willsmith72··on AI coding has made CI a bottleneck, so we reworked ours to keep up
to me the last part if the most important part. product management hasn't been automated at all, and is more important than ever. you can't just keep adding features to make a great product
willsmith72··on Claude Code now reads AGENTS.md if there is no Claude.md
depends what you're doing. if you've got a specialized agent deployed in prod, of course your evals and prompts will be targeted towards 1 specific version of a model.

on the other hand if it's just a local coding/"use my computer" agent, i highly doubt the effort in maintaining different prompts is worth any gain in performance

willsmith72··on Australia says it could follow Canada in forging deeper ties with EU
to be fair until we know what associate member means, there might not be any contradiction to the UK position
willsmith72··on Australia says it could follow Canada in forging deeper ties with EU
you might be overstating the problem. for sure there's overreliance on China which is decreasing slightly (1-3% from what I remember), but Australian exports are still increasing because of the US, India, Japan and many others
willsmith72··on Navier-Stokes Announcement
structural engineers?
willsmith72··on OpenAI's Sam Altman says it would be 'ill-advised' to go public in 2026
the only way they never go public is if they die quickly

edit: which I doubt btw. investors are going to want to dump the bags very soon

willsmith72··on Show HN: Opentracker, an open source Pivotal Tracker
I worked with Pivotal Labs in 2020. TDD, pairing, and Tracker open all day. I kept using Tracker after the engagement ended on personal projects, until Broadcom shut it down in April 2025.

So I rebuilt the board I was used to. Icebox, backlog, current iteration, done. Stories are 1, 2, 4 or 8 points, iterations fill to your velocity, and a story goes started, finished, delivered, then accepted or rejected.

I love the simple opinionated board and tried to recreate it. Have been using it for a year and thought why not open source it.

Hosting isn't ideal for open source, but it's my cheap/free stack. Cloudflare Workers + D1, free tier is enough. All MIT, hosted at tracker.usero.io if you don't want to deploy anything.

There's an MCP server too, that's how I point Claude Code at it.

willsmith72··on Waymo pulls over, calls cops on juvenile riders who had 'ghost gun"
> The mere presense of a gun shouldn't involve calling the cops

Unless it's against the terms of service of the private corporation

willsmith72··on Waymo pulls over, calls cops on juvenile riders who had 'ghost gun"
have you talked to cashiers? many prefer the new ones. who are you protecting?
willsmith72··on Waymo pulls over, calls cops on juvenile riders who had 'ghost gun"
> What I don’t get is why Waymo allows unaccompanied juvenile riders at all?

Why not? They can already take an uber. It's questionable which is safer

willsmith72··on Waymo pulls over, calls cops on juvenile riders who had 'ghost gun"
> What if Waymo thought the guns were real, called the cops, and the cops screwed up and shot one of the kids?

See this is only an issue because that is a plausible situation. The actual problem is on the police/cultural side, not the waymo side. No one should even have to think about this when calling the cops. And I can't think of 1 other western society where they do

willsmith72··on Pandas Should Go Extinct
Makes sense, especially with AI coding tools the rewrite and familiarity arguments hold less water. Similar for the rustify everything crazy.

The problem is, orgs who see themselves as big data orgs want to act that way, even if they're medium data. "But we'll need it when we grow", "we need to know the state of the art tools"

willsmith72··on Show HN: Usero MCP, give your coding agent your user feedback
Feel free to drop feedback here: https://usero.io/f/0dq810da (and yes this form was created using the MCP)
willsmith72··on Shopify is moving from React Native back to Swift and Kotlin
how much parallelism are you writing in your frontends?
willsmith72··on Shopify is moving from React Native back to Swift and Kotlin
I've been out of the app world for ages, always liked kotlin. Can you speak more about multiplatform?
willsmith72··on Navier-Stokes – Tristan Buckmaster [pdf]
i've seen no sign of that
willsmith72··on Harvard study predicts most suicide attempts a week in advance
yeah but look how much overhead this is

> They were sent brief (20-item) smartphone-based surveys 6 times/day for 3 months

Is that in any way realistic? 120 answers/day??

willsmith72··on Muse – Meta’s personal AI agent
ah what a throwback.. I thought I was so efficient copy pasting all day long
willsmith72··on Muse – Meta’s personal AI agent
I agree, and stay away from meta generally in life wherever possible

That said, I've got more time for projects this week so flew through my Claude max plan. Now I'm trying muse spark 1.3 with opencode which is free with pretty generous usage allowance. First time I've been impressed by meta's AI products. It feels not far below opus 4.8ish

willsmith72··on Cloud in a Bottle: making self-hosting accessible to everyone
> One of my coworkers made a completely static portfolio website with a single page and used react.

People love hating on react, but I mean this is pretty common. Raw is fine, but even in a "static" thing, you'll eventually go "ok now I want to reuse some text here.." Or have some common elements with x things shared. So I'm gonna have to write some hacky imperative JS? Or messy CSS? And what starts as static very easily becomes slightly dynamic. I hate overengineering, so if React were hard to setup or deploy I'd agree (eg Kube), but the cost-benefit of React makes it worth it in most cases for me

willsmith72··on South African diamond mines are closing due to weak sales and lab-grown stones
there's nothing holy about eating real animals (unless you're religious)

i'm no vegan, but if identical lab-grown alternatives are available at near same cost without the hormones, antibiotics, emissions, I'll take it

willsmith72··on South African diamond mines are closing due to weak sales and lab-grown stones
> there's little to no difference in quality between the two

Lab grown can be way better quality. To me it was a no-brainer considering the ethical concerns, then add in the cost difference. The only argument I've heard for natural is "I like the imperfections". Sounds like brainwashing to me. They're chemically identical

The mining industry should die

willsmith72··on Ask HN: Who is using MCP in production?
Internally we have MCPs for many many tools, I would expect if anyone builds a product or new feature today it has an MCP or skill
willsmith72··on Claude: System Prompts
Why are they so old though? June 9th is a long time ago for a Fable prompt. They haven't iterated on it since then? At the least we know it's outdated because it gives false info about the latest models, but you'd think they'd find other ways to improve it too
willsmith72··on When Feature Flags Do and Don't Make Sense (2019)
just replied above. i wish it was my imagination, it's reality
willsmith72··on When Feature Flags Do and Don't Make Sense (2019)
how? if you have 100 feature flags in your system each with 3 potential states, which states do you run in your e2es?
willsmith72··on When Feature Flags Do and Don't Make Sense
good luck rolling back when 20 teams have been waiting for your pipeline to be unblocked for 2 weeks
willsmith72··on When Feature Flags Do and Don't Make Sense (2019)
Another issue is launching behind feature flags often skips integration/e2e testing, which couldn't possibly test with every combination of every flag. So your release which is "safer" behind a flag is actually untested until it's launched.
willsmith72··on Managing AI Coding Costs at Scale
> I probably spend like $80 a day

Wait what? I don't understand these numbers. I spend $1k/day

Your story about being told to use AI for everything I was expecting you to be well over that

willsmith72··on DeepSeek announced to raise its API price tremendously
brilliant marketing? how exactly? more like how to undo any goodwill you've built with your customers.

the only competitive edge for someone like me who wants an api to call is price
