xandrius··on Sudo – A dedicated music player designed around listening to music
Yep, just get some older mp3 players and done. No need dumb touch screens.

Zoo Code is so much better than CC that to me even using similar models I go for CC for simpler things and ZC for larger work.
xandrius··on Breaking Up with Google Play: Why Conversations Is Now Free
It's an absolutely fair argument and it just doesn't show great intelligence to go straight to namecalling rather than bringing up counter arguments.

I do believe that while Google and Apple are evil gatekeepers they also made it easier for non-tech people to install their own app without always calling their kids or neighbours. That's already a big win.

xandrius··on Tutoring company tells parents to save their money and 'use AI instead'
Thank you! This is exactly the experience I'd love to have. I'm not thinking of using home schooling as a shortcut for certain things or to avoid interactions. I am aware that I will have to be present and, as you said, meet them where they are and guide them through it.

One question: how did you find tutors and were they meeting physically or also online? And what subjects did you find needing tutoring?

xandrius··on Tutoring company tells parents to save their money and 'use AI instead'
You only know what you experience.

My schooling was alright but I can imagine a much better version given different circumstances.

xandrius··on Tutoring company tells parents to save their money and 'use AI instead'
I would love to home school my future (not yet born) kids, how did you get started? Any tips? Recommendations? Etc.
xandrius··on Claude Code reads AGENTS.md only when telemetry is on [fixed]
Don't you run bizantine ralph loops on remote environments with codex security checks, coupled with jev, grok, open router and a fully independent openclaw (on a maxed out mac mini inside a caveau in an undisclosed location, with open telegram) to change constants? You're going to be left behind.
xandrius··on AI-generated posters don’t have to be horrible
False dichotomy, there is not just slop or hand-made.
xandrius··on AI-generated posters don’t have to be horrible
Putting yourself (and others) into a very defined box does good to nobody. There are many programmers who at artistic as there are great artists who are also good programmers, I found what matters (for the most part) is where one decides to put their "care stats points", do you put all your care in learning Assembly and nothing else? Well, you'll probably be good at that and not much else, if you put an even slight amount of care into design decisions (however small), thinking a bit before doing something different and you'll improve at an ever increasing rate.
xandrius··on War may be coming. Are we psychologically ready?
It is incorrect to blame everything onto some entity, otherwise we'll miss the real things due to being desensitised. It's a version of boy who cried wolf but crying Russia.

xandrius··on How much of F-Droid is LLM generated?
Is the goal solving a problem or spending time over it?

Because then why do you ride a vehicle when you could walk?

Why do you use fire when a well-positioned mirror with sun could do?

Why a piezo ignition or lighter when a stick and lots of friction would do as well?

xandrius··on How much of F-Droid is LLM generated?
I'm pretty sure you used chat gpt when it came out and literally stopped looking then.

GPT 5.6 sol and Astra can now one shot incredible stuff.

xandrius··on How much of F-Droid is LLM generated?
Only people disliking AI for coding are the gatekeepers who think they are magicians and the plebs shouldn't be able to code like them, unless they become gud.
xandrius··on Romania soccer introduces black card to 'combat abusive behaviour' from parents
Did you really pull the "slippery slope" on a change for children football matches to safeguarding them from abuse from spectators?

Micologist with a microscope?
xandrius··on Shopify is moving from React Native back to Swift and Kotlin
We believed that the craft was typing the code while the real skill is to create something solving someone's problem. Whether that's done by punching holes in cards, writing esoteric letter combinations decided back in the 80s or using any natural language I so wish, to me it's the same. I just like getting there faster and while I'm grabbing a cup of tea.
xandrius··on Ask HN: Resources to get good at soldering?
Nope 350-375C. You want to have higher temperature on the tip to be able to melt it reliably.

Look it up, also I discovered that 350C is not double as hot as 175C, actually just 25% more.

xandrius··on Ask HN: Resources to get good at soldering?
Just FYI, the general suggested temperature for 60/40 is 375C. So 400 is not too far off.
xandrius··on Ask HN: Resources to get good at soldering?
This is a great example of ELI mirmor23.
xandrius··on Ask HN: Resources to get good at soldering?
That link is unfortunately quite useless, link doesn't work.
xandrius··on Ask HN: Resources to get good at soldering?
And in between? Also what would I really need it for?

I mainly do ESP circuits and stuff like that, would I ever need anything other than a multimeter if your opinion?

It was just less of everything than Chrome. First install experience for an average user was much better in terms of speed and snappiness. That was one of the keys to its success.
