whh··on OpenAI Feared "Optics" of what might appear on Hacker News
Amplification of commentary and opinion is much easier now. It’s also a lot easier to play into people’s fears.

There’s a wide range of political motivations for this sort of thing too. Not just AI taking jobs, but convincing people to vote against their best interests, or even supporting radical religious groups whose values would persecute you. This sort of rhetoric feels noisier than it ever did decades ago.

Everybody gets a platform now, even the bots.

whh··on I said no and Apple said yes
Not to mention that once you're in this ecosystem, it's usually pretty reliable.

It seems that no other device makers are seeing the value in Apple's many-devices-acting-as-one approach. It makes for some serious vendor lock.

I thoroughly enjoyed Veritasium's video on this.

TIL: B-S-J-Z (China) in the rankings means Beijing, Shanghai, Jiangsu, and Zhejiang.

Instead of testing mainland China as a whole, the OECD allows these four specific provincial-level jurisdictions to represent China in the triennial PISA rankings for 15-year-old students.

Take that $1.2bn. Invest it. When this moronic administration is gone, use it to build more renewable energy infrastructure.
whh··on US citizen charged after GrapheneOS phone wipes during airport search
I feel like the advice given by IT departments for years was to wipe your device ahead of travel, and restore from backup upon arriving. Or, to take a travel device.
whh··on Apple targets dozens of OpenAI employees with legal letters
Starting to feel like I might get a legal letter from my secondary school for not crediting them for what they've taught me.

whh··on CarPlay Is Additive
I can’t be the only one who thinks we’re going a bit too far with the attention grab of vehicle infotainment.

CarPlay is a fantastic system because it keeps you off your phone.

But some of these new infotainment systems, and the complete lack of physical controls, are starting to feel extremely unsafe.
