Senior/Staff-level frontend engineer with 13 years at Ontraport, where I progressed from Junior Engineer to Senior Frontend Engineer and technical lead. I’m looking for a Senior or Staff Engineer role where I can stay close to the code while owning architecture, complex product work, and technical direction.

I’ve led products from early prototypes through production, including a graph-based visual automation builder, website/email builders, real-time multi-channel messaging, and data-heavy CRM interfaces. My work has included frontend architecture, complex state management, WebSockets and event-driven systems, performance optimization, reusable component systems, application security, TypeScript modernization, and occasional backend work in Go/PHP/Postgres.

I also spend a significant part of my time making engineering teams more effective: technical design and planning, mentoring, code/architecture reviews, debugging difficult production issues, and improving tooling and testing. I introduced Playwright and reusable mocked APIs for E2E testing, and more recently have incorporated Claude Code and other AI-assisted workflows into debugging, implementation, testing, legacy-code exploration, and review.

Best fit: a collaborative, product-focused team building complex web software where strong frontend architecture, UX, and engineering judgment matter. Especially interested in Senior/Staff IC roles at growing, mission-driven companies.

whymsicalburito··on Launch HN: Drafted (YC P26) – Models for residential architecture
This is interesting and cool for entertainment, but it's extremely hard to picture using this as a replacement for an architect.

We're building an ADU right now and the floorplan design was a very small part of what our architect did. So much more of the value came from the relationships he has with the structural and geotechnical engineers we used as well as the relationship with our city building department.

This really strikes me as a product in search of a problem.

Maybe a homeowner could use this for initial planning before finding an architect to use, but at that point you're competing with pencil and paper.

whymsicalburito··on Launch HN: Societies.io (YC W25) – AI simulations of your target audience
Do you ensure you have enough personas in the desired target area to get enough survey responses? Are there demographics you are not able to simulate at this time?
whymsicalburito··on Figma files for proposed IPO
I'm a little surprised by this comment because both dev mode and variables are the main ways I use Figma. Our design team creates the design and then the Devs use dev mode to implement what they designed. Dev mode has been great for our team!

Is this an uncommon use case?

whymsicalburito··on When the Homeowners Association Comes for Your Home
It's stack ranking for neighborhoods!
whymsicalburito··on Spotify and Google Announce User Choice Billing
You're right that there are definitely some bad actors for cancelling subscriptions, it's really crappy you've had to deal with that! I once had a recurring charge from rackspace that neither myself nor rackspace's support could tell me which account the charges were associated with! Luckily my credit card company was able to put a block on any charges coming from rackspace rather than have to cancel the entire card.

I still think there are way more good companies than bad ones when it comes to cancelling and I do value building a relationship with the companies I patronize.

It is worrying to give so much power to a 3rd party, in this case google, who is notoriously difficult to deal with when an issue arises.

whymsicalburito··on Spotify and Google Announce User Choice Billing
When given the choice, I will always subscribe/pay/book directly with the company rather than use a 3rd party. If something goes wrong it's always easier to only need to deal with one company rather than two. Plus I'm choosing to start a relationship with a company that I give money to and thus want them to be able to use all of that money towards making the service and experience the best possible, rather than have them be handicapped by fees coming right off the top.
whymsicalburito··on A Sober Look at SPACs (2020)
Do you have any tips on good screeners or places to find these SPACs? I've never invested in them yet and don't know too much about them. Are they traded just like regular stocks?

whymsicalburito··on UC Santa Cruz Reinstates 41 Graduate Students After Months-Long Strike
That's interesting. UC employees aren't classified as state employees, they are employed by the regents. CSU employees are state employees.
whymsicalburito··on Instacart announces new Covid-19 policies and plans to hire 250k more shoppers
100% this. I made a pretty large costco order with instacart yesterday and expected to pay 15% in fees and tip, but when the order came I saw the store receipt and they overcharged me on almost every single item. The instacart order total was 35% more than what was spent at the store. The total lack of transparency is infuriating and I very much feel cheated.
whymsicalburito··on After ‘Parasite,’ Are Subtitles Still a One-Inch Barrier for Americans?
Personally I really appreciate the photography and visual details of films and find that I feel I have to choose between reading the subtitles and noticing those intricate details in a film.
whymsicalburito··on Tesla stock explodes higher again, topping $900 per share
Unless you happen to have a magic crystal ball, it's a purely speculative gamble. Nothing about tsla's price is rational right now. The people who shorted yesterday probably thought the same thing...
whymsicalburito··on Eight Week Semesters (2017)
All of the University of California schools (except for Berkeley and Merced) are on the quarter system. I really liked the quarter system. It really felt like professors couldn't waste your time with busy work activities. Everything was very focused.
whymsicalburito··on Culdesac: Building car-free neighborhoods from scratch
What's the solution for unloading your car after a costco trip? How do I load my car for a camping trip? How do I unload lumber for my DIY home improvement projects? This project seems to have a very narrow view of how people live their lives.
whymsicalburito··on Duffel (YC S18) raises $30M for flight booking API
I had to build a hotel booking platform on Amadeus a few years ago and it was a nightmare to work with their API. It would frequently break or start returning differently formatted responses. Also the support was so bad, I felt like I was the first developer the reps had ever spoken with. I hope a newcomer can unseat the incumbents in this space, it's badly needed!
whymsicalburito··on California’s new law bans schools from starting before 8am
Of course there are exceptions, but most homeschooled people I've met have displayed some sort of social deficiency. I wouldn't support a blanket statement that the solution is more home schooling.
whymsicalburito··on California’s new law bans schools from starting before 8am
I really enjoyed my public education, but I realize we happen to have very very good public schools in my city. I'm sorry your experience was so bad.
whymsicalburito··on Report: Young adults more likely to live with parents than spouses
I would be super stoked if I could find a house to buy in SoCal and only have to spend 50% of my income!
whymsicalburito··on An erroneous paper on religion and generosity is retracted
There were even news sites that published articles about the original article AFTER the retraction was announced! The state of science reporting is very sad.
whymsicalburito··on Apple Watch Series 5
Sleep tracking would be cool, but don't most users charge their watch at night?
whymsicalburito··on Should you buy your stock options when you quit?
Are there tax benefits to exercising early? Hypothetically say I have some options with a pretty cheap exercise price, and I think the company will be taking on PE money in the near future, AND I have faith that the company will successfully exit in the future, will exercising early save me some taxes?
whymsicalburito··on MacBook Pro Keyboard Drives Me Crazy

whymsicalburito··on Neil Young’s Lonely Quest to Save Music From Low Quality Streaming
I don't feel like streaming quality is the biggest issue. Spotify's highest quality rate (for paid users) is pretty good, but the audio compression for streaming to a bluetooth device kills the quality. I've stuck with wired headphones because the quality is so much better than bluetooth.
whymsicalburito··on Rent the Backyard (YC S19) wants to build a studio apartment in your yard
There's actually lots of companies that sell these. Google "kit homes"
whymsicalburito··on TurboTax to charge more lower-income customers
I've been using TaxAct for the last few years and have been happy. Pretty similar product as TurboTax, but I feel their upsells are much less pushy.
whymsicalburito··on Jeremy, I think you'll wan't this job
I thought California passed a law requiring businesses to allow you cancel your subscription in the same method you signed up. Maybe I misunderstand the bill as written.

whymsicalburito··on Jony Ive to form independent design company with Apple as client
The top comment on this thread is asking for the ports back. The majority has spoken.

My workstations have become a dumpster fire of dongles and I constantly have to unplug something to use the ports for something else. The previous model was so much better.
