wrx100··on Ask HN: 36 years old, no skills, no job – what can I learn?
I usually advise friends and family to try what they already know first if they are out of work.

Is there any way you can contract to other biotechs to put out their fires? Can you start a business as a supplier of contractors or other services and products to the biotech industry? Are there any other inefficiencies in the biotech industry that you can exploit by setting up a company?

Walking used to be safer (and more convenient) where I live and work. And now with reckless scooter riders there seems to be no escape.

If you close all the ports you do not use and properly configure all services that listen on the ports that you do use, should you care? Should you bother with black holing, port knockers, non-standard port or even firewalls for that matter? Honest question
wrx100··on How many jacaranda trees are there in Sydney?
Jacarandas were brought from South America. Reputedly the first Jacaranda tree grown in Australia is/was in the Brisbane City Botanic Gardens.
wrx100··on Lightweight Linux Distributions for Older PCs
Last time I used NetBSD I was building my own packages (and the OS itself) from source (http://www.netbsd.org/docs/software/packages.html). This was encouraged at the time. You could tweak them with various options and also contribute to the effort (https://www.pkgsrc.org/wip/).

I did install pkgsrc on Ubuntu to get around snap but building anything took such a long time even on modern hardware. But that was building all the dependencies from scratch. After that it should take less time.

Building from source can take hours or even days on low-end machines though, unless you can get binaries for the apps you need for your old CPUs.

Does this mean I can now use all/lots of Racket libs in Chez?
