wouterinho··on Gawker is in the process of emailing its users about the compromise.
They answered:

"We are in the process of sending out emails to all ~1.5m users affected. Unfortunately, sending out that many emails is not a simple process."

I think MailChimp/Campaign Monitor/SendGrind should be able to handle a 1.5M volume quite nicely.

wouterinho··on Salesforce Buys Heroku (YC W08) For $212 Million In Cash
I imagine YC's share will have been diluted quite a bit, but no doubt it's a great ROI.
wouterinho··on Salesforce Buys Heroku (YC W08) For $212 Million In Cash
Biggest YC exit so far?
wouterinho··on IPhone: 4% of market, 50% of profit
Does this include Apple's revenue share deals with the operators or is it just phone sales?
wouterinho··on New EC2 Features: Tagging, Idempotency, Filtering, Bring Your Own Keys
Sorry, I meant the IAM Management Console. Any chance this will be released soon?
wouterinho··on New EC2 Features: Tagging, Idempotency, Filtering, Bring Your Own Keys
Good stuff, I think tagging was long overdue. Hopfully they will release IAM (http://aws.amazon.com/iam) to the public soon as well.
wouterinho··on Blurrypeople.com - strangers you might actually like
There's this Dutch dating site Paiq that has the same technique. When chatting with someone, their profile picture gets unblurred after talking a while and hitting their interest words (eg "watching movies"). It lets you focus less on photos and more on personality.
wouterinho··on Java zero-day flaw under active attack
According to the advisory at http://seclists.org/fulldisclosure/2010/Apr/119:

"All versions since Java SE 6 update 10 for Microsoft Windows are believed to be affected by this vulnerability. Disabling the java plugin is not sufficient to prevent exploitation, as the toolkit is installed independently."

Harmless demonstration at http://lock.cmpxchg8b.com/bb5eafbc6c6e67e11c4afc88b4e1dd22/t...

wouterinho··on This week, I employed 1052 people..
http://oneframeoffame.com. It's a pretty catchy song as well!
wouterinho··on HN Meet-up Netherlands
I would love to meet some Dutch HN-ers! I'm also in Amsterdam.
wouterinho··on IBM's infamous "Black Team" (2002)
"Some individuals even grew long mustaches which they would twirl with melodramatic flair as they savaged a programmer's code."

Love it!

wouterinho··on New Amazon EC2 Feature: Boot from Elastic Block Store
EBS costs $0.10 per GB and $0.10 per million I/O requests. Any ideas how much it would cost per month to replace a "normal" AMI (which is free) with an EBS-backed one like this?
wouterinho··on Secret compartments
Content aside, surely I'm not the only one annoyed by having to click 7 times to see the whole "article"?
wouterinho··on PPK: "Apple is not evil. iPhone developers are stupid."
PPK is an idealist. Applications need to make money. Web applications on the iPhone are slow and have less functionality so they make less money.
wouterinho··on Dirty Little Secret of Success
I think it all boils down to a certain "I'll show them" personality trait that acts as a catalyst when confronted with agony, ridicule, betrayal, lack of recognition, etc.
wouterinho··on Mars and Moon Are Out of NASA's Reach for Now, Review Panel Says
I guess these are nations that have something to prove in this area, especially China and India. Putting a man on Mars will certainly confirm you to the general world population as a "real" new dominant power.
wouterinho··on Job description written in Ruby
I like their puzzle at the bottom and the subsequent page. I for one really like pomegranates.
wouterinho··on YikeBike
First thing that came to my mind as well. I like the foldable functionality though. In Amsterdam there are a lot of people using folding bikes. They commute to Amsterdam by train taking their bikes and then use the bike to get into the city. Works pretty well, but it still looks kind of silly.
wouterinho··on The bar for success in our industry is too low
The argument is that proper credits should be given to companies once they make that switch from getting traction to actually make money. Currently, media and blogs more and more name a company successful when they have traction, but not yet make money.

I tend to agree with the statements made in the blogpost.
