At least they are finally being honest about the direction of the business. I have thought for a long while that they were already doing this and just not telling anyone...

Edit for clarity: /s - I went to the same university which had the above slogan.

I love this analogy!

appropedia.org has a lot of instructions on how to build things, I don't thing a "progression tree" exists, but it is a place to start!
wilsonjholmes··on Two new PebbleOS watches
Pre-ordered 2 different units; really excited for these to ship.

Got a Pebble Time in highschool and it was so much fun to use and so polished. It was one of the first electronic devices to truely enamor me. I have worked with embedded syatems for the last ~3 years and I have been wondering lately just how no-one else has been able to since make a smartwatch with such good "taste" as the Pebbles...

Happy to have a fresh device to live with! Thank you Eric!

Why does a monolithic kernel make those features have "hoops to jump through" compared with how a micro-kernel would handle those features?

Unfortunately, I forgot that title editing seems to time out... I am no longer able to edit title.

Noted.
wilsonjholmes··on Appropedia – Much more than an appropriate technology wiki
I spent some time as an undergrad working for Dr. Joshua M. Pearce in his "Michigan Tech's Open Sustainability Technology (MOST) Lab", where I was engrossed in the world of open-source (hardware and software) and using it for the betterment of research, the world, etc. We would publish loads of stuff we built on Appropedia. There is really quite a lot of neat stuff on that wiki, and since I was reminded of it the other day I thought I would share!

What kind of keyboard do you have or what are some favorite ones you have tried? Been looking at bastardkb.com a lot recently, but feel frozen with choice.

Scandalous, but I love it! (:

wilsonjholmes··on Classic 50mm “Normal” Lens
Would you mind explaining or offering resources on understanding why it is different? I have a M43 camera as well, and I have always just halved the focal length and aperature I want a lens to be on my system to be a roughly equivalent match to the full frame performance I am trying to emulate.

Thanks! I am going to be fixing RSS on the site soon, and once that is done, I have plans to document my process creating a buisness card with inkscape. My card was made completely with ascii characters and looks like neofetch on a gruvbox themed z-shell prompt :)

I created mine initially as an aid to my job search with some GNU/Linux stuff, as well as a writeup on my journey learning Robot Operating System (ROS), but I have been wanting it to be more of a creative outlet now that I have gotten the self hosting bug. I have some photography stuff up there right now, and I hope to have some more DIY car camping stuff and educational content there soon. https://wilsonjholmes.com

wilsonjholmes··on Linux Touchpad Like MacBook Update: Touchpad Gestures Now Shipping
I have had terrible luck with suspend/hibernation on all of the laptops I have used Linux on, so I just resort to shutting down and starting up... I have SSDs so it is not that big of a deal, but still. I cannot wait for the day I can simply close my laptop lid and have the battery not drain ~12% an hour.
