wtphilip··on Ask HN: Why do people think that our in-game item exchange is for NFTs?
Thanks for sharing. Cool to know that you worked on exactly such a system. It seems like the story and offering is difficult, due to the history and experiences people have made with such systems. And just saying that somebody is different does not help.

Many things you have written are challenges that we are aware and have been working on. Compliance is crucial here. And on so many different levels as you have mentioned.

We have a license as financial intermediary in Switzerland, which means that we do KYC and we have processes in place to ensure that we comply with anti-money laundering regulation. This was a long way, but it was crucial to offer a real escrow experience, so that it is real P2P and trading experience and not just a fancy store front. And we cannot offer certain items, as this would fall under gambling laws and we do not have any license for this (yet).

Regarding studios: Yes, the value does not lie in the trading for publishers. Trading per se does not add value to publishers. This is relevant for the different types of gamers. We have talked to a few publishers and found out that they are more interested in the trading data, so they can better price their content as well as define new content (i.e. items) that could be created. This way, they can monetize with content that people are ready to pay for.

Thanks for sharing all these hurdles. We'll have to solve all of them. From what we are hearing, we are close to it, though.

Thank you so much for your comment. This is super helpful and a great point. I am taking this to the rest of the team to see how we can solve this without running into copyright issues.

Funny that you say that I will have "less people screaming at you" as it seems to be a very delicate topic for gamers.

Regarding the philosophical level: It would be, if it was adopted in larger games. I haven't seen any large publisher adopt NFT, yet. This might change though. Hard to say.

Highly appreciate your feedback.

I have traded skins and other in-game items in different games for a while. Now, I don't have enough time for the grind. So yes, I am one of those people who openly admits that I pay to progress and be able in joining raids in WoW and other MMORPGs.

I have searched for different platforms, but all have a bad experience or I was scammed, if I did not really know the other trading partner. This is why I think that we need a financial intermediary.

I came across a startup working on exactly this. They asked me, whether I wanted to join and I did. Now, if you are a gamer and a trader, what are games you want to see listed on here? Check out the site with the games. You can find a form there, where you can tell us what we should list next.

Hmm, looks useful. Isn't there an easier way without using additional tools.
wtphilip··on Ask HN: How was your experience buying a SaaS company/service from a platform?
Hmmm, looks like a company owning and buying SaaS companies. Not selling them, right?

Great feedback, thank you so much. We need to figure out how to fix this first, because it seems to be a mobile and Safari problem. Are you having the same issues with other browsers?

Yes, sorry, that's my mistake. I wasn't able to delete this one. The URL was missing for users to actually land on the landing page directly.

wtphilip··on Ask HN: My company is being acquired. How can I maximize my upside as an IC?
Based on the $, I guess you are in the US, but in which state is your company registered? Every state has different laws that protect minority shareholders. Often, as minority shareholder, you are protected by law and you rarely have to sell your shares, if you don't want to. BUT as the legal system goes - and it is very complex in the US - there are more exceptions and loopholes than there are rules. You need to know your share agreement and all provisions as well as your state's law. Depending on the state and the form of the acquisition, certain states like Delaware and Texas allow it that minority shareholders can be forced out of the company (https://smallbusiness.chron.com/force-shareholder-sell-stock...).

Normally, you should first talk to the majority shareholders. Then talk to management, because they only act on behalf of the majority shareholder (I assume they are the same in your case). You could mention that it is your right to know. If they are still not transparent, try talking to a lawyer or somebody that you know has a similar contract in the same state and industry as you.

FYI: I am not a lawyer and this is no legal advice :)
