worthless-trash··on LeCun has "zero concerns" about AI wiping out humanity, recent "rogue" incidents
He needs to dream a little bigger darling. Hes not thinking evil enough.
worthless-trash··on PS5 Relapse Exploit
Yes. But that is work, time and money.

They don't want to sacrifice any of that.

We have had very... different experiences with stadia. It was not at all useful gor low latency games..

It is not suitable for competition ranked players. The average player will stomp over high ranked players.

There is no violence, because the pinata is not alive.

There is no more violence in hitting a nail with a hammer.

worthless-trash··on Ask HN: 3.5 inch diskette read errors, would a period correct drive do better?
It may be easier, instead of a serial cable, use a IDE hard disk drive.

You can still purchase IDE USB caddies for your modern system to write to.

worthless-trash··on Leaving VMware just got harder after Broadcom pulled VDDK downloads
Libvirt isn't even difficult, were they trying ?
worthless-trash··on Ask HN: Fable hacked my piano, can I release the results?
Don't get me wrong, they absolutely can DMCA you if the hosting is in a foreign country iirc.

I was under the impression thr prescedant was:

Data Access Corporation v Powerflex Services Pty Ltd (1999), alongside specific provisions in the Copyright Act 1968.

The australian DMCA is called the TPM, it's more aimed at Bypassing, decrypt, or circumvent a digital lock or DRM (Digital Rights Management) protecting copyrighted material.

I do not think that phantom notes are encryption or rights management.

If you do your hosting in australia for your code/software, the US companies will probably have a bad time trying to convince the australian courts that access is the same as copyright infringement.

I'm not a lawyer, but i'll be damned if the 'vibe of it' shouldn't be a legal defense.

worthless-trash··on Ask HN: Fable hacked my piano, can I release the results?
You publish it as the organ-guy piano system for a virtual piano that you've lost the code for.

On a serious note: reverse engineering is legal in australia, even for DMCA violations.

why are you on hn, you are billing in 6 minute increments!

There is just.. so many.
worthless-trash··on Ex-Crips leader found guilty in 1996 murder of rapper Tupac Shakur
Right, so we need to utterly destroy people doing civil violence, or it'll ripple out quicker.

Lets just cull the bottom 2% of offenders this decade, and see its long term effects.

worthless-trash··on The turbulent AI era is here
Up front, thank you for the civil discussion.

I'm not doubting that it can be done on the small scale. I just dont think it can be done on any large scale. You kinda skipped over what I stated.

There isnt a way to distribution of shelter, food and storage on the scale required with the collapsing tech tree that will happen when UBI is across the board.

The same factory that creates the plastic extrusions for the dog bowl are the ones that make it for the compost toilet. (Yes, Ive used a real outback dunny), even that has a tech tree that is outside of the basic requirements you've understood.

This doesn't go into the issues that will happen when the tech and delivery tree of things as simple as insulin happen. Every parent I know is going to get back into those three jobs to save their kid, its not even a question.

I have serious concern that the "UBI will work" attitude will be successful, it sounds great short term and if we as a society adopt it, and it fails (it will) we've fucked humanity for the rest of time.

Unless every citizen in every country adopts it, those who maintain their military machine will dominate the rest of the planet so easily it would be finished up in a year.

This passive position is a luxury that certain western countries have.

I appreciate.
worthless-trash··on The turbulent AI era is here
I keep hearing these, but i find it so hard to connect reality to what you're saying.

All of your ideas sound great, I doubt they work. I fear you misunderstand the complexity tech tree required to deliver this utopia you desire. There is too much work required that won't be being done, "with ai" and "with robotics" , of which they have thier own tech and resource trees of dependencies.

If people are not paying for the resources (and how will they, since on ubi there is no requirement to deliver value) robots wont be made, and you're back to caveman development.

I'm happy to debate this, but I just feel the whole arguement of -it will just happen- is incredible wishful thinking.

worthless-trash··on The turbulent AI era is here
It doesn't matter if its cheap, the economy requires monetary exchange. What work are people doing that would balance out the work to build composting systems, infrastructure needs, batteries, solar, wheat, 'wild boar' (protip, there isnt enough without farming, I hunt). All of these things you've stated require a long chain of manufacturing, none of which are free. The systems themselves are incredibly complex and require hard human work.

Can you explain to me how any of this is possible under the constraints you've made. I can only see regression not an evolution or an improvement.

> we already have funds and productivity to feed and shelter everyone.

Where ? who ?

worthless-trash··on Stop Making TUIs
you miss the point entirely bro.
worthless-trash··on Stop Making TUIs
gtk1/gtk2/gtk3 code will require you shipping gtk(version) on modern linux, not all distros have the legacy libraries.

Apple deprecated carbon (which was a thing when gtk1 was around). I don't think you have an option for this on their ARM hardware.

QT1->N code has the same problem, the older libraries are not shipped on most modern linux.

I do absolutely understand if you're going to do static compiles, that can work around that problem, but that arguement nullifies everything, since you can run/write/execute anything in a turing complete system, if you complain you're just not dedicated enough.

worthless-trash··on Why Target Common Lisp for Code Generation?
I think it will hit up the cache.

If it exists, Python simply returns the existing module object from memory. It completely ignores the file on disk.

worthless-trash··on Why Target Common Lisp for Code Generation?
The problem is that people think 'python-like' repl is equivalent to CL's repl.

In my limited experience, the 'pairness' part of pair programming , is best done in silence. The discussion / planning happens up front, the keyboard person does the implementation and the second person doesn't 'backseat drive', but thinks about test cases (writes it down), thinks about weaknesses (writes it down) and writes documentation while the code is written.

All of these are reviewed before commit.

The 'interrupting' while coding is the shitty part (I agree with you), not having someone working with you.

worthless-trash··on Canceling "Hey"
I never said they were collectively guilty. that was on you. You assigned them all as guilty.

> and it's a complete nonsense to blame and persecute the whole ethnic group

Cultures exist in ethnic groups, I don't know what to say. If you don't believe this, you're being intentionally obstuse.

> In general, in the year 2026 we should know better than to assign collective guilt.

Again, that was you.

> If you really want to understand an issue in depth.

I only get to see what I'm presented. I don't even know how to identify what they look like. They do appear to look like every day people in the youtube videos. They usually speak the language, but people point them out as being a problem.

That is not a "me" problem, that is a PR problem. Now that I think about it, i don't think I've ever seen a positive video about gypsies on the net.

worthless-trash··on SQLite Critical CVEs or LLM Slop?
> What do you mean?

No analysis is being done in the linux kernel to assess vulnerability.

> It isn't a DoS to assign every single bug fix a CVE!

On people who care about this, it is, not in the project itself though.

> Every single bug is making someone vulnerable in some way.

Not every bug is making someone vulnerable. (docs bugs, test bugs) behavioral changes, performance improvements, the list goes on.
