wolvoleo··on PS5 Jailbreaks Are Escalating at an Unprecedented Pace
Yes me too. But I doubt it. The EU's own software like the age check refuses to work on rooted android phones. Pretty stupid because I as the owner should be able to decide whether I want to take that risk or not.

A jailbreak is similar to a root on Android. I think the EU is very happy to have us locked in by big tech unfortunately. They do enforce Apple to open up for other stores but I don't think they're going to go much further than that.

wolvoleo··on Meta and Microsoft take steps to reduce employee usage of Claude AI
Phi was more of a research project. Not trained on real world data but synthetic input. That's really good to control if you go for strict limits but it also loses a lot of originality.

But it was never a SOTA model.

wolvoleo··on Meta and Microsoft take steps to reduce employee usage of Claude AI
Microsoft is not a frontier AI shop at all. They just resell others' models. They don't have anything of their own worth mentioning. They missed the boat and tried to acquire OpenAI and failed, and now they pivoted their strategy to be a model-agnostic middleman.

And meta is only arguably so. Not really in the same league as OpenAI and Anthropic. More second tier like Google and xAi. (and of those Google is pretty close to the top two at times)

Meh I'd play 2 hours a day or so. So 60 hrs should really be plenty for the main storyline.
wolvoleo··on Toronto-Based VPN Provider Plans to Quit Canada over Lawful-Access Bill
Like the other reply, I would expect them to just move the project to a different country then instead.

Honestly, the OS that prides itself on "Only two remote holes in the default install, in a heck of a long time!" is not going to introduce a remote hole on purpose, that'll be one cold day in heck.

This is really the least thing to worry about.

wolvoleo··on Toronto-Based VPN Provider Plans to Quit Canada over Lawful-Access Bill
Knowing openbsd and Theo de Raadt I'm sure he will never ever comply with an order like that.
wolvoleo··on Xbox has secured exclusive GTA 6 streaming rights
Does that mean I can play the game without owning an xbox? That would be nice as the pc version will take forever. I could just subscribe for a month or so.

Ps couldn't read TFA as it's paywalled

wolvoleo··on Amazon introduces a redesigned Kindle family
Hmm no, everyone really was.

I would visit people who were totally not technical and they'd have a PC in their livinroom with FTD on it (which was the typical Dutch piracy tool at that time). Popcorntime was there for the even less technical people. It was as easy as click and play, really. They didn't really know what they were doing but everyone has some smartass nephew who can set stuff like that up.

I find it very hard to understand that people who had no issue using windows 95 or XP and installing something like FTD can now not find anything.

I have to agree that it's harder to find Anna's archive than I thought, when I type "Download books for free" in duckduckgo it doesn't come up with Anna's Archive (or Z-Library or library genesis for that matter), if I type the names it does come up though.

wolvoleo··on Amazon introduces a redesigned Kindle family
Absolutely but buttons on the device itself are far more useful than this.
wolvoleo··on Amazon introduces a redesigned Kindle family
Yes like a gallery color screen instead of those mediocre kaleido ones.
wolvoleo··on Amazon introduces a redesigned Kindle family
Also, real leather ages a lot better than all the fake varieties. They're definitely lower quality products IMO.
wolvoleo··on Amazon introduces a redesigned Kindle family
I'm honestly surprised that people don't manage to find Anna's Archive when they can save a lot of money there.

I'm not sure about where you are but in Holland everyone was downloading movies and TV shows in the early 2000s. When Netflix came to Europe that changed though I do expect it to go back to that now that the content has been spread over tens of platforms with every rising prices and annoying ads.

wolvoleo··on Amazon introduces a redesigned Kindle family
Pocketbook in particular if you want an open ecosystem. Kobo doesn't meet that either.

Pocketbooks just run Android and you can install what you want without any issue.

Also pocketbook are a Swiss company so that also helps if you're trying to buy European which I do.

wolvoleo··on Amazon introduces a redesigned Kindle family
I've seen it in a lot of Filippo restaurants too, even here in Barcelona. And Chinese shops. As it's usually eaten with milk I don't go for it but it's not bad apparently
wolvoleo··on Amazon introduces a redesigned Kindle family
They should have really added hardware buttons on the device. That would make me buy them (though I'd still jailbreak as soon as I can).
wolvoleo··on Amazon introduces a redesigned Kindle family
If it's a years old paperwhite I'm sure you can run it :). Only the latest model is difficult.
wolvoleo··on Amazon introduces a redesigned Kindle family
You can load KOReader on most of them. Just not the latest ones. I run it on all of mine. Even have page sync back now with Kavita that supports opds sync.
wolvoleo··on I quit OpenAI because its culture is broken
I've noticed that a lot of smart people in tech jobs are neurodivergent. And that neurodivergent people have a very different take on sex. More open and direct, things like polyamory, bdsm etc. This tends to be frowned upon by neurotypical people, especially of the religious or conservative kind, and associated with bad morals.

But I don't think that's true, in fact I see a really strong focus on consent in these communities. It's not what conservatives want to see, they want to see everyone in a marriage, with kids and a family home etc. Because that's what their ideal world looks like. But there's nothing really wrong with it if someone wants a gangbang for her birthday as mentioned in that article as an example. As long as everyone consented and the evidence provided mentions elaborate interviews and STI tests.

Also I think this is more correlation than cause and effect. We all know the saying that furries built the internet and it surprises nobody.

wolvoleo··on Nazi Germany had no hope of making an atomic bomb, uranium cubes reveal
They could have mined enough. They controlled the czech republic which provided a lot of the Soviet's nuclear materials.
wolvoleo··on We’re forgetting what darkness feels like
Huh weird, I wonder where they get the light from that reflects from them. The moon?

It wouldn't be possible for them to get direct sunlight that low during the middle of the night. Unless you are at very high latitudes in summer.

wolvoleo··on We’re forgetting what darkness feels like
LEO satellites only cause problems around dusk and dawn, when they're exposed to light but the surface is not.

Because they're so close to the earth's surface it doesn't happen all night because they'll be in darkness too.

wolvoleo··on Dots: Always-on agents
Not really. I use cloud AI a bit for development but I don't put personal data in it. That only runs on my local systems.

I also swap all the time for whoever is cheapest

wolvoleo··on European industry is doing better than you may think
Yeah those bazars as they call them. They're even owned and operated by Chinese usually.

A lot of the stuff is comparable to ones in more upmarket shops because really it's the same stuff anyway. Just with less markup

wolvoleo··on PipePipe: NewPipe hard fork implementing SponsorBlock
Ugh, sponsors are not ethical at all. See how losers like LTT were pushing PayPal honey that hijacked other people's affiliate codes. They were told about it and did nothing.

No thanks I'm not using anything without sponsorblock.

Luckily there's many newpipe forks with it. There's pipepipe but also tubular and a few others.

It would be nice if newpipe would just support sponsorblock though and leave the decision to the user, like grayjay also does.

wolvoleo··on PipePipe: NewPipe hard fork implementing SponsorBlock
But these days you just press pause when you feel like it, so you don't have to let someone else pick the moment for you.
wolvoleo··on Toyota is taking the Corolla electric
That doesn't count the distribution network for actually getting that energy there. This is the main problem right now. Right now in Holland even people wanting to build a house are blocked because the energy networks are full.

And it's not the only country with that issue.

And charging infra doesn't last longer than the car, standards are still changing a lot, and getting faster charge modes that put more burden on distribution nets.

wolvoleo··on Toyota is taking the Corolla electric
Here in Europe the apartment ratio is much higher though.
wolvoleo··on Toyota is taking the Corolla electric
It's not really if you factor in the upgrade of the distribution network. This is what Holland is struggling against (also a result of a really bad decision of 15 years ago on not investing in its upgrade).
wolvoleo··on Zelensky says Russia has widened attacks to hit Ukraine's data centres
Data centers in space would be well protected from anyone but nation state level actors though. I always wonder if this is the real reason musk wants to do this. If AI will displace as many jobs as some people predict I'm sure many datacenters would be the target of angry pitchfork mobs.
