widowlark··on Amazon reveals first color Kindle, new Kindle Scribe, and more
Not OP, but a few things:

- the authors are unfairly compensated by amazon and the public libraries due to publisher issues with ebooks already. OP is hardly contributing to this disparity.

- I choose to purchase expensive copies of books I love - but the digital copy is the one I read.

widowlark··on Amazon reveals first color Kindle, new Kindle Scribe, and more
I basically always keep it offline, pushing updates via usb-c
widowlark··on Ask HN: What's the "best" book you've ever read?
Shogun by James Clavell as well!
widowlark··on Who is Marcellus Williams: Execution in Missouri despite evidence of innocence
"Better a thousand innocent men are locked up than one guilty man roam free."

To clarify, I vehemently disagree with your post and think that the pursuit of innocence is an imperative function of the state.

widowlark··on Mira Murati leaves OpenAI
id imagine that level of honesty could still lead to billions lost in shareholder value - thus the grey area. Market obfuscation is a real thing.
widowlark··on A Rare Visual Disorder Twists Faces Out of Shape
New studies unlock the mysteries of prosopometamorphopsia, a disorder that distorts faces. One woman’s condition improves when she wears orange-tinted glasses
widowlark··on Comic Mono
I get Panic! Studios vibes from this font.
widowlark··on ReMarkable Paper Pro
The A6X2 is great as well, and fits a surprisingly small niche for smaller writing devices.

I would also love a device that is the size of a pocket notepad someday

widowlark··on Out of Your Head
yes, we are part of the universe. But our perception does not change the reality of its existence, only our understanding of it.

widowlark··on Out of Your Head
All we experience is in our mind alone - psychedelics reveal nothing about the universe but they do reveal everything about our perception of it. It wont make you see colors that you are incapable of normally seeing, or hear things you are incapable of normally hearing, but it will re-arrange your senses to seem that way. IMO, we should not be fooled by these cheap sensory tricks and im disappointed Sacks has been.
widowlark··on No "Hello", No "Quick Call", and No Meetings Without an Agenda
The best way to interact with people who feel this way is to not play the games. Eventually the isolated individual will be managed out or adapt to a more sensible posture. Best to work around them until then.
widowlark··on No "Hello", No "Quick Call", and No Meetings Without an Agenda
But the chilling effect it has on cross-team interactions leads to the same result.
widowlark··on No "Hello", No "Quick Call", and No Meetings Without an Agenda
The authors approach, in my opinion, will lead to nothing but confrontation and probably decrease productivity significantly. Then again, it sounds like that's the goal
widowlark··on No "Hello", No "Quick Call", and No Meetings Without an Agenda
Most of the time, im letting YOU know that the product or service YOU own is not working. Its a courtesy. If I have to jump through this many hoops to tell you that, ill just let it continue to fail until someone more important than me has a problem. Then ill point them to you.
widowlark··on Why didn't Rome have an industrial revolution?
on its face I don't know that patents alone drove the industrial revolution - I imagine that the modality of labor and capital also played a significant role

widowlark··on Not an iPad Pro Review: Why iPadOS Still Doesn't Get the Basics Right
>If it was "objectively bad" I and the other commenter wouldn't be able to refuse it, nor would "everyone overlook it".

Something can be objectively bad without you noticing its failures. Consensus does not guide objectivity.

>Do you genuinely believe any complain is legitimate?

No, just legitimate ones.

>The OC said it himself: "everyone overlooks it". Perhaps because it's not really there for them, and you're just more fussy ones?

Fussy means to be overly caring about unimportant details. However, I would not call this issue unimportant.

widowlark··on Not an iPad Pro Review: Why iPadOS Still Doesn't Get the Basics Right
I would like to better understand your mentality. Every Apple article I read has comments like yours, essentially saying "It works on my machine, its a YOU (the struggling users) problem".

Do you genuinely believe your response is helpful? Just like the OC, I too have noticed the atrocious editing and word manipulation in iOS and, just like OC, I have been text editing for my entire life. iOS is objectively bad at it, in many specific ways. The only way to improve it is for us to be honest about how it can be better and go from there. Coping with the issues as if they dont even exist is not a good path forward.

widowlark··on Nintendo is suing the creators of Switch emulator Yuzu
I play my switch games on my PC completely legally. All the games I play are owned by me, and all of them were backed up using my own switch and my own prod.keys.

widowlark··on Biden pardons marijuana use nationwide

widowlark··on Forget spaceships; I just want my music
As an addendum to my statement: If the changes in demand do not result in a change in supply, then piracy is justified.
widowlark··on Forget spaceships; I just want my music
Capitalism responds to demand. We have to stop paying for convenience and start demanding better. Save your money from Streaming, purchase used and physical only. Force the market to adapt to you.

widowlark··on A Nuclear Renaissance Is the Best Path Forward
I am aware that MSR/E can refer to multiple reactor fuel types - since we were talking about thorium, I didn't feel the need to specify which I meant.

The current environment of Nuclear Plant technology does not negate the benefits of MSR Thorium reactors

widowlark··on A Nuclear Renaissance Is the Best Path Forward
The issue isn’t the U232-33-35. Its the potential for meltdown, which the MSRE systems fully mitigate in situ
