Even in classes that I didn't have to repeat I was board a lot in class. (Bio, Physics, Math) I wasted a lot of my youth that way and while it was annoying then, it angers me now. Getting 100% on a class or test wasn't hard and shouldn't have been the limit of my education.
If this was available then I would have pounced on it and tried to test of classes. (If that was available of course, but that's another topic for discussion.) If my parents had some other way for me to get out of grade and high school they would have taken it.
This style of learning wont be for everyone. But it works for me.
On a side note, I've personally used Khan to teach my friends, my siblings, and myself the basics in subjects we've gotten rusty in or never covered growing up. I quite enjoy it.
I've been a fan ever since his 2003 song fight entries and I still typo his domain from time to time.
In the past month, Google has advertised on the new tab page for their chrome book using a mechanism for emergency updates (in some cases people can't close the ad), and started a fight in the chromium community about supporting Dart directly. Neither one is a major offence but both exhibit they have their own interests at heart.
Spdy is another good example. (I like Spdy, and I think its a good idea, but...) SPDY™ is trademarked to Google. It currently has no rfc. (Just a mostly empty draft. http://tools.ietf.org/html/draft-agl-tls-nextprotoneg-00.htm... ) It was developed internally and not opened to comments. They control the largest implementations both server and client side. And while they're selling it as a way for everyone to make the web faster, they still have full control. (Apache support is here, nginx doesn't support it, Amazon uses it heavily for the kindle fire.)
(Though we do want one but only because they're cool.)
I'd love to hear some war stories and see how you work with other teams.
Some of it's videos have 8 (now 9 I guess) views. I'm confused as it's not a major project and hardly anything to cancel. This must be the most press it's ever had.
Sendwrite is too expensive (obviously has a different target audience). I had to sign up to get prices.

10 Cards - $24.99
20 Cards - $39.80The crux of my conversation with him is that it matters where you are just as much when you are. The fact that America is two weeks off from the rest of the world caused no end of annoyances these past two weeks. It also ended up with lots of debates about how "wall clock time" has little do with the actual time especially when talking about past or future.
(Think 4pm in London 5 moths from now, what time will that be in NY? What about Brazil? Is that the same time of the day if it's 6 months from now?)
Too many internal systems have an incomplete vision of what time means to them and it rarely holds up. I could go on, but I leave it with this. If you can help it, store points in time in a unix timestamp (or at least UTC) and avoid having to write scheduling software.

These share taxis depart from the terminal only when a sufficient amount of passengers have
boarded, and the name is derived from Turkish for "apparently stuffed" for this reason.I'll be able to afford private schooling for my children. The average demographic here probably can. I relish at the idea of seeing how a Khan Academy Classroom could teach my child (maybe in some sort of "Free school" environment?) and I realize that public education probably wont be able to cover that.
What I worry about more is that my children's friends wont be able to go to a private school, and while I realize Khan Academy is free online. Most kids will probably be sent to public schools.
I was educated in public school and I don't think it was horrible but I do think we can do better.
I think the question is; How do we bring this type of learning to public education?
The best way I've heard it explained is that the word CAT doesn't look like a cat. A quick google search found this. http://dyslexiavictoria.wordpress.com/2011/02/25/dyslexic-pr...
"Also the alphabet is a type of abstract concept that Dyslexics have a frustrating time trying to learn because unless the letters are part of a word they don’t mean anything other than sounds. Dyslexics need concrete real images that can be connected to symbols such as words and numerals. “C – A – T” are sounds but do not bring up any images of real things. The word “CAT” however can be imagined."
Showing a kid the wrong spelling will only confuse them. (Writing was already confusing.) I was told growing up that my mind was trying really hard to find a cat in the letters, it flipped them around, held them upside down, put them on top of each other, and nothing looks like a cat. You don't actually see anything move (common question) but I used to stare at words trying to make sense of them. I don't know enough about cognition to tell you actually how it works.
I think if you can short circuit some of these wasted cycles it might help dyslexic kids pick up on what reading and writing actually is a bit faster. I'd give the font a try but they're using some sort of vector JS based font rendering (Cufon) and I don't know how to get that back to a ttf. But I doubt it would have much of an effect on myself anyway as I've learned how to read and write a long time ago.
