winrid··on How VictoriaLogs Stores Your Logs in a Columnar Layout
So basically if you have queries that are hard on the query planner, that constant fan out has higher CPU cost than the alternatives.
winrid··on Claude Sonnet 5
Today I tested GLM 5.2 by giving it an example stylesheet and told it to change the background color of a submit button.

It then hallucinated the submit button class...

winrid··on The KIDS Act would require age checks to get online
Your ISP will eventually require a new protocol that can hold your digital ID in every packet to access certain content and you'll have to upgrade/migrate your OS if you want to view p0rn etc.
winrid··on The KIDS Act would require age checks to get online
It's not about the kids.

It's so Facebook can prove to advertisers the views are not bots/AI.

winrid··on Think of the children: How to force real ID for all internet traffic (2023)
Friendly reminder this is lobbied into existence by advertising companies since the advent of AI they aren't sure what is real traffic anymore, tying all traffic to a government ID solves that.
winrid··on Ask HN: Will programmers write more efficient code during the memory shortage?
None of my LLM created rust code has unsafe, or unwrap and must pass clippy checks..

Python isn't even that bad, I have python desktop apps that use 50mb of memory. More than needed but not 1-2gb realm people complain about with electron stuff.
winrid··on Is Meta destroying its engineering organization?
At the end of the day it's a battle of competence of who runs your company.

Sure you might be able to have PMs deal with the easy stuff for a short while.

But will the company that can hire more competent people pull ahead? Probably.

I can tell you one thing: I haven't worked with a PM for like 5 years.

winrid··on Ask HN: What are you working on? (June 2026)
The teeth ones "stretch" to grab different sizes, too, but they won't support as large a range as a chain or band one for sure.
winrid··on Yserver: A modern X11 server written in Rust
It's possible it has been fixed in the last couple years but for a while it was the case.
winrid··on Ask HN: What are you working on? (June 2026)
Working on sidewaysdata.com a lot :)

Coming soon is a full automated training system to "certify" people to time events.

It'll spin up a VM with our timing software and an emulator of the hardware of your chosing and you kind of play a game to get certified (you deal with real radio traffic, real world like scenarios where shit goes wrong)... This way we don't have to train people AT events from zero.

Oil filter tool that grabs the filter with teeth should work better than a chain clamp

The downside is your refresh rate is locked to the slowest monitor.
winrid··on The Birth and Death of JavaScript (2014)
Python with TK at least gives you a type system and same cross platform support...
winrid··on Claude Fable 5: mid-tier results on coding tasks
I've also had Fable successfully build a text editor (quill integration) into a Vaadin project that randomly loses its content after you type a few characters (this is on the 3rd iteration).
winrid··on Claude Fable 5: mid-tier results on coding tasks
It used a chinese character instead of the word "true"
winrid··on Learn PHP in 2026 (Yes, Really)
Sure thing, was just curious since you mentioned rails. Django's ORM is pretty similar (auto generated migrations, super easy relations, etc).
winrid··on Claude Fable 5: mid-tier results on coding tasks
I've had Fable add Chinese characters to our conversation for no reason.

Have you used Django's ORM?
winrid··on HateArena – A free and open source arena shooter
Fyi the site isn't really usable on mobile (moto g power 2025).

Also brings back assault cube memories! Good luck

winrid··on Malicious npm packages detected across Red Hat Cloud Services
did you write this with an LLM? also, no, there are no docs for allow listing internal libraries or namespaces in NPM that I can find
winrid··on Stop Ruining It
It's mostly the result of hiring too many stupid product managers and engineers that don't give a shit.

Even if you didn't read the code if you cared even an ounce you wouldn't ship this crap.
