-old computers
You know, I've had Mac's that well...I have no idea when they'll die. They're all still going. My Apple IIlc is in fact still kicking. I have a 2007 MBP that runs like a champ (well, swapped in a SSD, but other than that...). The OS might have some features that make it tough for bleeding edge developers...but you know, for the most part people need those features (security, etc.). The Dell and Sony laptops I've had just don't hold up to constant use. Lenovo on the other hand was a different story. I loved their keyboards and the build quality is quite good, equivalent to Apple. Style though, until recently hasn't quite been up to the fruit standards.
