wferrell··on Show HN: I made a tiny camera with super long battery life
What an excellent post. I love it and learned so much.

Would you be willing to share a ballpark price for what you pay for the enclosure? And maybe ballpark how many you ordered at once? I have found getting enclosures made to be incredibly expensive -- but I have only ever done VERY low volumes (5-10).

wferrell··on Pydantic Logfire
Who do you like who does this well?

I think Pydantic is great software and so I am inclined to see if this too will be great software.

Thanks for detailing this. Learned a lot.
wferrell··on Rabbit R1: Barely Reviewable [video]
Apple does >1B queries per week on siri. Likely greater than 4B assuming minimal growth since 2016. I would bet >10B. I'm not saying it is equivalent to an LLM. It is getting real, serious usage. I have no dog in the fight.

wferrell··on Sam Altman Seeks Trillions of Dollars to Reshape Business of Chips and AI
I guess it depends on what you are defining as a chip and what you are defining as "Google" -- as in if they have contractors design/build to their needs does that count.

1/ https://www.wired.com/2012/03/google-microsoft-network-gear/

2/ I believe they had a few custom chips designed for the youtube workloads that predate the TPU.

I remember in 2010 there was a building in MV that focused on custom chips.

Thank you Fnands. I appreciate it. I will have to go back to SkyFi -- I must have missed this 75cm imagery.
wferrell··on Maxar's Open Satellite Feed
Great post Mark. Long time reader - really enjoy your content.

To any readers - Any thoughts on how I can get satellite imagery of Aniak Alaska at a very low cost? I've looked into the sentinel imagery and it works -- unfortunately difficult to find enough images without high cloud cover. I could work through lots of images to piece together a solution -- but even then, I'd love to get higher resolution. Thank you for any guidance!

I've seen skyfi.com which seems promising but haven't decided to purchase.

What makes the dev experience so good? And why is it better than google's? I ask genuinely. I've seen/used Google's... thought it was good.

wferrell··on Atlassian Acquires Loom
Are you counting employees that joined after the 1.5B valuation?

I am sure they made money but not what was expected (exiting above 1.5B).

How are you determining par for the course liq preference of 1.0? Where does that data come from? I ask genuinely as the small sample of companies I know of personally have liq preferences greater than 1.

wferrell··on WiFi without internet on a Southwest flight
This is an amazing story. Thanks for posting.
wferrell··on Postman acquires Akita for automated API observability
Google has all the money and their phone and phoneOS are still second tier. It's not money. It's about picking a problem and focusing on it. Further, it's about picking the right problem.

Google picked "How do we save (an additional) 20B+ per year in cash payments to a competitor" and "how do we have a path to accessing the world's data ... that is on a phone." -- and then won at both.
