worried_citizen··on Juniper Networks will drop code tied to National Security Agency
I expect dual_ec to live with us for quite a bit longer, despite the fact that the NIST stopped recommending it. It's just a matter of applying the right leverage to US companies.

"Meets all NIST SP800-90A standards"

Can you spot which product has the back door?

worried_citizen··on Silicon Valley's Soft Landing
> That appears to be an understatement. Square, which filed to go public Wednesday, said that it has lost a grand total of $71 million from processing Starbucks payments over the past three years.

This partner overall sounds better for sbux.

worried_citizen··on Here’s $100. Can you win $800M at Powerball?
I can't say if a TRNG has a better chance, but I don't think I'm leaping too far to say a broken, predictable RNG has a _worse_ chance of winning.

Do you have a source for this? I'm extremely curious. Random number generation is a fun problem.

I recently purchased a OneRNG trng and decided to give it a chance at guessing the right number with its quantum-noise super powers. Reading from it overnight produced 24 million guesses and no winner. Though several were just one number off. Too bad so sad.

I'm really curious what RNG the registers use when people say "let the computer guess for me". I'm pretty sure they don't all have a TRNG installed on the circuit...

worried_citizen··on How to crawl a quarter billion webpages in 40 hours (2012)
Web crawling is just like most things: 80% of the results for 20% of the work. It's always the last mile that takes the most significant cost and engineering effort.

as your index and scale grow you bump into the really difficult problems:

1. How do you handle so many DNS requests/sec without overloading upstream servers?

2. How do you discover and determine the quality of new links? It's only a matter of time until your crawler hits a treasure trove of spam domains.

3. How do you store, update, and access an index that's exponentially growing?

Just some ideas.

worried_citizen··on Storing Passwords in a Highly Parallelized World
Can someone help me understand why the author of the python library chose to raise an exception on verification failures as opposed to returning false?
worried_citizen··on Netflix Is Now Available Around the World
AFAIK all of the smart TV apps worked but wouldn't let you sign-up or stream.
worried_citizen··on Netflix Is Now Available Around the World
Along the same line of questioning what's to stop Netflix from packing up bags and moving to GCE/Azure?
worried_citizen··on Non-volatile Storage: CPUs no longer more performant than I/O devices
Fedora and centos are effectively the same OS with different release goals. You should be able to do anything on either unless you need truly cutting edge.
worried_citizen··on Netflix comes to India
Honest question, what are commercial interruptions like in India? Here in the US it's almost unbearable once you get used to Netflix/SVOD. Streaming has permanently changed what I'm willing to watch and commercials are a killer.
