wongjoh··on Show HN: Person-to-person ridesharing, safe and reliable
I had actually looked into license plates for another startup idea about a year ago, but the smartphone camera technology is not there yet in terms of getting a good take on license plates for moving vehicles. It had to do with regular optics mechanics that I frankly dont understand well...

But RiderBee is a good way to broadcast your need for a ride to those going in the same direction

For safety, there is (1) profile verification using LinkedIn; (2) Gender matching, usually requested by females; and (3) User reviews, similar to eBay, with thumbs up or down

Good one on the payment flow. Right now, it is using paypal, so it's basically a "Pay with Paypal" button that does the usual mobile paypal flow

Just like AirBnb and eBay, take a % of the money that flows from rider to driver

Ridejoy is for long distance, whereas RiderBee is for daily travel needs (commuting or going to the airport)
wongjoh··on Ask HN: imagine a world where Google was truly evil ...
I would hope so too, but in the case/scenario, the very regulators are lobbied/bribed/look the other way. Not every society is as law-centric as the US, especially the fast, emerging countries.
wongjoh··on Ask HN: imagine a world where Google was truly evil ...
Sure. This is the classical question about a corporation maximizing profits vs its social responsibility. Furthermore, ethics/moral stand depend on the societal norms. In the scenario I gave, we are looking from the outside -- it may be perfectly "legit" within that society (and in fact, that's how many see it in my actual applied country). But reality remains: a giant with the resources, tenacity, and goal to copy and replace most every other successful company.

So my question remains: what should tech entrepreneurs do in this "imaginary" environment/scenario?

wongjoh··on Looking for a technical co-founder (SF/East Bay)
For sure, especially the "we are doing great" part ;-)

Ahh, the screenshots. You are right -- nowhere to be found on the site, but they are at the itunes link (http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/crumbs-app/id421662811?mt=8&#...). Will correct that at our next site update

Thanks!
wongjoh··on Ask HN: why is MS vs Google war so important to us hackers?
I don't think Google or anyone here is arguing about competition. The key issue is that MSFT seems to be stealing search results off from Google. That's like Gartner publishing and selling material with sections taken from research from Juniper, etc.
