wordofx··on Valve conquered PC gaming – what comes next?
How was it a game changer? We had handheld gaming units before steam deck and the rig ally outsells the steam deck.
wordofx··on Valve conquered PC gaming – what comes next?
Everyone has upgraded from windows 10 with the exception of like 3 people who are the same people who stayed on windows XP until their favourite game didn’t run on it.
wordofx··on My open source project was relicensed by a YC company [license updated]
No. YC just throws money at the wall and sees what sticks. They fund some trash, and trash people.
wordofx··on I scanned all of GitHub's "oops commits" for leaked secrets
Congrats on commenting without reading the article.
wordofx··on ICEBlock, an app for anonymously reporting ICE sightings, goes viral
No they won’t. Planting evidence is so uncommon it’s hilarious you even make such an absurd claim.
wordofx··on Huawei releases an open weight model trained on Huawei Ascend GPUs
And the spying they have been doing.
wordofx··on IDF officers ordered to fire at unarmed crowds near Gaza food distribution sites
“I have no argument so I’ll downvote and leave” haha typical HN mentality.
wordofx··on LetsEncrypt – Expiration Notification Service Has Ended
Irrelevant.
wordofx··on LetsEncrypt – Expiration Notification Service Has Ended
It has nothing to do with complexity.

> Providing expiration notification emails means that we have to _retain millions of email addresses_ connected to issuance records. As an organization that _values privacy_, removing this requirement is important to us.

A mailing list. Is still retaining emails somewhere. Doesn’t matter if it’s stored in a text file on a usb drive in a vault. It’s still retaining an email list.

wordofx··on IDF officers ordered to fire at unarmed crowds near Gaza food distribution sites
> that would endanger our existence

> citing security concerns

If your neighbour keeps throwing stones at you and you agree to not throw stones, they continue to throw stones. You would probably not support any of their wishes.

wordofx··on IDF officers ordered to fire at unarmed crowds near Gaza food distribution sites
Palestine has had many opportunities for statehood. Current President of Israel is not completely opposed to statehood, citing security concerns which are clearly valid considering Palestine has repeatedly broken cease fire agreements and Hamas entire goal is to eradicate Israel. They are not being treated as sub-human. Remember Israel warns Palestine of air strikes. There have been many reports of Hamas refusing to allow people to leave sites that are targeted for the sole purpose of of martyrdom. The only people being exterminated is the terrorist Organization Hamas.

All 4 bullet points are either completely false or misleading.

wordofx··on Ask HN: What useful AI tools do you use every day?
Wow it’s amazing how hacker news which is primarily filled with technology type people has no few using ai or has no idea what they are doing with ai.

The saying "Can't see the forest for the trees" really makes a lot of sense now.

wordofx··on OpenAI and Jony Ive's "io" brand has disappeared
They turned to trash because of Ives. They got better after he left.
wordofx··on Iran asks its people to delete WhatsApp from their devices
Meta does lie. They lie about e2e.
wordofx··on Tracking Copilot vs. Codex vs. Cursor vs. Devin PR Performance
Oh. I thought they had fixed it. Nothing new. CC still not ready for prime time.
wordofx··on Tracking Copilot vs. Codex vs. Cursor vs. Devin PR Performance
How to tell CC to accept everything. It’s frustrating to need to press yes yes yes yes.
wordofx··on Tracking Copilot vs. Codex vs. Cursor vs. Devin PR Performance
The problem with Claude code is it doesn’t let you walk away. You have to press yes yes yes yes yes yes yes 500 times.

Glad it’s missing until they fix this.

wordofx··on Cursor 1.0
No.
wordofx··on IT workers struggling in New Zealand's tight job market
lol no they don’t.
wordofx··on IT workers struggling in New Zealand's tight job market
No. Most of Asia can’t be bought. Foreigners cannot own property in lots of Asian countries.
wordofx··on IT workers struggling in New Zealand's tight job market
NZ did too little too late. There’s a bunch of Chinese who bought a lot… a LOT of houses in NZ. It’s one way of transferring money out of China is to use it for business. And they don’t need to leave China to do it. That was stopped but too late when they own 100s of houses.
wordofx··on IT workers struggling in New Zealand's tight job market
China is lucky that it can print money and fudge some numbers.
wordofx··on My AI skeptic friends are all nuts
So your inability to prompt, hint, provide context, setup guard rails for the ai to do what you want, is the fault of ai? Sorry to say you don’t know what you’re doing. This isn’t the fault of ai. This is your inability to learn.
wordofx··on My AI skeptic friends are all nuts
> Lack of correctness, lack of understanding and ability to reason about behaviour, and poor design that builds up from commercial pressure to move quickly are the problems we need to be solving.

So good developers will become amazing with the assistance of ai while the rest will become unemployed and find work elsewhere. So we are healing the industry. Because without ai. The industry is a hell of a lot worse. You only have to look at the replies on HN to see how laughable the industry is.

wordofx··on My AI skeptic friends are all nuts
> These comments presuppose that LLMs are universally good and useful and positive when that is the very argument that is being debated

No

They can be good but people spend more time fighting them and throwing up imaginary walls and defending their skillset rather than actually learning how to use these tools to be successful.

wordofx··on My AI skeptic friends are all nuts
It is absolutely hilarious to read the responses from people who can’t use ai make attempts to justify their ability to code better than ai. These are the people who will be replaced. They are fighting so hard against it instead of learning how to use it.

“I wrote 400 lines of code I don’t understand and need months to understand it because ai obviously cant understand it or break it down and help me document it”

“Speed is what caused problems! Because I don’t know how to structure code and get ai to structure it the same it’s obviously going rogue and doing random things I cannot control so it’s wrong and causing a mess!!!”

“I haven’t been able to use it properly so don’t know how to rein it in to do specific tasks so it produces alot of stuff that takes me ages to read! I could have written it faster!!!”

I would love to see what these people are doing 1-2 years from now. If they eventually click or if they are unemployed complaining ai took their jobs.

wordofx··on My AI skeptic friends are all nuts
Still haven’t seen an example. It’s always the same. People don’t want to give hints or context. The moment you start doing things properly it’s “oh no this is just a bad example. It still can’t do what u do”
wordofx··on Dependency injection frameworks add confusion
Java is virtual by default. C# is not. You could mark every single method virtual and mock it like Java. But it’s easier to define a contract and mock that.
wordofx··on Dependency injection frameworks add confusion
LOL ok so you’ve never used C#
wordofx··on At Amazon, some coders say their jobs have begun to resemble warehouse work
lol it’s funny you have to ask.

Out of curiosity I asked Claude.

“I have an application, it only has a few users, hosted on nginx. There is 1 endpoint which can take up to 5 minutes to execute. What’s the best way to fix this?”

Response:

“Immediate fix…

Increase nginx timeout settings explains how”

I happen to have a php project here hosted on nginx with docker locally for running and testing. So I asked cursor the exact same question. It suggested refactoring to make the call async, or changing nginx. I said change nginx. It updated the config and rebuilt docker compose to make sure the change happened.

It’s always a user issue when it comes to using AI.
