> AI boosted homework scores, then exam scores dropped

This didn't need a study, it's 2+2

wseqyrku··on I'm becoming AI-blind
If you ever meet someone you knew from an online community it's a blast. Now reverse that: you know somebody IRL and find their twitter account, and it's a fucking nightmare. Like you are looking inside their brain's content and it just collapses the image you had in mind of their personality.

AI is surfacing layers you never had a chance to see, makes you rethink your career path and who you are willing to work with very fast.

Now you sound like aligned AI — I get it
wseqyrku··on Why aren't smart people happier? (2022)
You can be angry all the time. I do this and it works out great since I don't have to explain myself anymore, everyone can totally just fuck off.
wseqyrku··on There's no such thing as a small software team anymore
Imo it should be against the social rules to fuck people over.
wseqyrku··on I don't think AI is a bubble
> AI can write much more code than it was possible

Code's utility was never meant to be measured by quantity. Everybody were on board on this when some managers started to count commits and realized that's stupid. They need a quick reminder again.

wseqyrku··on As More Americans Turn to Cannabis, Problem Use Is Increasing
If you are smoking everyday, what are you even doing, it will be just as effective as very expensive cigarettes. If you actually want it to count for something take a tbreak and then keep it on the low.
wseqyrku··on American AI May Not Survive Chinese Open-Source
What stops them to release their models as well? Not asking if greed has limits, it doesn't, I'm talking about a sensible business model that all things being equal consumers can decide for themselves if they want to use a domestic product or not which at that point, why not.
wseqyrku··on Why aren't smart people happier? (2022)
I suspect it's because they can see through all the bullshit but can't do much about it because being smart is not enough and actually makes you feel helpless and inconsequential.
wseqyrku··on There's no such thing as a small software team anymore
> but why would I want to run more agents?

Notice how difficult it is to turn off photo bursts in iPhone? Because that free cloud space needs to be filled fast. So ask your question again and you will find the answer very rapidly. They even gave it a cool name, "tokenmaxxing" what even the fuck.

wseqyrku··on Don't Paste the AI, please
> Don't Paste the AI, please

You're gonna need a stronger language. Why do you think people love AI? If I have to think and god forbid read the response I might as well live in the woods or something

That prefix is dead and has lost its meaning. Now you gotta completely avoid it to stand out.
wseqyrku··on Devices with GrapheneOS support should be available in 2027
There are things that you just can't do with wasm. wasi was designed to fill the gap. If you can remember, wasi was all the craze right before AI came out and suddenly it just faded in the background.
wseqyrku··on Devices with GrapheneOS support should be available in 2027
You know the web is also bits and bytes right? Someone who has a say should fix it so banks can do whatever they need right in the browser.
wseqyrku··on Devices with GrapheneOS support should be available in 2027
I can't care less about "apps". Web is already powerful enough to do all sort of stuff on device.

That said, I think wasi containers support for a mobile OS would be a game changer.

(^ Here's a startup idea if you're looking out for one. I for one throw out all my devices from the balcony to get this)

wseqyrku··on Why does everyone hate data centers?
Oh yeah, you did put it there. I am doing this right now, look.

> The point is that being the intermediary [..] is the valuable expertise

Yeah, all those intermediary businesses must be eliminated first and foremost if you want a better internet space. The current state of affairs is the direct product of just too many intermediaries sucking money out of both ends that could be spent on quality of service, which leads to lower prices, which leads to a healthier market overall.

wseqyrku··on Google is making private AI practical with homomorphic encryption
It's "private" "cloud" computing all over again, this time brought to you by jensen et al.

wseqyrku··on CEO who fired 900 people on Zoom just before Christmas wants his job back
I noticed that the framing you subconsciously leave out because it's clear as day in your own mind (eg mass layoffs are freaking insane) will change the entire message you are trying to communicate and you won't be able to get it across without taking some (potentially) undeserved punches, but punches nonetheless. Doesn't always work because you can never fully anticipate what either side is assuming to begin with.
wseqyrku··on The End of Mathematics

Thanks to AI, right now there's more mathematicians in software business than developers. And some of them actually used to be developers. Or managers.

I couldn't believe programming has become all strings either. In the olden days it was either a code smell or compiler tests.
wseqyrku··on CEO who fired 900 people on Zoom just before Christmas wants his job back
I'm surprised, is all. Mass layoffs are going on for a couple years. I couldn't figure out why it is only making noise now? It's possible I wasn't paying attention before. I only heard from people who were laid off themselves and were pissed off, all the while everyone else were acting like it's how things are done, get over it.

I think I expected a harder backlash than any of this, it does work surprisingly well with large companies. That must cause them to avoid overhiring or risk their entire reputation if they dare to consider mass layoffs, not a readily available option that they can play whenever they want.
