wuwuno··on The reason Zoom calls drain your energy – BBC Worklife
Video is the problem.

I worked at one of the earliest IP based Video Conferencing companies back in the early 90's. The video wore us out. We did video all the time for 3 years.

I've been working from home consistently since 2008, 3 different companies, and we never use video, it's all audio conferencing, except maybe for an all hands meeting where the company leaders are talking about something important.

If find video tiring and a waste of time. The video isn't good enough, or big enough to pick up facial "clues", and since people aren't in the same room body language is totally different.

Turn off the video everyone, and you'll be much happier.

Get a really good stereo wireless headset, that way you don't need to worry about feedback or sounding like you are in an echo chamber. My headset lets me roam all around my house, and since it's stereo I can listen to music between meetings.

IV Sodium Ascorbate?

Talking to an MD about IV Sodium Ascorbate, now he's really going to think that you are crack pot. I trust Linus Pauling more than I trust anyone else, but still.... :-)

But you haven't given us any information, or helped to educated anyone, other than to tell us that you have a degree.

My wife's oncologist has a degree, but I had spend 2 hours arguing with her before she realized that she was making a fundamental error in diagnosing my wife's cancer, a fundamental error she had been making for the last 10 years.

My wife has a PhD in Biochemistry, the Oncologist was a well known and highly respected physician, and I was just a guy with a Computer Science degree, but I was the only one to figure it out.

wuwuno··on Things That Turbo Pascal Is Smaller Than (2011)
Wrote a program to manage the sale and rental of video tapes for an small business. I wrote it in 1984, using Turbo Pascal. The last time I checked the store was still running the same software in 2005.

The application was table driven, all important configuration items were stored in a text file as a key-value pair. It had a bar-code scanner and was tied into a cash drawer. Receipts were printed on small dot matrix printer.

It took about 4 weeks to write.

The best programming environment ever.

wuwuno··on The global oil market is broken, drowning in crude nobody needs
Saudi Arabia, our ally, is working hard to completely destroy the U.S. Shale Oil industry, as well as the Russian Oil industry, and every other oil producing country in the world.

The cost to produce oil in Saudi Arabia is about $6 a barrel and they are taking this opportunity to undermine everything. Only Iraq is close in cost to produce oil as the Saudi's, and the U.S. has worked to make sure that Iraq is not a threat to the Saudi's.

wuwuno··on The U.S. government couldn’t shut down the Internet, right? Think again
It's a nice click bait article, it isn't explicitly mentioned the article but it's implied that if the COVID-19 got out of hand the government could shutdown the Internet. It can't happen in the U.S.

There is too much critical infrastructure that relies on the Internet, and I'm not talking about Government stuff, I mean water utilities, electric utilities, gas utilities, finance, and not their SCADA systems, but their ERP systems, finance systems, etc. Almost all B to B commerce runs across the Internet. I'm sure there are still some hold over dinosaurs, but most things traverse the Internet.

Trump is doing everything he can to placate big business and the stock market. If he were to turn off the Internet he would stop almost all U.S. Businesses, it would be like driving into a 30 ft thick concrete wall at 180 MPH.

Turning off the Internet would also cause a public panic of epic proportions, taking a bad situation and making it so much worse.

I created a throwaway account because, well you'll see why.

My wife just told me that two of her co-workers were in Wuhan in Late November visiting a factory and they both got the flu in Wuhan.

One guy A, tested negative for the flu, he was sick for 6 weeks, he would start to feel better than get sicker. His doctor told him that he had no idea what was wrong with him. The guy A, said it was the strangest flu he ever had. Over the 6 weeks he was sick he worked from home the entire time and was only working part time for most of those 6 weeks because of how bad he felt.

The other guy B, I don't know if B was tested for the flu, was sicker than A, and he was sick for 8 weeks. He also worked from home for the entire time, my wife doesn't work closely with B, so she's not sure how much time he missed during those 6 weeks.
