did you write this with an LLM? also, no, there are no docs for allow listing internal libraries or namespaces in NPM that I can find
winrid··on Stop Ruining It
It's mostly the result of hiring too many stupid product managers and engineers that don't give a shit.

Even if you didn't read the code if you cared even an ounce you wouldn't ship this crap.

winrid··on Stop Ruining It
Some related things I noticed just today:

- the close button in outlook is HIDDEN until you move the window

- in Gdrive they list the selected filename at the bottom. They have the entire page width to show the file name. It truncates at like 70px.

This laptop is plenty powerful enough. The N150[0] is similar single threaded to some 8th gen i7s which many still use to code (including myself). Should run many claude sessions at once, too. I am not sure I'd want to compile large Rust projects on it, but Node/C++/Java works fine.

not if you have internal repos?

I guess. 14" is about as small as I can use personally, that already hurts my hands

A used x1 carbon is a better deal, faster, and weighs about the same with a bigger screen.
winrid··on Claude Opus 4.8
Seems like a clear regression over 4.7 so far.

Every time I tell Claude to review a git changeset for performance or security issues, it just starts doing random stuff:

test -f /tmp/aaa.txt && echo "AAA-EXISTS"; test -f /tmp/bbb.txt && echo "BBB-EXISTS"; head -c 5 /tmp/aaa.txt > /dev/null && echo "READ-OK") ⎿ AAA-EXISTS BBB-EXISTS READ-OK

winrid··on Ember.js 7.0
I remember my first full time frontend job I applied to in like 2013 the job listing said I should know ember, backbone, and angular. I was kind of living out of my car so I just studied up a bunch on Ember at the time at random Starbucks.

It turns out they didn't use any of those and didn't ask questions about them in the interview. :) After a year or so they did start using Angular though.

Anyway, I did end up playing with ember and backbone around that time. Cool to see it's still developed.

winrid··on MCP is dead?
I usually just generate the MCP server spec from existing openapi/swagger spec, maybe with a filter to omit certain endpoints and so on.
winrid··on Ruby vs. Java vs. TypeScript: my experience on building a Cowork DOCX plugin
jpackage/jlink lets you distribute an exe, dmg, etc, with the JVM packaged inside. I have java desktop apps which are like 50mb.
winrid··on Migrating from Go to Rust
Rust has autocomplete even in Sublime Text with an LSP... not quite as good as with Java, but I don't write either by hand much anymore.
winrid··on Migrating from Go to Rust
You can not use async right? Maybe not with axum but I imagine there are fully blocking frameworks for rust.
winrid··on Migrating from Go to Rust
If you spend an hour skimming the Rust Book it's not really that bad
winrid··on Bun support is now limited and deprecated
What does this use bun for? I thought this was a python project?

I'm so freaking glad I'm not normal.
winrid··on Gemini 3.5 Flash
I meant that designing Flash to use more CPU to save bandwidth was the right call at the time, unless I misunderstand your reply.
winrid··on Gemini 3.5 Flash
It was probably the right call at the time with low bandwidth. Nowadays I bet flash would execute faster than most js heavy sites :D

You know the military is composed of citizens right? Our largest spending category is Social Security at 22%, Medicare at 14%, and then there's Veterans Benefits at 6%. So most of the money spent is for the people. Defense is 13%.
winrid··on No More JetBrains Products for Me
I ran jetbrains ides for about six years, and recently switched back to Sublime but with LSPs. Nowadays with LLMs I just want to open an editor quickly to make changes, or navigate the code. Even the typescript LSP is faster to start than loading the IDE. And ripgrep is much faster than the fancy indexed search in the IDE. Not to mention, the search box would just half the time not work in the IDE or flat out lie? Also on linux the "go anywhere" modal would sometimes just be a black window or be positioned wrong.

They are doubling down on the state of things now by running "safe and stable" advertising, which doesn't make me feel like they're actually going to improve anything. I probably won't be renewing, either.

winrid··on US is starting to see heavy job losses in roles exposed to AI
How does it not? We have a ton of social programs.
winrid··on Reverting the incremental GC in Python 3.14 and 3.15
You said "they have no free operation of any kind and never free objects" but some JVM moving GCs do.

Power is the biggest factor. Efficiency helps. I bet they're more efficient than most people think, it just doesn't scale linearly.
winrid··on US is starting to see heavy job losses in roles exposed to AI
Fun fact the US government was designed to be ineffective on purpose. It's not supposed to do much by design
winrid··on US is starting to see heavy job losses in roles exposed to AI
Yes because the most optimized company builds the most wealth and power and puts you out of business or destroys you.
winrid··on I believe there are entire companies right now under AI psychosis
That's why I made an API LLMs can call to search fastcomments APIs: https://docs.fastcomments.com/guide-llm-kit.html
winrid··on Kushner's Thrive Capital Invests $100M in Shopify
Great, can they fix their plugin review process now? As of like 2 weeks ago it seems it's all done by AI with no way to provide feedback when wrong.
winrid··on 7 in 10 Americans oppose data centers being built in their communities
There is a difference between freedom and oppression yes. Are you saying we can't figure out where to put buildings if we let people celebrate the 4th of July?
winrid··on Reverting the incremental GC in Python 3.14 and 3.15
That's not true, shenadoah does decommit and will continue to in the new generational version.
winrid··on Reverting the incremental GC in Python 3.14 and 3.15
So if I run it on a Pentium 3 you're telling me I can't get a long pause time? "1ms" means nothing
