Sadly it wasn't Max Headroom. How hackable is the EBS?
workerIbe··on 900 out of 1000 people say a car is blue, what's the probability it is blue?
In that case I would trust the math, but I'd suggest that first we somehow classify the complexity of the scenarios before we jump straight to "9 out of 10 respondents voted "fake news" therefore it is fake news".
workerIbe··on 900 out of 1000 people say a car is blue, what's the probability it is blue?
I don't know, perhaps the car is cyan, perhaps it is painted with a 3 stage pearl and most viewed from the same direction. Most people are not very sophisticated in their discerning of color. I cannot trust that the author is certain that the car is blue to start with. Pure statistics are not enough here.
workerIbe··on Why people believe in conspiracy theories – and how to change their minds
Conspiracies can be entertaining, one's own living "thriller". Some conspiracies are true. Obsessing on them can be negative, one should be honest when assessing probability. They should not affect the psyche at lower than some pretty high threshold. I read a lot of Patterson, the plots seem pretty fantastical, then a private sub Captain cuts a reporter into pieces and buries her at sea...
workerIbe··on Biggest amateur-built sub sinks – owner is suspected of killing passenger
Does he have a "Captain Nemo" complex? Would allow for all kinds of fantastical plots.

I honestly cannot understand your sentiment, how can knowing something you are interested in exists be worse than not knowing at all?

workerIbe··on Scientists Design Solar Cell That Captures Nearly All Energy of Solar Spectrum
I got mine from a recycler, he said they failed inspection after installation for scuffs and scratches. Mine produce very close to spec. I have read that most panels degrade at about 1% per year, the ones I got were 3 years old. I checked them all to see that the open voltage was close to the specs when I got them, worked out great.
workerIbe··on Scientists Design Solar Cell That Captures Nearly All Energy of Solar Spectrum
Yes, most of the electricity I have generated has been what would have been tier 2 @ $.26 kWh, with the climate stuff going thru Sacramento atm I expect the price to go even higher soon.
workerIbe··on Scientists Design Solar Cell That Captures Nearly All Energy of Solar Spectrum
I have built a system that cost just under $2k and should pay off in about 3-4 years (depending on battery lifetime). 2.4 Kw (8 panels) of used panels @ $.32/Watt, Charge controller, 3Kw inverter, transfer switch and 320ah@48v used Golf Cart Batteries. System is offgrid and supplies all my convenience outlets, kitchen and 240v circuits are on still on the grid. Panels are on top of free standing structures and being off grid permits are not required and only the transfer switch installation needed to be done by an electrician. Bonus is being offgrid it acts as a big UPS in a power failure.
workerIbe··on Echo devices are Amazon Prime Day’s best sellers
I don't know if I'd call it usefull but get 4 or 5 people playing DJ while drinking and it can be amusing for a while.
workerIbe··on Echo devices are Amazon Prime Day’s best sellers
I was too, they are under gaming tech or something. I found 3 but 2 were super wide aspect and the other wasn't a deal I couldn't beat any other day.
workerIbe··on Before 1948, LA's Power Grid Ran at 50hz
I wish we still had these. I run half my house "off grid", my inverter is putting out 61Hz and my old digital alarm clock runs fast.
workerIbe··on An easter egg for one user: Luke Skywalker
Sure, I agree, but an emotional quote on any given day probably isn't a good basis for an arguement.

workerIbe··on Node v8.1.2
Definitely something to the addage "if it ain't broke don't fix it". Some of our less critical modules are set to latest others are updated with care. Our modules are not under source control so are refreshed on deployment. We use Snyk to monitor for vulnerabilities, works pretty well.
