Time for research to move to the EU. No point getting involved in the trouble that is the US these days with little tyrants everywhere.

windex··on Trump's Tariffs Wipe Out over $6T on Wall Street in Epic Two-Day Rout
Iam amazed at the epic levels of ruin one man can bring upon a country and how a whole country of people can elect someone so utterly out of depth. This level of idiocy wouldnt be tolerated in companies if done by an intern.

windex··on Should managers still code?
Practitioners need to be led by a practitioner. I worked for a while with a team leader whose only connection to the team was absorbing credit, giving confusing orders and acting like he saved the day. I dont want to work with aggregator managers ever again.

>Why are megacorps so incomprehensibly clueless about this?

Management by committees. Lots of office politics. Most senior execs have successfully failed upwards. Once every 18 months they let go of people they stick the blame on thereby losing any memory of design decisions.

AI enforced slavery. I remember reading a short story where workers get instructions from an AI constantly after starting out as work assistance. Don't remember the details.

windex··on Apple's AirPods Pro hearing health features
Fragile and too expensive to replace often. The software updates that apple pushes on to them screws them up. Happened to my first set of airpods and swore off of them since then. The batteries are awful too.

My go to since then has been the one plus z2 headsets, brilliant call quality, great form factor, decent ANC, and fantastic battery.

windex··on Workers are stuck in place because everyone is too afraid of a recession to quit
Not just that, I am tired of wanting to actually work than kowtowing to office rituals like drive to work in rush hour traffic to only then get on teams calls in the open. I am also hearing horror stories of new workplaces being completely obstinate about hierarchy and weird HR rule keeping. In short, many workplaces now have "ritualistic work" rather than actual tasks to complete. These aren't small names either. I am guessing that top level executives actually have no work other than aggregate from below and look busy. Looking busy needs minions.

It's batteries plus the devices they are in. Its maddening to see how many perfectly good devices get thrown out because of dead batteries.

The ruling party in India legalized corruption using brazen moves such as electoral bonds and is now angry that a small party is continuing to get votes. They have been using laws that assume you are guilty and expect you prove otherwise. The PMLA laws are meant to imprison people and is against the concept of natural justice anywhere in the world except in tin pot dictatorships. India is migrating towards becoming a religious dictatorship that doesn't tolerate opposition or dissent.

The current government has a whole slew of stupid decisions to its name. To its credit though, it has managed to brainwash a large section of India's technically educated and financially well off upper classes. It has the media, sports, public spaces, campuses under full control monitored by policies, online trolls, and goons.
