winrid··on Java 27
I have a couple 50k+ loc java projects written entirely by LLMs at this point that have never thrown an NPE.

You mean like, when a new song is added to the list???

winrid··on I've operated petabyte-scale ClickHouse clusters for 5 years
hello we still exist :)
winrid··on Shopify is moving from React Native back to Swift and Kotlin
probably because every react native app they've used feels like shit
winrid··on We built our house for LAN parties (2024)
Not even close

The litter robot is fine, it's just a turning globe that dumps into a box. The main issue is the sensors corrode so you have to pop the globe off and replace them. I just take it outside and hose it lol

"your child has been recycled. Here's why that matters."
winrid··on GPT-6 Astra on robot arms
I think my grandmother is the only person I can think of in my entire family that legit folds cloths properly. Dying art? :D
winrid··on GPT-6 Astra on robot arms
Robot vacuums are massively simpler and they fucking break all the time. Wheel motors or their position sensors, belts, plastic gears, contacts that corrode, a circuit board someone decided to not comformally coat and a cat puked on it...
winrid··on Discovery of a new OpenAI agent message board
How do you not have a proxy these boxes go through and track the traffic and monitor it?

Every day I learn more about how incompetent these people are.

winrid··on Ask HN: Resources to get good at soldering?
I highly recommend a desoldering gun, like a Hakko, absolutely life changing if you take stuff apart or repair often.

Also, flux is your friend.

winrid··on Can AI design circuit boards yet?
You need to have the AI validate it with a separate reviewer like with code.
winrid··on GPT-6 Astra
I see. So the agent didn't build it blind. A human reviewed it and you had to make changes.
winrid··on GPT-6 Astra
They were told to breakout of a sandbox, which probably biases the model toward more "black hat" behavior in their training.

btw, the fact that OpenAI doesn't have some sort of monitor/summary for the agents that they watch I find hard to believe. There's no way this is really authentic, anyway. Even a haiku summarizer would have been like "uuuh the agents are communicating" and they would have stopped it. But I bet they saw this and decided to see what would happen.

winrid··on Show HN: Reactor Atlas
It would probably be good to be able to filter between the two. Personally I just wanted to see the list of events directly related to the nuclear plants. Since you know, that's what the site is for :)
winrid··on GPT-6 Astra
I agree.
winrid··on GPT-6 Astra
The models were told to do something malicious
winrid··on GPT-6 Astra
It's pretty cool they used Artifactory directory names as a way to send messages.
winrid··on Show HN: Reactor Atlas
I thought the monitoring part was cool: https://reactoratlas.com/en/monitoring

But why does it say stuff about hydropower? is that a translation bug?

> I strongly believe we humans shouldn't code anymore

It's okay to enjoy things.

winrid··on GPT-6 Astra
and anyone that disagrees you just kill them, right? That's what all good commies do.

Stop hiding behind rainbows and say what you mean.

How do you imagine a post work society where people can have inequality? I don't want to be equal. I want to do more.
winrid··on GPT-6 Astra
lol have you actually tried to build anything useful e2e? Leaving the AI to itself gives horrendous results.
winrid··on ChatGPT outage – Resolved
just thought it was fun. thanks for your reply.

Even if you do like, hard labor? I do fabrication work in the morning, usually. Seems like carbs help.
winrid··on ChatGPT Is Throwing 404
you can flip it and save a few bytes, but not valid fizzbuzz then:

for(i=100;i--;console.log(i%5?f||i:f+'Buzz'))f=i%3?'':'Fizz'

winrid··on The Overton Window of Food
I like to dip 1/4 a bagel in my coffee in the morning. Holds me off until lunch. That or a couple eggs.
winrid··on Fastpotify
as a side note I absolutely hated writing UIs in egui. It is a really nice framework, but the iteration times were painful.
winrid··on Has early Scratch experience led to fulfilling careers?
I wish someone showed me something like Scratch when I was younger.

I didn't even get a computer I could mess with until I was like 15. We had a family pc for maybe 6 months in the 90s and I played like, magic school bus, lol.

I really started programming in HS when someone showed me what a function was, that was an epiphany moment. Before that I just liked to build computers and servers; I was hosting HTML sites from our house in 7th grade I think? But still not programming.

I also wish I listed to some rando telling me the money was in C++. I did PHP for too long.
