xeornet··on Physically healthy 28-year-old woman schedules euthanasia due to depression
That's one statistic - do we have any statistics around those that would take euthanasia if available but end up not committing suicide? No, we likely don't have those statistics but they are equally important to the equation here.
xeornet··on Physically healthy 28-year-old woman schedules euthanasia due to depression
If the downvoters would like to explain their opinion to the contrary, that would be great.
xeornet··on German state ditches Microsoft for Linux and LibreOffice
That’s because their primary setup is Microsoft based.

The opposite is true for Apple-first companies.

xeornet··on Physically healthy 28-year-old woman schedules euthanasia due to depression
Any citations for this? That’s an assumption.
xeornet··on Physically healthy 28-year-old woman schedules euthanasia due to depression
Totally agree.

It also begs the question, are the people in these situations even mentally fit enough to make the decision rationally? With the limited context I have, I don’t think so.

There’d also a lot of reliance on the doctor’s “its never going to get better” - yet time and time again with physical ailments we hear of the impossibility of recovery yet many do recover.

xeornet··on Tired of late messages from your boss? A new bill aims to make it illegal
Wow, glad to see California is focusing on it’s most pressing problems…
xeornet··on Ask HN: What's the worst that could have happened had xz gone unnoticed?
Risky Business is also great. Along with Malicious Life and Modem Mischief.

Now that we’ve run out of truly interesting hacks, the later episodes really aren’t too interesting. Fav episode is Knaves Out.
xeornet··on California fast-food workers will get $20 minimum wage, starting Monday
So upskill and get a better job? $1,000 to flip burgers? Ain’t no ROI - you’ll be replaced by a robot even quicker.
xeornet··on Sam Bankman-Fried sentenced to 25 years in prison
Sorry but you’re suggesting that the USA is the only country that gets punitive justice right?

Works pretty well out here in Australia, or much of Eastern Europe.

xeornet··on Hackers found a way to open any of 3M hotel keycard locks
The article explains that they were at a hackathon of sorts, where these 2 were specifically targeting the locks/passes.

I would assume reading the cards with a reader would be a great start.

xeornet··on FTX's Sam Bankman-Fried Should Serve 40 to 50 Years in Prison, Prosecutors Say
Agreed, not sure why you’re being downvoted. As if it’s your fault they weren’t jailed.
xeornet··on FTX's Sam Bankman-Fried Should Serve 40 to 50 Years in Prison, Prosecutors Say
Legal and right are also not the same thing. I hope laws changed as a result.
xeornet··on 'If anything happens, it's not suicide': Boeing whistleblower before death
So you’ve never made a comment about something in passing that turned out to be true? Completely reasonable for this to be said in conversation with a friend but not taken seriously enough to write it down.
xeornet··on Bay Area tech workers are seeing 'salary stagnation,' new report says
The employment market is very much a free market system right now. There is enough supply to meet the current demand and keep the existing inflated salaries. We seem to have reached an equilibrium.
xeornet··on One of world’s smallest fish found to make sound as loud as a gunshot
I think you may be onto something here.
xeornet··on Ask HN: What's your preferred tech stack for your side projects
Laravel - it’s awesome.
xeornet··on A simple DNS lookup tool
Also curious on this. Perhaps a mix of DNS and Route53?
xeornet··on A mistakenly published password exposed Mercedes-Benz source code
Sounds like he was just trying to guarantee a mention (advertising and clout) in the subsequent TechCrunch article…
xeornet··on France sees collapse in births to lowest since World War Two
The causes may be complex, the outcome however is extremely simple.

Worth noting that a few down votes have no reflection on the truth or accuracy of a particular comment, they are merely an expression of opinion and/or ignorance - in much the same way my comments are simply an opinion and/or ignorance.

xeornet··on France sees collapse in births to lowest since World War Two
It sure is! And we act as if talking about it is absolutely prohibited.
xeornet··on Why it's almost always a good thing when staff quit
It’s well known in the business acquisition space that family members will say they will stay just to close the deal.
xeornet··on Alaska 737 cockpit voice recorder data erasure renews safety debate
There's a key distinction between operating a vehicle for commercial purposes and a private operation, not just the ability to harm others. There's a reason why commercial pilots licences are in a completely different league in terms of training and responsibility to PPLs.
xeornet··on Alaska 737 cockpit voice recorder data erasure renews safety debate
Is this a bad thing, or will it simply lead to better communication about the tasks at hand? Genuinely curious on thoughts here.
xeornet··on Alaska 737 cockpit voice recorder data erasure renews safety debate
If I’m a taxi driver or school bus driver, yes!
xeornet··on Alaska 737 cockpit voice recorder data erasure renews safety debate
Precisely why the FAA should implement this and not leave it up to the airlines.
xeornet··on Bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki (2014)
It was used on cities full of civilians - and essentially just a show of force. That could have been done elsewhere, without the pure suffering caused. Justifying it as saving lives can be used ad nauseam for most wars, and pure propaganda. Would we justify Russias use of nuclear weapons on a Ukrainian city to stop the war "early"? We'd call it war crimes.
xeornet··on Show HN: Lander, a lunar lander style web game
It seems that higher refresh rate screens make this game significantly harder..
xeornet··on Twitter applies 7-day suspension to half a dozen journalists
Not sure what indications we have that Twitter is "going out". User numbers are higher than ever.

He unbanned a lot of people that were also banned previously for no reason. I think a lot of the outrage comes from the "unfairness" now being dished out to those people with whom the outraged agree with...

xeornet··on The $10m OMG Fund
AirBnb was about renting a spare room in someones house. Not saying anything bad about AirBnb, I love it and will continue using them.

There is a clear difference however between the $25k for 5 days kind of stays they are constantly promoting on their homepage, compared to their bread and butter apartments scattered across cities.
