whoamii··on Bend – A language that blocks AI mistakes via proof, on CPU and GPU
“but we still need an ambiguity-free way to tell the AIs building the world around us what we want done”

Do we? I would argue one of the main reasons AI can be so productive is because it makes assumptions where it finds ambiguity, and we reduce the number of things we need to specify.

whoamii··on Don't Just Say Hello
Good advice. Anyway, hello everyone.
whoamii··on Thanks to Siri Recaps, your Apple Watch is always listening
If the Walkman is recording all the time, then of course they would be a party.

Yes, let’s do something illegal to force a discussion. A discussion that already happened when writing the law…
whoamii··on Wendell Berry has died
As per One Hundred Years of Solitude: progress tends to destroy as much as it creates.
whoamii··on The turbulent AI era is here
“We need a plan to ensure that the good outweighs the bad.”

How apt… for Bill Gates to state this.

whoamii··on Disruption with Some GitHub Services
Keep in mind the seniority of the author. This was not written by a staff+ engineer.

I plan to build a datacenter in Jackson hole with expensive paintings on the walls.
whoamii··on Cultivating a state of mind where new ideas are born (2023)
Perhaps this too explains the frustration one may feel at times working with LLMs to code - the steering/interpretation by the LLM may distract and second-guess our process within our cognitive space.
whoamii··on Lovable raises $400M Series C
Welcome to the stock market.
whoamii··on US hires over 2k video gamers as air traffic controllers
Yeah but do they read hacker news? Are they hackers?! Are hackers controlling our skies now?!
whoamii··on Letter to Governor Abbott on responsible AI infrastructure in Texas
This letter clearly wasn’t written by AI.

whoamii··on Why did we wait so long for the bicycle? (2019)
The more interesting question is, why did it take even longer for the unicycle. Doesn’t have many of the issues bicycles had to solve.
whoamii··on FFmpeg 9.0
Soon there will be a website which translates AI written text to human text… using AI.
whoamii··on A Trampoline
There are many other factors to consider however. Such as time spent with friends, doing something physical, etc. Plus, there’s a spectrum of ways to use trampolines. You’re still allowed to parent…
whoamii··on Premier league bans gambling sponsors
Absolutely not! But I’m happy to predict…
whoamii··on A Trampoline
Would you feel better if their life-changing event came from a car wreck? Tragic things are unfortunately part of life.
whoamii··on A Trampoline
Insurance… lawyers… No wonder most kids these days are glued to screens: liability free!

Went to an “amusement” park the other day (US). Throughput of people going down a waterslide at about 2 kids per minute. Insane. Wavepool? Cleared out every 15 minutes or so. Non-stop whistling by an army of lifeguards. Insane. A kid got whistled at because they had a kid on their shoulder. Okay… At least the cop walking around the park (in uniform) all day was nice and handed out stickers. That’s right, a cop at an amusement park. No wonder these places are dying and being turned into warehouses or what have you.

I ended up finding an insurance plan which explicitly covers trampolines. I now basically pay for the cost of the trampoline each year. Insane.

What a time to be alive as a kid in America.

whoamii··on AWS: Inaccurate Estimated Billing Data – $1.7 billion
Ummm no. Do not show a sign of weakness like this. Address the problem head on and get a credit card with a bigger limit.

whoamii··on I put a datacenter GPU in my gaming PC
The real question: did your local LLM write this post?
whoamii··on Idempotency is easy until the second request is different
You seem to believe idempotency is a fancy word for avoiding duplicates, which is why we seem to be having different conversations.
whoamii··on Idempotency is easy until the second request is different
The topic is about idempotency though, and what you are describing is not idempotency. You are describing something different, and arguing “but it accomplishes a similar thing.” It appears you have come to the same conclusion as the article that building idempotency isn’t trivial.
whoamii··on Idempotency is easy until the second request is different
You are improvising, and in the process, changing the semantics of a well established design pattern. Do not recommend.
whoamii··on Three Inverse Laws of AI
The problem is the credit tends to go to LLMs. So there’s an imbalance. LLM did all the work. The person using it made all the mistakes.
